Free Music Notes for Number of the BeastFree Music Review: this album still contains youth Hit: 5 Stars
This is one fourth of (in my opinion) the four best metal albums. If some one comes up to you and says that metallica started todays metal, tell em' to shut up and listen to number of the beast.here are 9 reasons why this album is so influencial 1 invaders- you never make an album without a good intro song, this is one of them, it also has a catchy intro whitch makes it a classic. 2 children of the dammed- now don't skip this one it's alittle slow if your impatient but the goods await you it's almost like Hallowed be thy name, but thats a later. 3 the prisoner- now that is a catchy ass song, this is the song brings out the punky side of maiden the energy blasts out like bomb the intro is fantastic i wish they would play this live. 4 22 acaia ave.- good riffs on that one the guitars sond great i like songs about hookers for some reason, this would be a good one. 5 number of the beast- the song that made the satanic topic popular not just that it made 666 famous no one can talk about this album with out talking about this song. The phaser induced intro makes it a bloody good song and the intro to the song is always repeated live. 6 run to the hills- now this is justice for the indians. this is also the most song that is allways played live also the beast and the trooper but we'll get to that later. Now the catchy chorus is (in my opinoin) their most catchy chorus to date not to mention a great music video but don't be fooled by immitators this song is copied alot style that is, not the song. 7 gangland- a well fast pased song and their quote on quote never to be missed track i hear alot of people who skip this track but i love it. 8 total eclipse- skip this if your anxious to listen to hallowed be thy name but don't if love the whole album, this song is the least heard song in my opinoin. 9 hallowed be thy name- another prisoner song and yes a great one to this song is fu&king powerful live don't you ever under estimate this one if your a newcomer. all in all this album still sounds young and energetic, alot of albums you hear to day are weak. Now if you like british metal to death check out Motorhead and Judas Priest
Free Music Review: Woe To You, O Earth And Sea..... Hit: 5 Stars
In 1982 I heard of Iron Maiden from a friend of mine. I had been listening to a lot of AC/DC and older Kiss at that point. I saw a video of "Run To The Hills" on MTV, (remember when MTV was cool?), and he said he just got their album, "The Number Of The Beast", and that he thought I'd like it. The next day I found myself in the record store downtown, and bought it on sale for $4.99 on vinyl.
When I got home and played it I was taken aback by its fierceness. The opening track, "Invaders", though not my favorite on the album, certainly hits you like a ton of bricks first time you hear it at the age of 14. I played the whole album twice to soak it in, and it has never left me. It changed me. It made me a metal fan. I subsequently bought all of Maiden's other works up to that point, then got every Maiden album that followed, up to "No Prayer For The Dying", by which I was very disappointed by the way.
I won't list my favorite tracks, as every one is great, with the exception of "Gangland", and probably "Invaders". They are good songs, don't get me wrong, but the rest of the album is SO BRILLIANT that these other 2 pale in comparison.
One little note. On the original album the song "Total Eclipse" is absent, and I never even heard of that song until I rented the "12 Wasted Years" video and saw it performed live there. I later bought the NOTB CD in a limited re-release version that had a bonus CD that had "Total Eclipse", and a live version of "Remember Tomorrow" with Bruce on vocals, (I suspect this track was actually the instrumental take from "Maiden Japan" with Bruce's voice added after, take a listen and see, if you have "Maiden Japan"). Anywho, "Total Eclipse" is a great song!!
Okay, here's a few faves. Hallowed Be Thy Name is the BEST song on the record. Followed very closely by Children Of The Damned, 22 Acacia Avenue, The Prisoner, Total Eclipse, NOTB, and RTTH.
This album is a MUST for anyone who says they like metal at all. Let him who hath understanding reckon the number of the beast. Its number is Iron Maiden!
Free Music Review: "Butt rock" at its finest! Hit: 5 Stars
I'm a casual Iron Maiden fan at best. I'm really not THAT familiar with their catalog, but this is one of the best heavy metal albums I've ever heard. When this album debuted in 1982, I was still playing with "Star Wars" figures and had been indoctrinated that Iron Maiden were evil, Satan-worshiping monsters that played really loud, tuneless music. Plus, they had that scary-looking Eddie guy on their album cover. I was a small child. I was frightened. Years later (my "Star Wars" figures cruelly cast into the dumpster), a high school friend of mine put this album on for me. Not only did it rock, but I also thought it was hilarious. Hilarious for the absurdity of thinking that these Brits were Satan-worshipers, and hilarious for the Spinal Tap-esque music and quasi-operatic vocals of Bruce Dickinson. Had Adam Sandler's "Opera Man" character ever started a metal band, he would have covered Iron Maiden. "The Number of the Beast" *IS* dated, but it stands as a classic nugget of early 1980's British metal. The title track is an ass-kickin' ode to paganism guaranteed to horrify all those living in the Bible Belt; "Run to the Hills" is a pointed, accurate view of the plight of the American Indian (years before "Dances with Wolves" made it trendy might I add); "The Prisoner" illustrates Maiden's pop sensibilities; "Gangland" has a righteous introductory drum roll that Alex Van Halen subsequently ripped off for "Hot for Teacher"; and "Hallowed Be Thy Name"--a dramatic tale told by a man awaiting execution--is a magnificent closer. My punk rock friends (who originally coined the term "butt rock", seen above) still think Iron Maiden is a joke and is music for slack-jawed, red-necked, mullet-wearing yokels blasting it out of their 1981 Chevy Camaros. I endure their slights and simply say to them that the Camaro is a DAMN good American car and mullets will come back in style. So it is written, so shall it be done. Ergo, if you're a casual Iron Maiden fan, like me, or simply want a little metal sprinkled in your musical diet, then "The Number of the Beast" is the CD for you.
Free Music Review: One of My Favorite Heavy Metal Albums Hit: 5 Stars
Iron Maiden has had a truly amazing career for a heavy metal band. Despite some line-up changes through the years, including lead singers, the core of the group has remained stable. Bruce Dickenson coming back to the band as lead singer recently has strengthened the band simply because he has a voice and ability to really carry a heavy metal band. Iron Maiden has been making great music for over 20 years now. I've only seen them live twice and that was in the 1980's. They put a fabulous show. And Eddie is a great mascot.
This is Iron Maiden's third album released in 1982 with Bruce Dickenson introduced as the lead singer. And Iron Maiden just gets better and better.
Simply put this is one of the best heavy metal albums of all time. It is absolutely phenomenal and is one of my favorite albums period and is my favorite Iron Maiden album. Even after over 20 years of owning a copy of it I still listen to it frequently and it goes on long car trips with me.
I could go through almost each song and tell why it's so great but Hallowed be Thy Name, The Number of the Beast, and Children of the Damned stand out as the best in my mind.
If you are going to own just one Iron Maiden album, this is the one to get.
I rate this CD an unbelievable 8 stars.
Children of the Damned **
The Prisoner *
The Number of the Beast **
Run to the Hills *
Hallowed be Thy Name **
Ratings: CDs are rated simply by how many good songs are on the album. Great songs get two stars, and good songs get one star. Songs that get no stars are those that I might like but not enough to give it a star or ones I find boring or actively dislike. CDs are not penalized for songs that I don't like because they are easy enough to skip over. There is no maximum number of stars a CD can get, but of course the more stars it gets, the better the CD.
As with all reviews, these are my subjective opinions on the album.
Free Music Review: Iron Maiden: The Metal Gods Hit: 5 Stars
Iron Maiden are THE gods of metal and redefine the metal genre. With enormous vocals from Bruce Dickinson and absolutely extraordinary guitar solos on nearly every song, Iron Maiden is a great band. And Number of the Beast embodies everything that's good about the Maiden. With enormous hits like Number of the Beast, Run To The Hills, and my all time favorite Maiden song Hallowed Be Thy Name, there's no doubt that this was one of the best albums of the 1980's. Here's a rundown of the tracks:
Invaders (8.5/10) A fast and catchy song that seems like a very happy and upbeat but actually has pretty dark lyrics. Sounds almost like run to the hills.
Children of the Damned (10/10) This is a great song no doubt about it. Very morbid lyrics but then again isn't this Maiden's trademark?
Prisoner (9/10) A pretty good song I believe it's about a fugitive prisoner.
22 Acacia Avenue (9/10) This is a cheerful, upbeat song. Is a sequel from one of the previous albums and almost doesn't belong on this album.
The Number of the Beast (10/10) What can I say. This is an amazing song. It's not about Satan it's about one of Steve Harris' dreams in case you were wondering. An extraordinary title track.
Run to the Hills (9.2/10) A classic Maiden single that helped bring these guys to the mainstream. Not my favorite but still an upbeat, happy song about white men raping Indians.
Gangland (8/10) One of the worst off the album but still if it's Maiden, it's good.
Total Eclipse (8.8/10) Another pretty good song. Nothing too special about this one.
Hallowed Be Thy Name (PERFECT) Wow. Everytime I listen to this song it amazes me. It's superb and has one of the best instrumental sections out of any Maiden song. Impressive lyrics about how a prisoner on death row achieves some kind of union with god. But anyway this is an unbelievable song.
To conclude, this is Maiden at it's best. Other great Maiden albums include Powerslave, Piece of Mind, Brave New World, and Seventh Son of a Seventh Son. UP THE IRONS!
