Free Music Review: Worse Than BEST OF THE BEAST
Hit: 2 Stars

How can Iron Maiden do this to themselves. I hate this CD so much. First of all there is no Paul Dianno stuff what so ever. Not even a live version of "Running Free" with Bruce Dickinson on it. Both "Iron Maiden", and "Killers" are classic albums and are essential. As well there are 4 songs from "Seventh Son Of A Seventh Son." "Infinite Dreams" is definitely unnecessary. It could have gotton by with just "The Evil That Men Do." and "Bring Your Daughter...To The Slaughter" is included as well. I Believe that "Bring Your Daughter...) recieved the raspberry award for the worst song of 1990. So why is it on here. Finally there are several good, classic songs that are missing such as "Phantom Of The Opera", "Sanctuary", "Running Free", "Iron Maiden", "Wrathchild", "Hallowed Be Thy Name", "Where Eagles Dare", "Aces High", and "Rime Of The Ancient Mariner"(may not be neccessary due to it's extreme length). I will give it one thing, the live version of "Fear Of The Dark" is really good. Better than the studio and the one released on "A Real Live One" This is what they should have put on here:

1.Iron Maiden
2.Sanctuary
3.Running Free
4.The Ides Of March/Wrathchild
5.The Number Of The Beast
6.Hallowed Be Thy Name
7.Run To The Hills
8.The Trooper
9.2 Minutes To Midnight
10.Wasted Years
11.The Evil That Men Do
12.Holy Smoke
13.Man On The Edge
14.Futureal
15.The Wicker Man
16.Fear Of The Dark(Live At Rock In Rio)

However if you want to buy an official Greatest Hits album then buy the 2 CD set for "Best Of The Beast" This is what is on there:

Disk 1:
1.Virus
2.Sign Of The Cross
3.Man On The Edge
4.Afraid To Shoot Strangers(Live)
5.Be Quick Or Be Dead
6.Fear Of The Dark(Live)
7.Bring Your Daughter...To The Slaughter
8.Holy Smoke
9.The Clairvoyant
10.Can I Play With Madness
11.The Evil That Men Do
12.Heaven Can Wait
13.Wasted Years

Disc 2:
1.The Rime Of The Ancinet Mariner(Live)
2.Running Free(Live)
3.2 Minutes To Midnight
4.Aces High
5.Where Eagles Dare
6.The Trooper
7.The Number Of The Beast
8.Run To The Hills
9.Hallowed Be Thy Name
10.Wrathchild
11.Phantom Of The Opera
12.Sanctuary
13.Strange World(Demo)
14.Iron Maiden(Demo)

All in all stay away from this. It's terrible

Free Music Review: Neither a "best of" or "greatest hits"
Hit: 2 Stars

As the fans seem to agree, this third compilation suffers from a bad song choice (e.g., 4 songs from one record - a record that is arguably not among their best). Frankly, I do not see much need for a "best of" when there are so many subjective opinions out there among hardcore fans, but a well-compiled "greatest hits" covering a broader range of records might have reached a more superficial audience and would have included:
1. Run to the Hills (#35 in 1982; #9 in 2002 re-release)*
2. The Number of the Beast (#18)*
3. Flight of Icarus (#11)
4. The Trooper (#12)*
5. 2 Minutes to Midnight (#11)*
6. Aces High (#20)*
7. Wasted Years (#18)*
8. Stranger in a Strange Land (#22)*
9. Can I Play with Madness (#3)
10. The Evil That Men Do (#5)*
11. Bring Your Daughter to the Slaughter (#1)
12. Holy Smoke (#3)
13. Be Quick or Be Dead (#2)*
14. Man on the Edge (#10)*
15. The Angel and the Gambler (#18)
16. The Wicker Man (#9)

There are no singles from the Paul D'Anno records because there is a conspicuous absence of "hits", but see optional second-disk below.

For the fans, there could be an optional two-disk "limited edition" which includes the following (to round out the "best of"):
1. Running Free [Live at the BBC 1979]
2. Phantom of the Opera*
3. Sanctuary (#29)
4. Wrathchild*
5. Killers*
6. Hallowed Be Thy Name*
7. Revelations
8. Powerslave*
9. The Clairvoyant (#6)
10. Tailgunner*
11. Fear of the Dark*
12. Futureal*
13. The Clansman*
14. Out of the Silent Planet (#20?)
15. Iron Maiden [Live at Rock in Rio 2001]*

This would cover all the "hits" and the other fan favorites (# is top UK chart position and "*" were the top 20 fan favorites compiled in the 1999 compilation). All in all, there would be 2-3 entries from each of the 12 studio records.

Free Music Review: There already are (more than) enough Maiden compilations out there... take the hint.
Hit: 2 Stars

I can't believe someone would rant about people giving this compilations bad reviews.

There were 2 Maiden compilations before: Best of the Beast, The Essential Iron Maiden, and now "Edward the Great: Greatest Hits". This one should have been called "Edward the Lame: Non-Greatest Hits."

I'll go over the pros and cons:

PROS:
-A Career-spanning single disc package that spans much of their career
-Has "Run To The Hills" and "The Trooper", 2 of their most prominent tracks
-Affordable price
-Should be found anywhere

CONS:
-The Sound remastering is Horrible
-VERY BAD TRACKLISTING! Where the hell is my all-time favorite, "No More Lies"? What about: Montsegeur, Face in the Sand, Dance of Death, The Mercenary, Dream of Mirrors, Blood Brothers, Ghost of the Navigator, Out of the Silent Planet, Lord of the Flies (considering Bayley sucks), Wrathchild, Purgatory, Charlotte the Harlot, Phantom of the Opera, Iron Maiden, Aces High, Losfer Words (Big 'Orra), Flash of the Blade, The Duellists, Back in the Village, Rime of the Ancient Mariner, or Hallowed Be Thy Name? They just chose the most overhyped songs for this collection.
-This cannot be a "Greatest Hits" compilation if it has "Bring Your Daughter to the Slaughter", "Man on the Edge" or "Futureal" on it! God!
-NO D'ANNIO STUFF! Yeah I know he sucked compared to Bruce Dickinson, but he's still better than Blaze Bayley
-"Fear of the Dark" is only the live version! WHY GOD WHY???"

This compilation is only for those unfamilliar with Iron Maiden, let alone Those who have just heard or are just getting into Iron maiden. I would reccomend buying this only if you haven't heard them.

Free Music Review: Best Of Collections Be Damned! UP THE IRONS!!!
Hit: 2 Stars

Yet again we are treated to another incomplete collection of greatest Maiden hits with the most essential pieces cut from the cloth. For starters, Paul Di'anno, original Iron Maiden frontman. Ever hear of an album called Iron Maiden? Killers? Ring a bell? We miss out on such classic Maiden standards as "Running Free" & "Iron Maiden" & "Sanctuary" as well as shredders like "Phantom Of The Opera", "Purgatory", "Wrathchild" & "Killers." Sorry to say, but some of their best, most honest stuff was with Di'anno. "Murders In The Rue Morgue" "Drifter" "Innocent Exile" Anyone??? Get a grip people! Then we move on to Bruce Dickenson-era Maiden and still we fall short. Less emphasis on the earlier albums, they completely cut out inspired works like "Children Of The Damned", "Hallowed Be Thy Name","22 Acacia Avenue", "Revelations", "Die With Your Boots On", "Gangland" and even the Magnum Opus "Rime Of The Ancient Mariner." As to be expected from a single-CD Best Of.. collection, we can see right through it. And why the f**k is Blaze Bayley on this CD at all? Can we get the novocaine and pull that rotten tooth from the body that is Iron Maiden. Mistakes have been made in the past (i.e. the induction of "Bring Your Daughter..." to any Maiden compilation.) I have my own compilations of Maiden - Maiden Heaven & Maiden Hell, and I can assure everyone out there that they blow this Edward The Great rehashed bullsh*t away! No Maiden fan needs to own this disc. It's completely pointless... Can anyone tell me why Seventh Son Of A Seventh Son would have four songs on any disc where Powerslave has only one and Piece Of Mind and Number Of The Beast get two appiece? Has someone, like Eddie, lost their mind?
