Free Music Review: Everyone should know about IMOGEN's music!!!
Hit: 5 Stars

Wow!!! I remember when I first heard "Let Go" from Details - the album she made with Guy Sigsworth - I was hooked from the first moment. I bought Details the next day and have been a devout fan ever since. Never in my life has anyone's music affected me so much. Imogen is truly magnificent and brilliant with her infectious melodies, lyric's and sounds. Her music as awakened feelings in me that I have only longed for. Her new solo album is undeniably just as rich and elicit as as Details. From the very first song you find yourself engaged and evoke with so much emotion that you want to explode. I have listened to Headlock repeatedly since purchasing the album. Songs 2,3 and 5 are also totally and utterly amazing. The whole album is truly a work of art that tugs at the soul and gives you goose bumps if you take the time to get to know it. Something about Imogen's music and voice are so raw, ethereal, and magnetic that you cannot help but feel passion oozing from every pour. She also has such a way of making a hard edge seem so soft and appealing, you almost feel like she knows exactly what you are going through. Imogen is truly amazing. Even if you do not particulary like Indiepop or electonica, I believe that you would truly appreciate this album if you gave it a chance. Also, check out Frou Frou's, Details.

Those that think electronic music and emotion are mutually exclusive terms need to listen to this album to dispel that myth.
Imogen Heap's second solo album, following from her Frou Frou collaboration with Guy Sigsworth, is the incredible Speak For Yourself. Written, recorded, produced and financed by Heap herself, it is an intoxicating blend of created sounds, solid songwriting and Heap's voice, one of the most amazing voices in pop music today.
From the glitchy electro-pop opener of Headlock, the sublime acapella track Hide & Seek (as heard on The O.C), to the dramatic tension of Closing In, each of the 12 tracks here has its own unique flavor. Goodnight & Go is already slated as the next single, an infectious slice of cool pop. You will not be able to get these songs out of your head!
The difference between Heap and other elctronic pop acts is that she really cares about the songwriting process, as evidenced on her official website's blog where she details each step of the album's creation from lyrics to chord chages to arrangement to mixing. A lot of heart has been poured into these songs and it can be heard.
Heap is destined to become a big star - she just needs people to start spreading the word about this superb album and her talent.

Free Music Review: Great CD from an amazing artist
Hit: 5 Stars

I am relatively a newbie in terms of being a fan of Imogen Heap's music, but boy, what I was missing! Though "Hide" is by far the standout piece here--and I'll admit was the first Heap piece that came to my attention--Speak For Yourself is a thoroughly enjoyable listen as a whole. From its rockin' introduction ("Headlock") to its fragile close ("The Moment I Said It"), this CD simply rocks. It may not be everyone's favorite style or genre (Imogen is an electronic artist more than anything else), and listeners may be a little surprised by the sound of Speak For Yourself (hey, it's completely its own genre really!), but the music, well, speaks for itself! Her voice is intimate, breathy, sensitive and unique, and the music (which she wrote--and produced--by herself) is always enjoyable; "Goodnight and Go" and the aforementioned "Hide" may be the two most well-known singles from the album, but "Headlock," "Loose Ends," "Clear the Area," "Daylight Robbery," "The Walk," "Just for Now" and "The Moment I Said It" (which is basically the entire CD!) are all contenders for being great examples of brilliant music. Soulful, touching, enjoyable, consistent and, very importantly, completely original: This is what makes Imogen Heap and her second album truly amazing.

Free Music Review: Dreamy, Catchy Synth Pop
Hit: 5 Stars

I downloaded this CD off of iTunes because of the whole Sony DRM rootkit thing. I will not buy any CD from Sony because of it.
This is Imogen Heap's first release since Frou Frou's Details in 2000, where she worked with her producer, husband Guy Sigsworth. That album was excellent and this a great follow up. When I heard she was coming out with another solo album, I was ecstatic because iMegaphone and Details were so good.

This album, like my title suggests, is dreamy, melodic, and catchy synth-pop. It's not a huge departure from Details, but in superb in its own right. "Headlock" and "Goodnight and Go" start the album down the right track of ethereal, electronic vibes. "Speak for Yourself" is the perfect soundtrack for an afternoon of daydreaming. The whole thing is almost cathartic. It's savory, sassy, and brilliant. Imogen's whispery vocals sound angelic against the electronically inspired music.

I think it is worth a listen. If you enjoyed "Details", you will most likely really enjoy this album as well. I think it deserves the full five stars. For those not as familiar with her work, she sounds a bit like Kate Bush, or perhaps Sarah McLachlan but with electronic sounds. I hope you enjoy this album as much as I have.

Free Music Review: Imogen hits the trifecta
Hit: 5 Stars

Music. Lyrics. Production.

All good pop albums do at least one of these really well. Great pop albums have been known to squeak by with two. Desert-island pop albums pretty much need all three to be firing on all cylinders. I would argue that this is one of the latter.

We are told that Ms. Heap built this album all but single-handedly in her home studio. If that's truly the case, then...not to get all hyperbolic, but she's well on her way to genius status. After the striking but occasionally derivative "I Megaphone" and Frou Frou's portentous but uneven "Details" (a one-album project with equal partner Guy Sigsworth), she has come up with something that transcends the "trip-hop" label which is most often used to describe it. This album is relentless in its quirky, hyper-melodic catchiness, its fun with words, and, wow, that synth work.

It's a joyous ride, and no longer a copy-protected one. Sony dropped that idiotic tactic on this title over a year ago, in response to consumer complaints. Amazon may never acknowledge this fact in their product title, despite the efforts of several listeners who have contacted them about it. (I respect Amazon's consumer advocacy, if not their intransigence in light of new facts.)
