Free Music Notes for Speak for YourselfFree Music Review: Not Biting...... Hit: 5 Stars
I recently heard "Hide and Seek" on television, and said to my partner, "She's sold an album with this song!" After researching the copy protection on this cd, sadly, she has not.
This is an excellent cd, and that makes turning it down even more painful. Those who have written here saying that Sony reissued this cd without copy-protection are INCORRECT. Those reissues had to do with the XCP rootkit, and not the MediaMax software that this cd does contain. That software does allow for limited copying, so those who have said that they successfully copied have reason to say that. Research mediamax and sunncomm and ask yourself whether you want that on your computer. I researched both it and the cd and decided that I am not biting.
In truth, I'm torn. I think, "I could just buy it to play on my dvd player." Problem is, then I would be supporting a business trend that I have a big problem with. Too bad Imogen, you lost a paying customer..... Do understand though, that it's not the artist's fault, as they are usually told that they have no say in the matter.
Free Music Review: A voice of an Angel Hit: 5 Stars
Imogen Heap is truly one of the most unique, individual and creative musicians of our time.
I was hesitant to buy this cd at first because I had read that it takes a bit of a different path than the Frou Frou "Details" cd, and I was worried about being dissapointed. But I must say, if you loved Imogen Heap in Frou Frou, then purchase this cd, because it appears she cannot go wrong in her music. She never dissapoints, and you will quickly be drawn into the melody and genius writing of these new songs by one of the best solo artists out there.
I started to list out the best tracks here, when really, I can't... they're all so wonderful in so many ways.
But the best one in my opinion? Track #5 - "Hide and Seek," which you will hear on the new Zach Braff movie soundtrack. It's also currently his myspace profile song, which is where I first heard it. Not only are the lyrics beautiful, but you can completely feel the emotion in Imogen's voice, and at times, it makes my eyes tear up from the beauty of it.
Free Music Review: NOT BUYING DOMESTIC VERSION DUE TO SECURITY VULNERABILITY Hit: 5 Stars
Too bad Sony decided to load their garbage copy protection scheme on this disc, otherwise I would have bought it from Amazon.com. Fortunately Amazon.co.uk has it for 9.99 quid, and it's released on the Megaphonic Records label, so no copy protection.
That bit of business aside, this is one of the most unique albums I've heard in ages. For whatever reason, Frou Frou hasn't seen much rotation in my car or on the headphones at work, but I definitely like that album... very soulful and beautiful, all thanks to Imogen's lovely voice. The arrangements here are maybe a bit "funkier" than what you'll find on Frou Frou's "Details" album, and even rocking (on Daylight Robbery), but the vocals shine through and through, and never get drowned out by the beats... they both go hand in hand, making for a delightfully fresh and original musical experience!
Oh yeah, and once again, SHAME ON YOU SONY! I guess you really don't want to sell CDs to me anymore. Ok, no problem... plenty of choices these days... :)
Free Music Review: great but beware Hit: 5 Stars
This is an amazing CD - I bought it 2 weeks ago and it hasn't left my cd player. But that's the problem - it can't leave my CD player, ie- it's non transferrable to my ipod. BUYER BEWARE!
This is for people with PC's who use iPod/iTunes...
You're pretty much screwed as the software won't seem to recognize iTunes and directly converts files to Windows media. When you try to transfer to iTunes format it, of course, scrambles the track. If you try to burn a copy, the burned copy is also protected. God forbid they have some sort of customer support number to call on the CD. It almost seems vindictive.
It's a shame because this is an amazing CD.
Since Imogen is such a supporter of Apple, it's surprising they would look over this glitch. If I want to listen to the album on my iPod I have to buy it through iTunes, another $9.99. Maybe that was the plan. Of course, I'm gonna buy it on iTunes as well...it's that worth it. I wouldn't do this for any other artist!
Free Music Review: Superbly Polished and Produced Effort from trip-hop songstress. Hit: 5 Stars
Imogen Heap first came to my attention via Details, the debut album from the now defunct outfit Frou Frou. I adored that album, but not as much as I love this album.
Solo, Imogen is a more potent and poignant formula. Speak for Yourself is full of swirling electronica, basically everything that made Frou Frou so great. But the difference here is it is more convincing.
Her solo material is great drawing on many different influences, like the Laurie Anderson inspired "Hide & Seek" and the Bjork romp "Headlock".
Her smokey English vocals are downright sexy snd her ability in songwriting is wholly admirable.
In my opinion Imogen was the unfair loser at the last GRAMMY's, she should've taken out the Best New Artist gong over that dreadful Carrie Underwood.
