Free Music Notes for Piece of MindFree Music Review: the biggest peak of their career Hit: 5 Stars
from the beginning to the end there is great rock/heavy metal.
here are my ratings for each song:
1.Where eagles dare 5/5 very nice song. the chords on the guitar is just so cool! i luv the lyrics too.
2. revelations 6/5 this is such an awesome song. the chords on the guitar on this song is just rockin'! i think this maybe one of the best songs on the album. these r my fav lyrics.
3. flight of icarus 5/5 another great song from the guys. the favorite part of the song is the heavy metal chords. it's just bangin'.
4. Die with your boots on 4.5/5 its a great song but just a little too long. i'm not sure but theres something about it that makes it a wee bit boring. but the lyrics are just super macho. lol
5.the trooper 10/5 actually its more like 100/5 but i want to be realistic. This song is just so famous and cool that u just wish u were a trooper urself. n e way this song is just way to awesome. the aah part is my fav part of the whole album i must say. this is one their finest songs in their career.
6. still life 4.5/5 i like the entire song except for the first part. where nicko was saying something backwards. the first time i heard it i was like "is their an alien invasion or something?" but then i listen to the rest of the song and it was great. i luv the nightmares part.
7. quest for fire 5/5 i really don't see why everyone is dissin this song. its awesome. i mean the lyrics rn't that bad. i mean fire is important u know. the chords were a little slow which i thought was better than super fast pace chords.
8.Sun and steel 5/5 this song is pretty sweet. i think it is about a samurai, which is even sweeter. n e way this song is lyrically and musically rad.
9. To tame a land 3/5 this is the worst song on the whole album. why you may ask and the lyrics are just kinda crappy and weird. but other than that its pretty dang sweet. to go well with the fans i would have put the best song (trooper) at the last, just like #of the beast and power slave. okay thanx for listening.
p.s. if u like this album buy powerslave. thanx u have been a great audience. good night.
Free Music Review: Classic Album Hit: 5 Stars
This album was a step in a more technical direction than Maiden's previous three albums. It contains probably their most popular single to date, "The Trooper," and is still included on every tour set list since its release.
Lyrically, most of the album feels as if the band was beginning to experiment more and trying different things with quite polarized results, in my opinion. Strong points include: "Where Eagles Dare," "The Trooper," "Still Life," "Flight Of Icarus" and "Revelations." Weak points would be "Quest For Fire" (the lyrics about dinosaurs and cave people just don't live up to the intellectual bar Maiden had previously set) and "To Tame A Land" (the song is about "Dune" but the words just aren't as clever as some of Maiden's other work). However odd some of the lyrics may seem, Maiden never fail to keep your attention melodically.
Historically, this is the first album to contain the line-up that really propelled them to the top. During the "Number of the Beast" tour, Iron Maiden replaced drummer Clive Burr with Nicko McBrain. To prove himself to the fans, McBrain starts the album off with a technical demonstration of his abilities. He begins the album with a memorable triplet roll, leading to an anticipating rest for "Where Eagles Dare." Throughout the song, Nicko plays a repeating syncopated triplet pattern on the bass drum at 150 beats a minute. While most drummers can do this with the aid of a double bass drum petal, Nicko chooses to play it with one foot on a single petal. Try that for even thirty seconds and your foot feels like it wants to fall off. Playing the entire song with this pattern is quite a feat and adds to the respect McBrain quickly earned and maintains to this day.
For me this album sits in a unique place. It definitely is a part of history and has stood the test of time. I love some of it, I hate some it, and some of it is just OK. However, it does convey a simple message that is the title: for peace of mind one needs to accomplish whatever they may dream and be willing to just take chances, even if it isn't popular or seems a little crazy. If it's important to you, then that is all that should matter.
Free Music Review: Almost as good as Powerslave Hit: 5 Stars
The album got out in 1983. The first with drummer Nicko McBrain. My 2nd favorite maiden album after Powerslave (alongside NOTB), although this comes very close. This is as well the first Maiden album I ever had and by far in my top 10 best albums ever. Also Dave and Adrian (Beside the debut that Adrian wasn't there) never played better before and here they are proving they are real guitarists. And also Nicko did his job well, although he gets better and better in the next albums.
Where Eagles Dare (11/10): A killer opener and my 2nd favorite on the album. It has a great instrumental part and a long killer solo.
Revelations (10/10): It starts as a power ballad and slow but it becomes faster and heavier toward its end. Probably the best lyrics that written by Dickinson.
Flight of Icarus (10/10): A classic. I have doubts if Bruce can still sing it like this.
Die With Your Boots On (7/10): The least complex song on the album. It has one of the best intros to a Maiden song and the verses are great but I hate the background vocals in the chorus.
The Trooper (50/10): Do I need to explain this rating??
Still Life (9/10): It starts with a backround message. People tend to diss this song for some reason. Its chorus is great. However I didn't much like the solo, although its decent.
Quest for Fire (9/10): This one is dissed even more than the previous, it has a great intro, the lyrics are kinda stupid, but it could get worse.
Sun and Steel (8/10): Nice song. I don't have much to say about it.
To Tame a Land (10/10): A great 7 mins epic. It has cool riffs and basslines.
I don't care if people say this album is filler because of some songs. I think that the last 4 tracks pn the album are 4 of the most underrated Maiden songs. I hear people say it's the weakest Maiden work in the 80's. If you ask me it's ridiculous to say something like ths (how can anyone say it's worse than Somewhere in Time? Man, I have no idea). Anyway pick this up, you won't be dissapointed.
UP THE Music Review: Piece Of Mind Review Hit: 5 Stars
This album to me is Maiden at their peak. The only thing it could possibly could be comparable to in greatness are Somewhere in Time and Seventh Son, but they were more synth-driven albums, so they have different styles which aren't really comparable. Just coming off of their breakthrough Number of The Beast, their classic line-up was playing at their peak. Bruce's voice is great on this album, as he uses many different vocal styles to create interseting song atmosphere's, which is particularlly evident in To Tame A Land. This album has the perfect combination of both fast and slow songs. Now, I'll rate each song one by one. Where Eagles Dare- A very fast opener with cool singing, great instrumental part in the middle with awesome machine gun sounds in it. Like a premonition to Aces High. 5/5 Revelations- This album's masterpiece. Slower paceed at first, but then gets fast, and back to slow again. Great lyrics, also sounded great on Live After Death. 5/5 Flight of Icarus- An overrated song. So what if it was a single, that dosen't mean its a great song. Cool beginning, but the chorus isn't that great. 4/5 Die With Your Boots On- Awesome song! Another fast one, with a good chorus and a great opening riff. 5/5 The Trooper- Great song, with an awesome solos. More wonderful singing. 5/5 Still Life- Funny message in the beginning, then goes in to a slow, very melodic section before erupting in to an awesome chorus. 4.5/5 Quest For Fire- I don't really like the singing on this song, but the one thing that never failed Maiden during their Glory Years was the music itself, so that is obviously still evident in this song. 3/5 Sun and Steel- Strangley addictive because of its cool chorus. Love the fast playing on this one. 4/5 To Tame A Land- Great singing, kind of strange but it most definetly works here. The band plays so tight its incredible. For sure a masterpiece. 5/5 I don't think that there is much more to say. You must buy this album!
Free Music Review: One of Iron Maiden's Best Hit: 5 Stars
Iron Maiden has had a truly amazing career for a heavy metal band. Despite some line-up changes through the years, including lead singers, the core of the group has remained stable. Bruce Dickenson coming back to the band as lead singer recently has strengthened the band simply because he has a voice and ability to really carry a heavy metal band. Iron Maiden has been making great music for over 20 years now. I've only seen them live twice and that was in the 1980's. They put a fabulous show. And Eddie is a great mascot.
This Iron Maiden's fourth album released in 1983 with Bruce Dickenson as the lead singer. In this album Iron Maiden goes to longer storytelling tracks than their previous albums, and with good results.
Where Eagles Dare, Revelations, and The Trooper are my favorite tracks. This is another one of those albums where are all the songs are pretty good and you'll find yourself listening to the entire CD without skipping tracks.
This is my second favorite Iron Maiden album next to The Number of the Beast.
I rate this CD an impressive 5 stars.
Where Eagles Dare *
Revelations *
The Flight of Icarus *
The Trooper **
Ratings: CDs are rated simply by how many good songs are on the album. Great songs get two stars, and good songs get one star. Songs that get no stars are those that I might like but not enough to give it a star or ones I find boring or actively dislike. CDs are not penalized for songs that I don't like because they are easy enough to skip over. There is no maximum number of stars a CD can get, but of course the more stars it gets, the better the CD.
As with all reviews, these are my subjective opinions on the album.
