Free Music Notes for Indiana Jones: The Soundtracks CollectionFree Music Review: This is it...this is where Forrestal cashed in. Hit: 5 Stars
I've been yearning for a serious collection of the "Indiana Jones" scores since 1993, when they put out that first "Star Wars" CD box-set. I was thrilled by the DCC release of "Raiders" a few years later, but always had to make do with my cassette-tape version of "Temple of Doom" and a CD of "Last Crusade" that didn't bother to include the entirety of "Indy's Very First Adventure." (Um, wasn't his very first adventure being born?)
Now, thanks to Concord, I have a handsomely packaged, beautifully remastered set of all THREE "Indiana Jones" movies. (Yes, I know that "Crystal Skull" is in there, too...but I don't consider that a real movie.)
Almost all of my favorite musical moments from the series are finally available, though astute fans have pointed out that there are several omissions. For the most part, I can live with these missing pieces.
But what about the awesome book-burning song by the Nazi pep band? That's sort of the "Lapti Nek" of the Indiana Jones movies. I always walk around whistling that tune after watching "Last Crusade."
Free Music Review: As the ultimate Indy fan, it's complete enough for me Hit: 5 Stars
This review is being written by a guy who has two Herbert Johnson fedoras and one made by Penman Hats; a leather jacket designed by the people who designed Harrison Ford's jackets in the movies, and even the Mark VII gas mask bag carried by Indiana Jones in his search for fortune and glory. I dress up in the whole outfit -- clothes, pistol, hat, jacket, whip, and bag -- every Halloween (or whenever the mood strikes me). That being said, I can't agree with the people who claim that this set is "incomplete."
Randomly running through pieces found in the discs brought me back immediately to treasured scenes from the movies. John Williams is second to none in his movie scores, and this set, if you are a true fan of Indiana Jones, is a must-have in your music library. Unless you are truly bothered by (paraphrasing the critics) "33 seconds lost on this selection," or "51 seconds not recorded in this selection," etc., you will only find thrills to be relived by the music on these discs. I recommend this set unconditionally.
Free Music Review: I love it! Hit: 5 Stars
John Williams is an impressive individual, make no mistake. What a work of art all four of these soundtracks present. After comparing audio quality between what was previously available and this new release - clarity and brilliance are much better, overall (not including the latest release, of course). Listening to much more of the material never before available is a pleasure - it's literally something I've been waiting for since Raiders was released on CD (the additional material presented here is simply very nice to listen to). Packaging is quite nice and is not a disappointment. A great release and a sincerely impressive set that fans of John Williams (and fans especially of the Indiana series) will fall in love with. I certainly did! This is clearly the best available Indiana Jones soundtrack material, and complete or not it's a still pleasure to own and listen closely to.
Free Music Review: Great Collection!!! Hit: 5 Stars
I've read some reviews that this is actually not the complete score and that there are pitch problems and some edited cues, but for a person that doesn't have any of the previous soundtracks(like me), this set is perfect.
The CDs came in digipaks, and all them are in a beautiful brown box that if feels like leather(but I don't think is leather), with the logo(the hat and the whip) of Indiana Jones in Gold, very beautiful box, I would've prefer normal CD cases but then the box would've been very bulky.
I'm sure this set if far from perfect, it has its flaws(read the reviews from other Amazon customers) but like I said at the beginning, if you don't have any soundtrack yet, this is a wonderful opportunity, an even if you do have the previous soundtracks I'm sure you will enjoy it too.
Free Music Review: Indiana Jones! Hit: 5 Stars
Finally a more complete set of the scores to all of the Indiana Jones movies is available. I have always enjoyed listening to much of John Williams' work for the movies, and these scores are among his most enjoyable - right next to Star Wars and Superman.
What makes this set worth the cost is the nearly complete release for The Temple of Doom and the Last Crusade. There is another release for Raiders that had captured much of the music not contained on the original vinyl release back in '81, but the original vinyl release of the Temple of Doom in '84 left much of the music out. Ditto for the CD release of The Last Crusade in '89.
Now if only we could get such a release for the Star Wars prequel trilogy ...
