Free Music Notes for Interview With The Vampire: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack

Free Music Review: Lovely
Hit: 4 Stars

This soundtrack brings to mind the Palace of Versailles in France and masked balls in the court of the Sun King, Louis XIV. There is a gothic romantic feel to this score that is both relaxing and stirring. Lots of cello and bass string music that goes with the spooky atmosphere of a vampire movie. My only gripe is that the Song for Louie and Claudia should have been longer than what we are given.

Free Music Review: Haunting Excellence
Hit: 4 Stars

This score... inappropriately called a soundtrack is wonderful. It captures the ambiance and quiet evil of the film and the character of Lestat was well as Louis' struggle to undo what he has become. Haunting is a word I would choose to describe this work best, because that is exactly what it is. Try turning out the lights and listening to this CD, and you will know what I mean.

Free Music Review: slow, brooding, and atmospheric music
Hit: 3 Stars

The music here is extremely atmospheric, and has its moments, but as a whole, it just lacks melody in the same way that the "Sleepy Hollow" sountrack does. It works great with the imagery of the film, but once you separate it from the film, the music has to stand on its own as a CD. Goldenthal is certainly not lacking in talent, he has plenty of it, but clearly his aim here was to create atmosphere for the scenes in the film, not to write a concerto. But there are many interesting momentary sparks that show you there was great potential here and make you wish for less atmosphere and more harmony. Still, I recommend this to gothic music lovers, and those who like the film.

Free Music Review: Midnight Music...missing something.
Hit: 3 Stars

I loved the movie and loved the soundtrack. The Anne Rice fan in me was happily pleased at the movie (but it doesn't compare to the depth of the book), and the movie lover in me was intrigued by the cinematography. When I bought the soundrack I was pleased but the music lover in me was let down just a bit. I was distrubed that some of the beautiful piano music sampled by movie was not included in the soundtrack (e.g. The rotting Lestat's piece). I was also thrown off by some of the uneven transitions between tracks.

A good soundtrack, but I have heard better.
