Free Music Review: Thanks for Sharing The Process Immi!!!

For context, I think "I Megaphone" is very creative and good listening, and both "Details," and "Speak For Yourself" are works of art and outrageously great listening. As a result of "Speak For Yourself," I followed Imogen's sharing of the creative process for "Ellipse," viewing each of her 38 video "Blogs," which was an unprecedented, extraordinary experience for this fan. She put herself under enormous pressure by sharing all the intimate details of building a new studio while committing to a new record, immediately following a big (critical, if not commercial) hit like "Speak For Yourself."
As a result of the v-blogs, all the sharing on her website, watching her amazing and courageous solo performances on stage (especially the ones where she builds a song, track by track, layering each one on top of the previous, all in front of a live audience), I fell in love.
So, like my reviews of Christopher Guest movies and Joni Mitchell albums, Imogen automatically gets five stars for the huge contribution she has made to my enjoyment of art in my life. If she gets out of bed in the morning - she gets five stars. Like alot of her fans (read all the other reviews from gaga Immi fans like me...), I feel like this woman could release a CD herself mowing the lawn, reading the paper, or working on a difficult crossword, and I'd buy it. Imogen is a gift from heaven. She is an amazing talent. Don't forget everyone, she writes, arranges, and PRODUCES all of her own music, aka, Brian Wilson! To top it off, she is actively involved in art and promotion. Does she ever sleep?
Ok, now "Ellipse." I think "Ellipse" is very creative and good listening, but it wasn't quite equal to the simultaneously creative and outrageously great sounding "Speak For Yourself." I can't put my finger on it, but while all the tracks sound good, they sound somewhat related to one another in sound, structure, and emotion. For pure listening pleasure, my favorites are "Half Life" (the last track), and "Last Train Home," and for great story and/or lyrics, "Bad Body Double." Also, for fans and first-time Imogen listener's alike, I recommend the two CD-set, because Immi's voice is wonderful, but its a very special treat to be able to listen to her music sans voice, particularly if you are in a "new age" mood, which I am from time to time.
Final BIG THOUGHT for Imogen, her agent, manager and record company: Before she committed to a big CD and all the accompanying pressure, Immi used to accept tiny gigs here and there to produce music for odd projects. This resulted in little masterpieces like "Speeding Cars," "Glittering Clouds," and "Lonely Little Petunia," never released on an "LP" because they weren't brought to life for an "LP." For her next CD, Immi needs to ditch the traditional "ok, now I'm going to write a record," approach, and go back to the "now I'm going to live my life and write odd little pieces of music when I feel like it for unique projects when the project interests me," approach, and her record company needs to scurry around behind her gathering up all the resulting little gems, and release them as a group, every three or four years.
Thats my story and I'm sticking to it. Thanks Imogen for everything you have done for us.
