Free Music Notes for Instant Karma: The Amnesty International Campaign to Save DarfurFree Music Review: My BEST CD buy in a long, long time Hit: 5 Stars
I'm too young for John Lennon. I wasn't born in that era, I admit it - but one of the best things about Lennon is his timeless, and that is what makes Instant Karma so relevant. The subject matter is REAL, and the artists performing are talented, modern representatives of today's musical world. It's appealing to people who aren't of the Lennon time, and that's wonderful - especially when his songs are made accessible in the name of such an important struggle. Darfur is a conflict that must be realized everywhere, by every age group, and with the help of Amnesty International, Instant Karma helps to do just that. Christina Aguilera is surprisingly wonderful with Mother, Aerosmith and Sierra Leone's Refugee All Stars are fun and upbeat with Give Peace a Chance, Jack Johnson is his usual calming, thoughtful self with his version of Imagine. Ben Harper does a wonderful, sweet Beautiful Boy, and Regina Specktor is one of new favorites thanks to her sweet, well-delivered Real Love. This album, in short, is top notch - if you buy any CD right now, this one should be it.
Free Music Review: Good Cause - Great CD...But please boycott Amazon..... Hit: 5 Stars
By far the best song is Jack Johnson's Imagine. His voice is incredible and the guitar is magical.
I'm boycotting Amazon because I just learned (after purchasing this CD) that they're the only online bookseller left that is selling dog fighting and cockfighting magazines and videos. These magazines advertise the sale of fighting animals and cockfighting weapons -- sales made illegal by federal law.
I understand freedom of speech, but although I find those products "objectionable" (Amazon's word) and disgusting (my word), the issue is that the First Amendment doesn't protect companies advertising illegal contraband, and that's exactly what the magazines sold by Amazon are doing. I urge you to contact Amazon and ask them to stop selling these products. Thank you.
Free Music Review: awesome CD Hit: 5 Stars
Amnesty did an amazing job with this CD. Both in the selection of artists with the particular Lennon covers they were to do, and in the way they made sure anyone who purchased this CD would be well aware of its benefits to stop the genocide in Darfur.
Though Amnesty never uses the term "genocide", be very certain that the humanitarian crisis in Darfur is nothing but a genocide. It will take more initiatives of this scale to see any progress.
Some of the artists that did an exceptional job were Ben Harper, The Postal Service, Jack's Mannequin (surprisingly, I didnt think the frontrunner of Something Corporate could actually put out respectable music), and Regina Spektor.
Well worth the money, well suited for the cause.

Free Music Review: Something for everyone... Hit: 5 Stars
Bought 2 of these as Father's Day gifts (for my dad,56 and my hubby,34) - I haven't personally listened to the entire CD, but my hubby played it at full blast in the garage twice in a row! I especially liked the versions of 'Imagine' by Avril L. & Jack J. - thought I would like the U2 songs more, but they are not my faves. Only one I heard that I did not like was Big & Rich b/c I'm not a country fan. But unlike a previous post that said there was too much 'fluff' and not enough 'solid artists', I think that there is something for everyone on this compilation. It would be boring if it were all one type of musicians. I'm surprised that this tribute has not been done before (maybe it has?) but I am more than happy to support the cause of aid to Darfur...
Free Music Review: A Must Have Hit: 5 Stars
Even if you hate John Lennon music (gasp!!), this is a CD that everyone on earth should purchase. Give it away if you don't like it. The proceeds go to the Amnesty International Campaign to Save Darfur, so it's a win-win situation. All the songs are favorite Lennon classics, and hearing them performed by today's artists is a joy. I'm not a music expert, but I've always been a Beatles fan, particularly Lennon and Harrison, and I can easily recommend this CD for the beauty of the music as well as for the human cause it stands for.
I hope everyone who reads this will buy the CD, and rather than make copies for friends and relatives, ask them to buy it, too.
