Free Music Notes for Piece of MindFree Music Review: maybe my favorite maiden album Hit: 5 Stars
for some reason, I never really acknowledge iron maiden as a cornerstone of metal, but with any close listen you realize iron maiden play metal like its the only thing they were put on earth to do, and you can tell they have so much fun doing it... its very inspiring. aside from powerslave this is probably my favorite maiden album... there isnt really a weak spot on here, and this is were some of their best melodic leads came into play.
this was the first iron maiden album where other band members besides steve harris put their input into the songwriting, and it totally pays off. there is honestly not any filler on here, which is more than I could say for somewhere in time, or dance of death even though they have great songs...
this album just kicks so much ass, its a blast to listen to, but there is also real emotion coursing through piece of minds viens, there are some solos that will bring you to tears and force your hands into permanent metal devil horns! I dont know about that, but I can say with a clear concious that they never matched the lead melodies on this album... everything is top notch.
this makes a great intro to iron maiden, or just a really bad assed addition to any cd collection. I cant say enough good things about this album.
Free Music Review: Maiden's best ( Right Along side with almost every album) Hit: 5 Stars
Every song on this album is awesome so I'll just give them all 10/10. Where Eagles dare kicks off with awesome drumming, the second best on the album.Revelations defines the overall sound on this album. Flight of Icarus in my opinion is second best on POM. Die with your On is a wierd ass song about the apocalypse except its awesome. The trooper is the most popular from the album. Still Life is out of control and crazy about the fear of drowning but is up in the best. Quest for Fire is the most underrated song until "No Prayer".Sun and Steel is written about some Samurai who wrote a book..... But out of all these songs none can touch the closing song which I believe slaughters Rime of the Aincient Mariner on Powerslave. To Tame A Land is based on the greatest Sci-Fi book ever, Dune by Frank Herbert. The song starts off with a melodic guitar which breaks into a heavy section and you get to hear a worm-rider if you know what that is at all. The first part of lyrics describe the set of Dune, the desert world of Arrakis while part 2 refers to the plot more. Then it breaks into the best drums I've heard since Neil Peart of Rush.It becomes a legendary solo and the track fades out. Overall Maiden gives 110% on this album, unlike Metallica and Linkin PArk.
Free Music Review: 2nd favorite Maiden album Hit: 5 Stars
Piece of Mind (1983) is Iron Maiden approaching their prime. In some ways, it's a tune-up to their next album, Powerslave. The last track, TO TAME A LAND has bass parts that sound similar to RIME OF THE ANCIENT MARINER from Powerslave. This track, along with WHERE EAGLES DARE are the two best on the album. WHERE EAGLES DARE makes its presence known with a bold drum intro, and establishes drummer Nicko Mc Brain as Maiden's newest formidable force. The song has a very artistic middle section, in which the guitars really ring out a melodic echoey riff that's very catchy. This song alone is worth the price of the CD. Of course, THE TROOPER is a classic, and gets a lot of airtime compared to the rest of the songs. I've always liked the fact that Iron Maiden always has at least 5 super songs in their arsenal on each album. FLIGHT OF ICARUS is solid, as is REVELATIONS. I'm not crazy about QUEST FOR FIRE, as it's the weakest of the tracks, in my opinion. Another thing that stands out about this album is the more raw sound compared with its predecessor, Number of the Beast.I like the duller sound on this album. It works well. All in all, Piece of Mind is a must-have for Maiden fans, along with Powerslave and Number of the Beast. The honorable mention is Seventh Son of a Seventh Son. 9/10
Free Music Review: Another Excellent Maiden Effort Hit: 5 Stars
"Piece Of Mind" released in 1983 captures Iron Maiden at the height of their powers. Although it is underrated, (thanks to being sandwiched inbetween "The Number Of The Beast" and "Powerslave") "Piece Of Mind" is arguably Maiden's finest of fine efforts. The group really made strides on this album, now being used to Bruce Dickinson's vocals and recruiting new drummner Nicko McBrain who is outstanding on this CD. Of course this album is remembered for "The Trooper" and "Flight of Icarus" there are many gems on here such as the opener "Where Eagles Dare" or "Revelations" written entirely by Bruce. I found "Piece Of Mind" to be more melodic and accessible than Maiden's earlier stuff which incorporated some elements of punk but with a group as talented as this, thats not a bad thing at all.
The Enhanced version of this CD is outstanding. Not only is the sound production better but you get access to the entire Maiden catalogue with song samples from each CD, a background of this particular CD, videos of "The Trooper" and "Flight Of Icarus", and much more.
Finally, this CD was ranked #7 by Metal-Rules.com for the best heavy metal albums of all-time. "Powerslave" and "The Number Of The Beast" were also in the Top 10.
Up The Irons!
Free Music Review: A very strong release Hit: 5 Stars
Upon listening to this album initially, I thought it was pretty good, but not spectacular. A few more listenings definitely changed my mind on that one. Where eagles dare is a great way to start off the album with dickinson just belting out the chorus under some truly heavy instrumental work. Revelations is a good track, but by no means the best on the album. The flight of icarus is another track that's just really spectacular and has a truly driving beat. Die with your boots on has good lyrical intensity and a simplistic, albeit catchy, chorus. The trooper may easily be my favorite maiden song around if only for the first 30 or so seconds, let alone the rest of the song. Still life is a nice and spooky song, quest for fire fits in nicely in the context of the other songs, but not quite good enough to stand on its own. Sun and steel has some awesome vocal harmonies on the chorus and to tame a land, true to maiden fasion, is a spectacular closing epic.
