Free Music Notes for Edward the GreatFree Music Review: Please understand, Hit: 4 Stars
Please understand (a couple reviewers had already) that this is NOT a best of -collection. It isn't meant to be one. The best of -collection was the Best of the Beast! This is a greatest hits -collection and that is a completely different beast. This one has all (or most) the chart hit singles by Iron Maiden, no matter if they are the best Iron Maiden has to offer, or (likely) not.
Sure, many like the two first albums, but they didn't have much hit singles back then. And the musical style was also different and it would have made a very incoherent album to put those punk influenced songs on the same cd with 7th son proge-stuff, you see?
What this is, is a coherent sounding (i.e. from first to last track sounding like a whole, not a list of distinct tracks) collection of UK chart hits by Iron Maiden. I would have given five stars, but personally I agree that four tracks from 7th son is overkill. Could've put something else instead (Aces High?).
Free Music Review: Could Have Had Better Selection Hit: 4 Stars
The selection on this album could have been a little better, but it's Maiden, so who cares? Iron Maiden is one of my favorite bands, and I like every one of their songs, but still, the song selection could have been a little more like this: DISC ONE Charlotte The Harlot Murders In the Rue Morgue Prisoner Run to The Hills Number Of The Beast 22 Acacia Avenue Flight Of Icarus Die With Your Boots On Powerslave Aces High 2 Minutes to Midnight DISC TWO Somewhere In Time Wasted YearsEvil That Men Do Infinite Dreams Can I Play W/ Madness Tailgunner Holy Smoke Fear Of the Dark Man On the Edge Wicker Man Brave New World Nomad
Free Music Review: Edward the Great: Greatest Hits Hit: 4 Stars
Edward the Great: Greatest Hits being Iron Maiden's 3rd best of album and was released 2002. Here we get classic tracks such as "Run To The Hills", "2 Minutes to Midnight", and "Wasted Years". Allmusic gave this collection 4/5 and I agree with this. The cover art is amazing and classic Iron Maiden. The photographs of the band are of shifting quality. Someone should tell Bruce Dickinson that wearing white tennis shoes is not very metal and gives vibes of playing another kind of music. All the lyrics are included which is not usual for best of compilations. We also get well-written liner-notes by Steve Harris that tell the story of the band up to the release of this release. 4/5.
Free Music Review: The almost Best. Hit: 4 Stars
Given the choice, I would rather have "Best Of The Beast", but it's either an import, or out of print. However, this is roughly the same. It's also 16 tracks, and has what's essential. Included here is the excellent "Run To The Hills", "Number Of The Beast", "The Trooper", and "2 Minutes To Midnight". Plus a live "Fear Of The Dark" and many more. Too bad it's missing "Aces High" and "Hallowed Be Thy Name" though. Not every track here is a classic, but this is still a good intro to the band, and perfect for your first, or only "Iron Maiden" disc.
Free Music Review: Not a complete compilation Hit: 4 Stars
This could have been a double cd with no problem , selection is very short to enclose the whole Maiden Career, a large list of selections are missing and the Paul Dianno age is not included as if the band were triyng to fortgett those years in wich incredible songs were recorded , however the tracks included are awesome and the only sin of this compilation is that a lot of songs were not included
