Free Music Notes for Interview With The Vampire: Original Motion Picture SoundtrackFree Music Review: A dark, haunting, beautiful score! Hit: 5 Stars
I had never really heard of Elliot Goldenthal before I came across this soundtrack. I actually saw the movie first, years after it was released in theaters. When I first saw it, the music in the opening titles caught my attention. It's one of the best choral pieces of music I've heard in a horror movie in my entire life. That literally made me want to buy the CD right then and there. It also made me a little mad that I hadn't seen the movie sooner and known what great music my soundtrack collection was lacking. The second track on the CD is a wonderfully strong track as well. It's a dark, lush, forboding theme that is very eerie but beautiful. You get the sense of walking through thick fog on a dark cobblestone street at night. It's a wonderful theme that I believe should have appeared more throughout the entire soundtrack. However, Goldenthal has a few other themes he works with, including a loud squeeling theme dominated by brass. It's really much better sounding than I can explain it. 'The scent of death' is a very quiet, but creepy track dominated by low notes on the woodwinds. If you've seen the movie, much of this soundtrack will remind you of specific parts of the movie, conjuring up certain images with certain cues. Many people say that this CD was ruined by the last track, the Guns 'n Roses song, but I think it all just boils down to personal taste. I myself don't particularly like the band, so I just turn off the CD when it get to that track. It's really just one little drawback to an otherwise great CD!
Free Music Review: Nearly perfect movie score!!! Hit: 5 Stars
I've been a fan of Anne Rice's Vampire Chronicle novels and the movie "Interview With The Vampire" for a long time, and just recently picked up the movie soundtrack in like new condition for $2 from an Amazon seller, and it was certainly a good purchase! Of course I've seen the movie before so I knew what the movie score sounded like, but listening to the music without the movie certainly is not a let down.
This album is dark, brooding, with alot of feeling, and is great music for a vampire movie. Maybe not quite on the same level as the Lord of the Rings movie scores for example, but does it have to be?
My only regret with this cd is that it does not contain any of the piano tunes that Lestat and Claudia play throughout the movie (which I LOVED), but the soundtrack is still very good regardless, and all of the other music from the movie that I can remember is on this cd. Some people have complained about the GNR Sympathy for the Devil song that is on the soundtrack. While it's true that it hardly goes with the rest of the movie score, it is still a part of the movie, so it's cool that it's represented here. Don't like Sympathy for the Devil? Don't listen to it - there are still 18 other very worthy tracks on this soundtrack. SFTD is the last track, so you can listen to the first 18 and then stop if you wish. I happen to like SFTD well enough anyway, so no problem for me at all.
All in all - very well done release of a terrific movie score!
Free Music Review: A Special Edition!!!!!!! Hit: 5 Stars
i looove this score. its my favorite cd! but there is not enough! there desperately needs to be a special edition or something like the those of the star wars with practically all of the music from the film on the cd and with the piano songs heard in the film as well as the tracks placed in chronological film order. the guns and roses song doesn't bother me but i think i can be taken out if there is to be a second release of the cd. also digitally remastering the score wouldn't be as bad. i think its a fantabulous concept for goldenthal to do. this score resulted in his fisrt academy award nomination and golden globe nomination. pay homage to this wonderful score elliot. i love the music but there needs to be more of it. edspecially the main theme we hear in the first half of the movie. some people complain about the chopiness due to missing ques and misplacement of tracks. i think people who don't really appreciate the score as it is now will get the full interview with the vampire experience if a special edition with waay more music inserted, tracks in order, and digital remastering were to happen. it would be a blessing to this score!
Free Music Review: BEAUTIFUL & BREATH-TAKING Hit: 5 Stars
Unlike some of the reviews which fail to mention the soundtrack, mine discusses the cd. It is truly wonderful... it is all the more exquisite if you have seen the film, and even more so if you are familiar with the novel and the characters. Thus, when you hear the songs, you are reminded of the scenes in which they were placed. The opening song, sung by the American Boy Choir, is enchanting and perfect for the film. But the song which holds a dear place in my heart most of all, number four, is "Madeleine's Lament" the song used for the moving scene between Louie and Claudia concerning Madeleine, and whether to make her a vampire to care for Claudia if Louie cannot... this scene is my favourite part in the film, and never ceased to provoke tears. The same is with this song...Overall, the songs are wonderful and this album is worth purchase... I have almost mercifully forgotton the Guns 'N Roses song, since it is unworthy of hearing. I suppose they just threw it in to give the film some 'hip' ending or something- I prefer not to think about it. But this cd is wonderful, and perfect for either film or novel fans, or both.
Free Music Review: Enchanting, Beautiful, Chilling, Haunting like the movie Hit: 5 Stars
This is definitely one of the most underrated soundtracks of ALL TIME. Granted, it was nominated for Best Score, but it lost to "The Lion King" which makes sense. I have never listened to a more hypnotizing score than this one. From the very start, we are drawn in to Libera Me, which could sum up the emotions of the entire movie, particularly from Louis's perspective. This contains all the essential moments of the soundtrack, but not all of it. I do wish they had included some more of Lestat's piano pieces, but other than that it's perfect. I love how the music fits the characters like a glove. Libera Me for Louis, Lestat's Recitative for Lestat, Claudia's Allegro, and so on. I know people believe that the Guns and Roses song ruins it (which by the way was originally written and performed by The Rolling Stones, get your facts straight), but it IS Lestat. The title of the song alone should speak for itself, Sympathy for the Devil. All in all perfection, just like the movie.
