Free Music Review: In the Heights is an excellent cast recording

"In The Heights" is an entertaining show about the residents of Washington Heights and the dreams they have. Lin Manuel Miranda is so good in his role as Usnavi. I like his rapping on the title track. My other favorite track is "96,000". This is a fun song as the cast sings about what they each do if they each had $96,000 dollars. Karen Olivo has a beautiful voice. I love her tune "It Won't Be Long Now". It is so pretty and hopeful. She is perfectly cast as a salon hair stylist Vanessa. "When The Sun Goes Down" is such a romantic song. Mandy Gonzalez and Christopher Jackson sound so good together singing this tune. Olga Merediz gives this track a latino flavor. I love the tune "Patience and Faith". I love this cast recording. This is a great show.Free Music Review: Non-traditional, but high quality

I understand where other reviewers are coming from with their dislike of rap finding its way to the broadway stage. That is actually what made me enjoy this show so much, however. Although I personally do not care for that music style, my friend that came with me for the first time LOVED a musical. His comment after the show was "they used phrases that I use in a musical format that I actually enjoyed." At the same time, this show had powerful more traditional type ballads full of sentiment and emotion. For me, it was a show that both of us could enjoy for different reasons. That is what broadway is all about in my opinion, opening up stories to a wider audience. Perhaps it is a bit different from previous musicals, but that is the beauty of its success.Free Music Review: Can't wait to see the musical!

I heard about this award-winning musical after the Tonys and was intrigued about a show about Washington Heights. It is a lively album with original music sung by the cast and the show's writer. A delightful blend of hip hop and latin beats sung by a very talented cast of musicians. I was skeptical at first, but now realize its Tony was well-deserved. It can bring new fans to Broadway and give the stodgy older musical fans a new perspective about "high" culture. The Dominican community in NYC never sounded so wonderful. This is a ground-breaking musical... its success may well be compared to "West Side Story" in a few years. Definitely the most original musical idea I have heard about it in many years. I had the pleasure of seeing IN THE HEIGHTS twice during its Off-Broadway run at 37 Arts in 2007. Now, the show is on Broadway, and the beautiful, heart-warming score is preserved for the ages on this glorious cast recording. Lin-Manuel Miranda - both the lyricist/composer and star of the show - is a musical genius, both onstage and off. He has created something unique, a show that uses musical styles seldom heard on Broadway. Latin rhythms combine with more traditional "show tune" music in a perfect blend. And the cast is absolutely wonderful, especially Mandy Gonzalez, Christopher Jackson, Andrea Burns, Robin de Jesus, Karen Olivo, and Olga Meridez. If you love Broadway and crave something new and entertaining, this show is for you!Free Music Review: PURE LATINO BLOOD ALL OVER!

BRAVO! This is an absolutely MARVELLOUS musical, specially for Latins. It's an impeccably recorded double album with detailed synopsis, color photographs from the show and the lyrics. Latins and Latin culture has occasionally been present in some Broadway pieces (WEST SIDE STORY, TWO GENTLEMEN OF VERONA); however, this musical breaks all the records since it's pure Latin blood from A to Z. Highlights? PIRAGUA, PACIENCIA Y FE and CARNAVAL DEL BARRIO will become classics. For its originality and contagious rhythms, this show deserves to run for years. Thank you, Lin-Manuel Miranda, for giving such a wonderful Latin touch to the heart of Broadway.
