Free Music Review: Iron Maiden's gonna get ya, no matter how far!
Hit: 5 Stars

The first effort of Iron Maiden, the legendaric metalband which has spend his time mostly with Bruce Dickinson. But it was Paul Di'anno who has done the vocals on the first two cd's. I also think that Di'Anno gave a different and heavier sound to Maiden. This is also the only Maiden album to feature Dennis Stratton on guitars. Prepare for a heavier album that Iron Maiden has ever released!

The album is everything but boring, there is enough change in the songs, and the guitarplay is interesting together with the vocals. This album starts with the masterpiece Prowler, the melody and the voice's combination... wow! Sanctuary is a swinging rocker which got me into Iron Maiden!!! Remember Tomorrow begins like a ballad, but unlike the real ballad on the album Strange World, which by the way is the best vocal apperance of Di'Anno, it explodes into an instrumental chorus. Running Free is the rocking hit of the album, which is kinda funny as well. Phantom Of The Opera is in my view the best Maiden song ever, together with a few other songs. Transylvania is instrumental and it is followed by Strange World. Charlotte the Harlot is a fast one with funny lyrics. And the album closer IRON MAIDEN is legendaric...

I recommend this album to every Maiden-fan, especially to fans who adored Killers.
Keep On Rocking!! \m/

Free Music Review: One of Metal's Old-School Classics!
Hit: 5 Stars

While Bruce Dickinson is THE voice of Iron Maiden, I think Paul DiAnno's contribution during the early Maiden years is too often overlooked. "Phantom of the Opera" and "Sanctuary" are the first great tunes that turned me on to Iron Maiden, and alerted me to just what an incredible group they are.

I won't go as far to say that I like DiAnnio over Dickinson... there is nobody in all of heavy metal that could reproduce that melodic war-cry of a voice he lets rip! But DiAnnio was unique, and left enough of an impression on this album that I think he deserves a bit more of a nod than he gets.

If you have only heard the highlight CDs of Iron Maiden like "Number of the Beast" and "Powerslave," believe me, you are missing out. Those albums are excellent, true. This album is one of the finest beginnings of any band in the this genre of music.

"Phantom of the Opera" is such a unique piece in the heavy metal tunes of that era. There are so many terrible metal lyrics from that era, which makes this great song stand out. The combo of common mental torment, silent film references, and the classic Maiden guitar licks make everyday domestic-despair sound like gothic horror.

One of those rare albums that is every bit as good as Iron Maiden's later efforts! Worth the time and dough!

Free Music Review: Brilliant Debut!
Hit: 5 Stars

This is Iron Maiden's rawest-sounding album and one of my favorites. The first side (sorry, but I'm a vinyl girl!) starts off with the energetic track "Prowler" and ends with the monster 7-minute anthem "Phantom of the Opera" (this track was covered by the female-led band Sentinel Beast, and they did a splendid job on it). The second side is launched by one of Maiden's best instrumentals "Transylvania" and sums up with their signature (and fun) track "Iron Maiden." This album also has two of Maiden's more famous numbers that followed them throughout the band's career "Charlotte The Harlot" and fan favorite "Running Free." Paul Di'Anno is a different vocalist than Bruce Dickinson. He doesn't wail and his voice has a touch of soul. He does wonderful vocal work, especially on slower tracks "Remember Tomorrow" and "Strange World" (both beautiful). This album is raw and it's interesting listening to this record and then to the sophisticated material Maiden would later produce (Powerslave, Seventh Son, etc.). I like this album best for its variety--from the straight forward, fun rock songs to the tranquil ballads, to the more involved tracks like "Opera." If all you know about Maiden is the Dickinson years, give this album and their second release Killers a shot!

Free Music Review: What a debut!
Hit: 5 Stars

Iron Maiden are an incredible band with some incredible albums, and this one is no exception - it was the first Iron Maiden album I purchased and remains one of my favourites. While not as accessible as some of the later albums, it is a metal classic that all Maiden fans should own.

Some people seem to find it has punk influences which I can't really hear (apart from the tempo in some songs), but then I've never really liked punk or listened to much of it. It's certainly more metal than anything else.

The highlights of this album for me are "Prowler" (love the riffs and solos in the middle chorus), "Transylvania" and of course my ALL TIME favourite song "Phantom of the Opera" - a sublime masterpiece which in my opinion will forever be 'Maiden's greatest. It is my definition of a perfect song. But while those three stand out for me, there is not a single bad song on here and I can listen to the whole album through without even wanting to skip a song. :)

Anything else I could say has already been said multiple times in other reviews, so if you're an Iron Maiden fan, get it! If you're new to Iron Maiden, start with Brave New World or Number of the Beast - they're the easiest to get in to and both excellent albums.

Free Music Review: Give Me a Sanctuary!
Hit: 5 Stars

Iron Maiden's debut has the great "original" vocalist Paul Di'Anno who has also been in "Killers" album. He was maybe the third or forth Iron Maiden vocalist but the first one whose songs has been recorded for the album. The songs are lyrically quite killers. They tell about killing, phantoms, raping, and women. Everything man needs to have or do...just joking. They sounded almost like a punk heavy band. Paul's voice isn't so beautiful as Bruce's but I think these songs sound better sung by Paul. The guitar riffs are brilliant, they really sounded like a heavy punk band and also their live gigs were quite punky. They like to play in clubs and bars where wasn't so many people. They wanted to be near the audience. There's some things that make this album not perfect: the solo in the middle of "The Phantom of the Opera", the peaceful ballad "Strange World" but many of the songs are killers. "Sanctuary" has excellent lyrics: "I've never killed a woman before but I know just how it feels...". "Remember Tomorrow" proves that Paul can sing very high too. "Transylvania" is a great instrumental song. "Running Free" and "Charlotte the Harlot" has excellent lyrics...CtH tells about a whore.
Stars: Charlotte the Harlot, Running Free, Sanctuary
