Free Music Notes for Edward the GreatFree Music Review: Could be missing a few older tracks? Hit: 5 Stars
Some of the older so-called "classics" may be missing, but those tracks are not that great anyway. The newer stuff is better and therefore included on this true best of. Now to comment on Iron Maiden. I prefer my metal a bit more refined and melodic that of the later Rainbow and MSG stuff, but I must give them some credit. They do have some pretty good songs and certainly some great guitar playing. I didn't realize how good some of their stuff became in the last ten years. The later stuff is better than the early stuff. Better songwriting and production all around. Some of Iron Maiden's work is useless and unprofitable mention of Satanism, like the song "Number of the Beast", in particular. However, the song "Holy Smoke" is certainly a valid philosophical commentary on phony Pentecostal "name it-and-claim it" preachers who are teaching a false gospel for money. The band is clear on this and even gives some reverence to the Lord Jesus, as well. Not to mention the song has some clever lyrics and you have to appreciate the statement: "Holy smoke!! Plenty of bad preachers for the Devil to stoke"! Anyone who didn't think this track should have made the best of collection is wrong, in my opinion.
Free Music Review: I Love It! Hit: 5 Stars
This is probably the best Iron Maiden album ever. The song selection is unbelievably heavy, it has the best booklet and liner notes of any album I own (and that's a lot because I own 60 cds). However, the song selection could be better. I'm not trying to insult the album, but one or two more songs from Powerslave, Somwhere In Time , and Fear Of The Dark would be good. Even though I love and rate it five stars, I really think it should be a two cd set with about three or four songs from each album. However, even though the song selection is not the best, I still love it and listen to it very often. If you are only a casual Iron Maiden fan, get this and Powerslave, or just this. Other artists who you might enjoy are Judas Priest, Alice Cooper, Dio, and Ozzy Osbourne.
Free Music Review: Iron Metal Hit: 5 Stars
I never thought i would be interested in this sort of music but Iron Maiden is so much better than most metal bands. Their guitarest is so great and probably one of the best of all time. Each song has a sort of premise or idea that inspires it. I would have to say this is one of the most talented bands ever. I bought the album because i was trying new things. At first, the album kind of sat around. But when i finally put it in my stereo, i fell deeply. I couldn't stop listening to Flight of Icarus and 2 Minutes to Midnight. Once i was burnt out on those songs i started listening to the rest of the album and i loved the songs. Iron Maiden is currently my favorite band and i will soon get more of their CDs.
Free Music Review: An Essential Maiden Collection for those... Hit: 5 Stars
of us trying to recapture our youth! Iron Maiden is by all accounts the most classic of metal bands. The last time I heard most of these songs I was 16 and on top of the world. I am now 32 and still a closet metal head. On to the album...If you are a fan, but not a die-hard fan, this album is for you. It has all of the most popular songs. Die-hards will criticize this album for not having some of the more obscure hits. I would recommend this if you want a great summary of some of Maiden's best work and don't want to buy all 13 albums. Also, add Killers and the first album and you are totally set!
Free Music Review: Shut it Hit: 5 Stars
I'm tired of people complaining about this CD. Let's get one thing straight, this is not a 'Best of' CD. This is Iron Maidens greatest hits, the songs that got the most radio play. Their most popular songs, not the ones that are good by your standards. So if you think this is going to be another 'Best of the Beast' you're wrong and don't expect that. It's a greatest hits, not a best of. I'll give it five stars because Iron Maiden is awesome.
