Free Music Notes for Edward the Great

Free Music Review: missing essential Paul Di'Anno material
Hit: 3 Stars

The first two albums had Paul Di'Anno on vocals. Their sound was a bit more raw and punky, but the prog-rock/metal elements were still there. There were some great songs from those two: Running Free, Sanctuary, Transylvania (one of my top-5 Iron Maiden songs), Wrathchild, Purgatory. And the sad thing is, none of the Di'Anno tracks are on here. My rating would be higher if they were.
Despite the killer tracks from the Dickinson era on here, Iron Maiden can not be accurately represented on a single disc compilation.
You'd be better off with buying the studio albums. And start with their first self-titled album or work your way up.

Free Music Review: A shocker!
Hit: 3 Stars

Never had any intentions of buying this since I already have the albums, but was shocked to find NOTHING from the first two albums. No 'Iron Maiden'!? No 'Wrathchild'!? Amazing to find [stuff]like 'Bring Your Daughter...' instead. Only three stars for the several great songs included (you know which ones!) C'mon Steve, don't ... on your past like that!

Free Music Review: Could have been greater.
Hit: 3 Stars

I cant believe they did not include at least one of the two best songs they have ever recorded- Rime of the ancient mariner, and Powerslave. Definitely better than a few choices that are on the cd. Could have been Edward the Greatest!

Free Music Review: No DiAnno?
Hit: 3 Stars

Am I the only one who thought "Bring Your Daughter..." was horrible? This has some great songs, to be sure, but would have benefited from an infusion from some of the material from the first two records.

Free Music Review: "Some Good Songs But Mostly A Mediocre Compilation"
Hit: 2 Stars

In the music buisiness a compilation album is either 1)a way to make quick cash or 2)something you can do instead of making a new album wich fills contract obligations of new albums.Iron Maiden have released plenty of album, some more memorable than others while others are somewhat left to be desired. They have a reputation of being one of the best and most influential heavy metal bands, they released many classic albums such as "The Number Of The Beast" and "Piece Of Mind" and they went trought so much in their careers. Some band members quit, some got fired and there are stories but with all that they endured, good and bad times and having accomplished so much i think that if they are going to release any more Greatest Hits albums, they better be good ones.I mean one that really does justice to their careers and to the incredible musicians that they are.And with all the great stuff they did as mentionned earlier why didn't they pick the best of the best? They picked SOME of the best, but you know what i mean.

As with every other compilation and greatest hits albums they are some problems, either with the song choices, wrong dates in the booklet, not enough songs,an era of the band not covered, the time you can fit on the disc, compilations not approved by the band, too much compilations and so on...This compilation is no different.I mean it has some of those typical problems that you'll find on other compilations."Edward The Great:Greatest Hits" has many problems, for one they covered the Bruce Dickinson era and they included two songs from the the Blaze Bayley era of Maiden wich is the most horrible era for the band, yet they did not cover the Paul Di'Anno era.And he was way better than Blaze and some of his songs rocked like "Phantom Of The Opera" and "Prowler" but they still didn't include him,a good Maiden compilation should cover ALL eras of the band even the worst and the not-so-great.Another,the track selection they have two songs from "The Number Of The Beast" and "Piece Of Mind",ONE ONLY of "Powerslave",but 4 from "Seventh Son Of A Seventh Son"?That is not at all a proper mix! They totaly missed some great songs like "Revelations","Hallowed Be Thy Name" and the epic "Rimes Of The Ancient Mariner"(alright this one is understandable as its too long for a compilation)!

There were two much better compilations "The Best Of The Beast" and "The Essential Iron Maiden" that were released prior to this "Edward The Not So Great" or whatever they call it.For a new fan tought, this would probably be acceptable if its the case then get the two compilations mentionned above and stay clear from this one its their worst compilation to date. One thing that is nice however is the addition of the song "Fear Of The Dark" taken from the 2001 Live album "Rock In Rio".This is not the way you want to remember Maiden, not with a compilation like this!2 Stars indeed.
