Free Music Review: What does 'Original Soundtrack' mean????

I just saw the movie and loved it - worth multiple viewing - and I have actually heard a couple of the songs from this album - on XM - Cat Power's version of Stuck inside of Mobile..which I enjoyed - but how can they call this the Original Soundtrack when a lot of the music in the film is actual Dylan cuts - this is crazy - If you don't see the movie because you don't like the cover versions - you will be greatly surprised that many of the covers are not in the movie - that the original Dylan is there in glorious sound - of course there are other cuts and most are extremely well done - a great movie and possibly a very good bunch of covers but where is the truth in packaging???Free Music Review: No one sings Dylan as good as Dylan

Although this is definitely worth buying, there are a lot of lackluster performances. Dylan puts so much emotion and soul into his singing.
I guess since his voice isn't gorgeous he makes up by dynamics. Dylan also has more interesting rhythms than these singers use. There are some rare songs and even Dylan himself on the last one.
Free Music Review: Dylan without The Dead???

A very good Dylan cover compilation, don't get me wrong...but how can you really have any kind of a Dylan cover compilation without The Grateful Dead??? For that I can only give it a 3 star.
Next time someone does a Bob movie...include The Dead.
Free Music Review: I hope the Film is better than the Soundtrack

I have purchased this soundtrack prior to the film release but as a stand alone product I think it proves once and for all that nobody does Dylan better than Dylan himself.
Unfortunately he aint the worlds greatest performer on film so i accept a movie about him can easily make for better entertainment without him actually being in it, so I do hope the film is better than the soundtrack.
Different music I know but the Beatles covers soundtrack to the movie "I am Sam" was in my view an excellent covers effort. True to the songs, performed with respect and admiration. That soundtrack makes you want to go back and listen to the originals.
With this soundtrack I would bet any punter out there who can strum a few chords on a guitar could match most of the versions on display here in their own bedroom with a dylan songbook on hand. Seriously much of this sounds like some weird Karaoke contest. Sorry to say this but Antony & the Johnsons version of Knocking on Heavens Door creates a mental image of a distressed whale communicating to the rest of the pod somewhere out in the pacific ocean. I just dont see the "art" in it. Antony's song on the Leonard Cohen tribute doco "Im your man" is much better so its not as if i dont like Antony.
I would suggest even Dylans Self Portrait album is better entertainment than this. Both are equally hard to listen to. In fact this soundtrack would have made much more sence if it were called Self Portrait 2. Now that would be "art house".

The music is too theatrically produced to work without a film to go along with it--I am not sure I will ever truly understand why anyone would ever want to listen to a cover of Dylan when the real thing is so different and so far superior, or for that matter why some artists that I greatly enjoy and respect would think that covering a version of Dylan's many masterpieces in their own (sometimes too modern) tone is a good idea. This collection does a disservice to Dylan's music (save BD's version on Disc 2).
