Free Music Review: "Oh, Hear the Angel Voices!!!"
Hit: 5 Stars

What a wonderful breath of fresh air these young men are!!! Do you remember the wonderful Firestone Christmas albums from the 1960s with Julie Andrews and so many other great voices? That kind of vocal quality still exists, and it's waiting for you on this beautiful CD.

There has been some question/objection raised regarding "Ave Maria," "The Lord's Prayer" and "Somewhere Over The Rainbow" being present on this album. Both "Ave Maria" and "Panis Angelicus" are good year around, it is true, but you will find both on Christmas compilations going back to the Firestone albums and even earlier. Also, Barbara Streisand's first Christmas album featured both "Ave Maria" and "The Lord's Prayer." I will admit that "Somewhere Over The Rainbow" puzzled me until I learned that "The Wizard of Oz" is a special Christmas movie in the UK, just as "It's A Wonderful Life" is here. Consequently, "Somewhere Over The Rainbow" is associated with Christmas in Great Britain, where Il Divo is based, and the song was included for that reason. And anyway, it is so beautifully done that you won't care at all. Play it to your children for a lullaby on Christmas Eve.

My personal favorite is "O Come All Ye Faithful." The a cappella passage in the first verse is absolutely gorgeous. But then so is "O Holy Night," "Ave Maria" and the new song, "Rejoice," which talks of finding your lost faith. If all the hype and bad music have left you feeling like Christmas has become an annual retail festival, then repair your soul with this amazing album. "Come and rejoice...what was lost is found."

Ah, Christmas comes but once a year and each year comes the guarentee... someone will release a good Christmas album, a poor Christmas album, and a "what were they thinking" Christmas album. This release just happens to be a cut above the good fare complete with nicely packaged melodies, traditional seasonal favorites, and a couple oddball choices. Even with a Holiday misstep in the form of "Over The Rainbow" the album is pretty near perfect. The song may not be Christmas related, but in a way it does feature the same message Christmas brings with it; love and hope and peace. These four gentlemen know how to sing. And they get right to the good stuff with "O Holy Night" (of course, it being my favorite traditional song ever... I may seem biased) which I feel is their best song on this album abd the second best version I have ever heard. (Celine Dions version is and will always be my #1 choice) They continue the trend with a flimsy start but grand finale finish with "White Christmas" which gets a bilingual treatment. "Ave Maria" is a pretty song and these guys work their magic with it too. Their second best on the album is "O Come All Ye Faithful" which starts out accapella and then goes into an ambient string backdrop. It is quite lovely. This whole album is. But it isn't their voices and the molodies that make this an album to cherish. That point is when they harmonize it is chill inducing and awe inspiring. Their voices go so wonderfully together and it shows that even this album may have been rushed for the holidays... their perfection was not affected and this album truly shines.

Free Music Review: Il Divo Christmas Collection
Hit: 5 Stars

This is an excellent album, and truly shows off their talent in the most remarkable way. I love the song "Ave Maria", and they did and excellent job. I have two other versions by "Barbra Streisand, and 98 degrees", and Il Divo ties with Barbra Streisand. Sorry 98 degrees you don't compare w/Il Divo...

On "Over The Rainbow", I listen to it over, and over especially when Sebastien Izambard comes in on the second verse singing after David Miller sings the first verse. I know my accents :)
and Sebastien always gives me the chills, he has such an awesome voice.

But let me tell you, their bonus track "Isabel" which will be on their new cd coming in January, oh let me tell you. It makes me want to cry sometimes. It is one of the most beautiful songs I have ever heard, even with Carlos hitting some of higher tenor notes. I sit at work, and melt.

Il Divo is truly the greatest talent to ever hit the earth. They come in second after my ultimate favorite "Teena Marie"...

Free Music Review: One of the best Christmas CDs out there!
Hit: 5 Stars

That said, we have over 40 Cbristmas CDs alone and this one, by FAR, is the best. I first heard them, of all things, on a soap opera and just couldn't believe it. When I found out that Simon Cowell had put them together, well, I just had to run out and get this album. Having a number one holiday album is almost impossible but not with this one! They even played selections from this album during the offertory at church! You wouldn't believe their incredible version of O Holy Night. The have children singing with them towards the middle and it is just breathtaking. Golly, it makes you want to stand up and applaud, right in the middle of the thing. Quite frankly, I'm SICK of hearing White Christmas (never, ever thought I'd say that!) but this is just an amazing rendition, it's worth buying the CD for it alone. I can't say enough good things about this CD - just buy it. You WON'T be disappointed. Remember, Simon put this group together - so you KNOW it will be PERFECT music! Highly recommend!

Free Music Review: This is beautiful music
Hit: 5 Stars

Il Divo stands for divine male performer. It is an appropriate name for these four talented pop opera singers. Spainard Carlos Marin has a rich deep baritone voice. American David Miller has such a soothing tenor voice. Their voices blend so well with Switzerland's Urs Buhler and France's Sebastian Izambard. I love the classic American Christmas standards like Silent Night, White Christmas and O Holy Night. Ave Maria is a very moving classic French song. The Lord's Prayer is an unusual track. To hear these famillar words performed in song is a treat. Adeste Fidelis has a similar soothing spiritual quality. Panis Angelicus is a track that shows off the powerful resonant voices of these young men. Every note of this song sounds perfect. The piano playing is lovely on the track A Child is Born. It accompanies the vocals well. Over the Rainbow is not a Christmas song. Nonetheless, it is a classic song with a hopeful peaceful quality to it. This CD is filled with beautiful music.
