Free Music Review: Into the Woods (remastered)
Hit: 5 Stars

I first seen this musical on a local television station that was doing a pledge drive. I instantly fell in love with it. I think for one reason was cause i love fairy tales. and combining all our favorite fairy tales into one story was a awesome idea. I wrote the station asking them once a month when they were goign to re-air the program. they told me they might re-air it one day when it fit into their schedual. I can see/hear why Joanna Gleason won a Tony for her performance and it was amazing. I love all the songs on this CD but my favorites are as followed:

I Guess this is Goodbye/Maybe They're magic
I Know Things Now
It Takes Two
Stay with Me
On the Steps of the Palace
Lament
Any Moment/Moments in the Woods*
Your Fault/Last Midnight*
No one is Alone
Children will Listen
(* means Favorite)

I love all these songs for diffrent reason.

the Bonus tracks are very kewl. I love Kim Crosby's (the Original and only Cinderella for me) vocals on Back to the Palace. It is like she never left the character and the emotion is there. Boom crunch is my favorite of the bous tracks cause it is something i have always wanted to hear since i found out it was cut from the show.

Free Music Review: Get Into Into the Woods

This CD was my trial for the greatcomposer Stephen Sondheim. I had wanted to know his style before I went to see his movie, Sweeny Todd, (Starring Johnny Depp and Directed By Tim Burton). I had heard that this was a great buy. I gritted my teath and bought it. I knew that people said he had a different style, but I had no idea was lying instore.

AMAZING! It was absolutely stunning! I loved the CD. It was beautiful. My Mom has not developed a liking to it, and it is very sharped and flatted (Like on a piano)But beautiful. I compare it to the wonderful musical Dreamgirls, because you love it or hate it. Just as in the way that HEnry reiger used the voices to sing and not so much music; Stephen does the same thing. Like in GIANTS IN THE SKY the actopr sings one note and the piano plays a flatted or sharped version. Ity is wonderful. The Best songs are:
PROLOGUE INTO THE WOODS
EVER AFTER
HELLO LITTLE GIRL
I KNOW THING NOW
GIANTS IN THE SKY
ACT 2 PROLOGUE
YOUR FAULT
FINALE PEOPLE WILL LISTEN
BONUS TRACKS!
GIANTS IN THE SKY

BUY THIS CD! WONDERFUL AND AMAZING!!!! BEtter than the LION KING

Free Music Review: This is the recording to buy. Insightful, Human and Loads of Fun
Hit: 5 Stars

The great thing about Stephen Sondheim is this: the more you listen to and explore his scores, the more impressed you are by his genius.

Nowhere is that genius more apparent than in this musical. Sondheim and James Lapine stir together a stage full of fairy tale characters, give them each a burning, insatiable wish, and formulate happy endings for most.

Then the fun begins. At the start of Act 2, the audience learns what messes are left when one must have one's wish at any cost. Happily ever after melts into battles and infidelities and untimely deaths and heartbreaks.

Sondheim and Lapine explore the human condition with wisdom and insight. Listen to "Your Fault," where characters shoot and are shot at with finger pointing accusations and deflections. How like real life.

This recording is the one to buy, where the performances of Bernadette Peters and the marvelous Chip Zien lift the words and situations straight to our hearts.

Free Music Review: an extremely clever musical that deserves to be more well known
Hit: 5 Stars

Most people my age have never heard of this truly wonderful composition. This opened at the Martin Beck Theatre in November of 1987 and was a success lasting for 2 years. It interlocks 5 different fairy tales : 4 well-known(Cinderella, Red Riding-Hood , Rapunzel, and Jack and the Beanstalk) and 1 original tale (a baker and his wife) The musical is a really sunny tale in the 1st act but in the 2nd act, many characters are trampled by a giant who was the wife of the one in Jack and the Beanstalk. However, this is still a highly reccomendable CD with exquisite music and I think you will like it.

(P.S. The Broadway Revival Cast and the London Cast are both dreadful, so if you have a choice, take this one)

Free Music Review: Excellent!

My 7 year-old and I absolutely LOVE this production. She had already been exposed to all the fairy tales touched on in the play, and because of the excellent story-telling, has begun to seek out other retold fairy tales in literature. And she has printed out the lyrics to many of the songs and sings them almost constantly throughout the day.
