Lin-Manuel Miranda is not only both a friendly & powerful storyteller, but he knows how to write music and lyrics that are contemporary & urban and relevant & powerful. He instantly invites us in to the rich, lush spirit of the community which is perfectly captured here with its sexy hip-hop and Latin influences. In addition to Lin-Manuel, standout performances include Robin De Jesus, Mandy Gonzalez, Karen Olivio, Carlos Gomez, and (of course) Olga Merediz as the neighborhood's Matriarch. The arc of the stories are clear and the overall arc is
deep and moving.

This is one of the best musical soundtracks I've listened to. The story unfolds through the songs. I know I'll probably not get the opportunity to see it on stage so it's wonderful to understand the story without having to see it. The joy that this playwriter feels comes through in every song and the performers translate it perfectly. I had my doubts about the rap but the Latin beats underneath make it accessible. Additionally, there is no mumbling, the actors annunciate every word. I hope you like this musical as much as I do!Free Music Review: In the Heights of my musical theatre favourites..

I haven't seen this musical until today, but my sister recommend me this CD, I bought it and I never thought it could become one of my favourite soundtracks of a musical. The music is amazing, Lin Miranda has a tremendous talent composing every single letter of this play.
The latin influence in the music make it different, happy, fresh and enjoyable. 96,000 is one of my favourite songs as well as Blackout, but I think the best song is Sunrise!!!
You won't regret buying this CD. Highly recommended!!!

I saw this musical for the first time at the Durham Performing Arts Center back in February. The music was absolutely phenomenal so I decided to order the 2-disc package once I got home. I knew Amazon would have it for a good price so I searched and ordered it. I received the cd's within a week and a half of purchasing it. I absolutely love this music and would recommend this to anyone who would like to listen to a new kind of musical. This is a very well done recording (2-CD) of a great new Broadway score. I loved the show on Broadway, and Lin-Manuel Miranda is a dynamo -- and it is well captured on this recording.
The music is so catchy, you will find yourself playing this over and over -- and it stays with you long afterward when you find yourself humming the music during the day.
Certainly try to see the show if you can -- and get the album, which captures it well. One of my favorite cast recordings in many years.
