Free Music Notes for Fungus AmongusFree Music Review: A generally fun CD Hit: 5 StarsThis CD is truly a feat if you really stop and think about it. the band was 16 and already playing like this with an absolutely unique style. The musicianship is just astounding (and anyone who says otherwise, I defy you to sit down with a guitar or bass and play like that, I freakin dare you) and the vocals are funny, uplifting, and even kind of heavy in certain places. I think this and S.C.I.E.N.C.E are probably their best releases. A cool mix of punk, ska, funk, and a little metal.
Free Music Review: Nice way to start a career Hit: 5 StarsThis release is merely a "best of" of their old stuff before being signed. I hated this the first time I heard it because I was used to Make Yourself and S.C.I.E.N.C.E. That's how different this is from anything else they've done. The bass is much more prominent than on any other of their releases, the guitar work is experimental as always and Brandon's vocals are pretty chaotic. At one point he's kind of brooding then another he's singing jazzy tunes or in neither one of those, he's screaming his heart out. Of course, you'll get the idea of how strange this is just by looking at the cover.
The songs are pretty varied, although every song is heavy. The lyrics are very interesting, funny even in some cases. Such is the case in Psychopsilocybin. This song is very weird and took major getting used to. But now whenever I'm in the mood for a good laugh, I just spin this song.
A few of the best songs are Take Me To Your Leader, Speak Free, Sink Beneath The Line, and Hilikus. I found this CD hard to get into for a while, but hopefully you won't. I would reccommend this disc to any Incubus fan and someone who appreciates music that isn't quite ordinary.
Free Music Review: my favorite incubus cd Hit: 5 Starsthis album kicks ass. to tell u the truth, this and "SCIENCE" are the only incubus albums i like (the later ones r too poppy for me). anyway, if i had to describe the sound of this album, it would be like old school chili peppers (pre-Blood Sugar Sex Magik), but alot heavier. These guys recorded this when they were only 16, which is amazing, let alone the fact that the music is incredible. Very cool funk-metal songs with rapping, singing, everything. The guitar, bass, and drums are phenomenol, i wish music was more like this today. The bass is so damn funky and the slapping and popping is reminicent of the chili peppers' flea. The guitar is very melodic, especially the solos in "Psychosilocybin" and "Sink Beneath The Line", i can really hear the Santana influence. The drums are very funky and jazzy. These guys are very talented and i urge u to go get this album if u like bands like the chili peppers, fishbone, 311, faith no more, p-funk, sublime, living colour, rage against the machine, and other great hybrid bands. It's too bad that they went soft after "SCIENCE" (which is by the way another great album), cause we need more music like this. fun, happy, funky, get this album.
Free Music Review: good for diehard incubus fans, but not for everyone. Hit: 5 Starsthis is a good album but it realy isnt like anything else incubus have done, its a lot more funky, i can see how people are sayin bout the red hot chilli pepper and faith no more resemblences. S.C.I.E.N.C.E is a lot more harder, and i think its the best incubus album.
for the die hard incubus fan this will be a good addition to your collection, it was for mine. if you love incubus then this is a must have but if your new to them then id suggest starting with S.C.I.E.N.C.E or make yourself, both brilliant albums, then get this one.
Free Music Review: A must have for fans of metal and funk Hit: 5 StarsI must say, I love this album, and it is my second favorite Incubus album, nipping at SCIENCE's heels, because it is so so funky. The members of the band at this time are between the ages of 16 and 18 years old and produce an album of metal funk. Although it comes off as a joke album, this seems to me to be the leaping point for Incubus, the first big step as they took as a band, and what an endeavor, introducing me to a whole new genre of music, not necessarily pioneered by the band, but certainly taken in a new direction. A must have, for anyone.
