Free Music Notes for PowerslaveFree Music Review: Congratulations!!! 25th Anniversary Hit: 5 Stars
Today we celebrate the quarter of century this masterpiece came out.
This album marks a very high point of evolution of the Iron Maiden sounds from their beggining. More complex sound, fast, strong, sharp and as always in Maiden music, so rhythm.
The music of Powerslave is outstanding, incredible, its pure adrenaline, oh God I need to breath strong with this magical themes.
Powerslave become to represent a very conceptual record with egiptian and epic songs like Powerslave, Flash of the blade, The Duellist.
Beside we found more contemporary thems like the very famous Aces High and Two minutes to midnight.
The last superb The Rime of the Anciente Mariner is ... well I don't have words, hear it, feel it... is the Iron Maiden Opera ... so beatiful lyrics develops Steve Harris arround the Samuel Taylor Coleridge poem. What kind of inspiration would exist in this guy mind!!! My favorite Iron Maiden song with Powerlave and Infite Dreams.
The songs:
1. Aces High ... 11/10 Adrenaline become musical notes!.... Excelent epic music with the lyrics about the RAF defending United Kingdom against Luftwaffe and the Third Riech.
2. 2 Minutes to Midnight ... 8/10 Contemporay theme about total aniquilation of the war culture of death in the 80s era of cool war.
3. Losfer words (Big 'Orra) ... 8/10 Very good instrumental music with melodic games between the bass, guitars and drums.
4. Flash of the blade ... 8/10 Excelent epic song about the fight with swords or fencing. (another Bruce hobbie!) I stand out in the song the perfomance of Dickinson with beutiful changes of tones in his chorus.
5. The Duellists ... 10/10 Another very beatiful perfomance of Dickinson in very good musical perfomance too. The musical notes flights fast and strong. You can appreciate classic rhythm guitars of Dave and Adrian stamping the sign or Iron Maiden sounds.
6. Back in the Village ... 7.5/8 A particular song a little different in my opinion of the rest of the songs. Very good, fast song too.
7. Powerslave ... 15/10 The most great song ever composed by Bruce Dickinson. ufff The main song theme of the album. Absolutely transports you three thousand years ago. The lyrics in first person make narration of an Egiptian King which deny to let this world and deny to let the power. You can see it as a epic narration and a metaphor. The musical quality of this composition seems to be out of this world!!!
8. The Rime of the Ancient Mariner ...15/10 For me these song marks the highest point of the Maiden inspiration, these masterpiece remember you the intelectual level of Iron Maiden leader. Mr Steve Harris. 13 Minutes of music with your mind totally involved in the epic drama of the Mariner and his shipmates. Steve does a magistral "growth" of the Samuel Taylor Coleridge poem. The music is too an in extreme and incredible Opera with a different melodies on it. These song I think is a unique specie.
What more I can say... 25 years hearing Powerslave and each day I feel these album growing in the music history.
Thanks Iron Maiden, incredible for this young boys in the 80s the quality and creative of the music that deliver us.
Release date September 3th, 1984 - September 3th, 2009. Recorded at Compass Point Studios, Nassau, Bahamas.
Free Music Review: Maiden's Best Hit: 5 Stars
You have to put this album into its proper perspective..
I had the pleasure of being in high school when Maiden first came onto the scene.. I remember getting Killers right after it was released, as well as being the first kid on the block to buy the Maiden Japan EP. Their live shows were unbelievable..
We waited with baited breath every time their next album was going to be released.. The Number of the Beast was OK, and Piece of Mind Rocked (Who can forget Die With Your Boots On?).
Then came Powerslave.. Again let's put this into perspective.. What was the state of Metal in 1984?
Black Sabbath? Let's see, Dio had left, to be replaced by Ian Gillian, and in 1983 they had just released 'Born Again' with the classic songs.... Oh that's right, 'Born Again' sucked.. Fortunately 'Born Again' was SOOOOOOOO bad, Gillian left and re-united with Deep Purple on 'Perfect Strangers' (what an awesome tour THAT was)
Of course Dio did go on to release The Last in Line and Holy Diver, before he to went into the tank.
Rainbow? They had broken up..See Deep Purple reunited..
Scorpions? BY 1984 they had sold out completely, so much so that when you compared them to their early stuff they were barely recognizable.
Judas Priest? See 'Scorpions'
Def Leppard? The only difference between them and the Scorps was that it only took Def Leppard 2 albums to sell out..
Krokus? The Blitz.. Need I say more?
So what did us head bangers have? Metallica was up and coming (actually They had Arrived) Ozzy was.. Well Ozzy was Ozzy.. Megadeth was still jamming, and there were a few others, but what was on the horizon? Ratt, Dokken, Whitesnake
Then came Powerslave... I will never forget the first time we listen to it.. 'Losfer Words' was awesome and 'Back in the Village' absolutely blew us away, But none of us were prepared for the 'Rime of the Ancient Mariner'. We must have listen to that one song about 10 times that day...
I have only 'worn out' a handful of Albums (Sabbath's Paraniod, Masters of Reality and Vol 4 to name a few) but Powerslave is one of them. It is arguably Maiden's Best Album (if not it's definately in the top 3), and when reviewing it you have to consider what the alternative was in 1984.. Ratt?
So for anyone looking to buy some Maiden. look no further, or if you feel obligated to, look at "iron Maiden", "Killers" or "Piece of Mind", but whatever you do, skip Number of teh Beast until you have this one...
Other 'must have' albums in my collection... The first seven Sabbath Albums, the first 2 Def Leppard albums, the first 5 Maiden Albums, every Scorpion Album up to and including Black Out, Metallica's KILL 'EM All, Anthrax's Fistful of Metal, Judas Priest anything prior to Screaming for Vengence... Nazareth's Hair of the Dog, and Razamanaz, Riot's (NOT QUIET RIOT) Fire Down Under,(probably the GREATEST HARD ROCK album ever released) anything by Stabbing Westward (some of the greatest lyrics ever incorporated in to songs), and finally anything by Tool and A perfect Circle (thank goodness someone is still making great music).
Free Music Review: Maidens Finest Album Hit: 5 Stars
Im going to start by saying this album is in my top 5 favorite cds and i have over 100. 1. Aces High: This starts the album off with a bang. The guitar riffing is fast, high pitched, and adrenline pumping, not a very heavy song, but still metal and just as good. There is also a great solo by Dave Murray. You'll like this song if you like faster, higher pitched, metal songs. 10/10 2. Two Minutes to Midnight: This was Maidens highest single of this album and for good reason, it has a cool riff and a very catchy chorus. Bruce dickinson does a pretty good vocal performance on this song. The guitar riff is much like Ted Nugent's Stormtrooping. 10/10 3. Losfer Words (Big Orra):This was Maidens last instrumenatal, and unfortunatly it was not another Ghengis Khan. It has a fast heavy Prog Rock Sounding riff to it, this song is complety unique and I haven't heard anything like it. 8/10 4. Flash of the blade: The song starts out with a unusual riff that sound like it could be part of a Ozzy Osbourne guitar solo. when the lyrics start both guitarists do your typical iron maiden power cord riffing. There is a cool sychronized solo played in octaves in the guitar bridge. 8/10 5. The Duellists. Starts off with more heavy guitar riffing. Steve Harris plays his bass great in this song, providing a good backup sound in the chorus and the guitar solo that follows. Some parts of this song are very heavy, other parts are filled with melody, and in some parts there is both. There is an excellent guitar bridge and solo. 9/10 6. Back in the Village: It's a decent song but it pales in comparison to all the other songs, it has a really wierd sounding main riff. When the guitar solo starts at 2:30 the song gets really good with good riffs and a guitar solo. 7/10 but 9/10 for the solo 7. Powerslave: This is the secound best song on the album, the opening guitar riff is fast, galloping, and vicous sounding. Then it gets even better during the chorus when the riff changes into something even nastier and faster then the opening one. After the secound chorus the song complety mellows out into a slow beatiful guitar solo, this goes on for a minute then the drums kick in and in launches a fast, powerful, absoluty rocking guitar solo, with Steve Harris's Bass loudly playing along in a catchy little rhythm during the solos. 11/10 8. Rime of the Ancient Mariner. The album ends with one maidens finest songs ever. Every single memmber of the band shines on this song, there are more good guitar riffs in this song then on any 10 Nu-Metal albums, nevermind make that 20 albums, i kinda forgot how bad nu-metal is. This song is complety fasicnating and still amazes me. The whole album is worth the price just for this 14 minute epic masterpiece. 13/10 Sorry if you didn't understand me or i rambled on, but i just love this album, buy it! Please tell me what you thought of my review by pressing yes or no, im just curious to see if i was helpful at all. Thanks for reading. and one other thing listen to wrathchild (the reviewer below me.) he is absoluty right about everything he said, screw king diamond and all that satanic sh*t.
Free Music Review: My favourite Iron Maiden album of the 80's Hit: 5 Stars
Alot of us fans think that Iron Maiden created the best album of the 80's and we know we're right. Powerslave was Iron Maiden's greatest album until(in my opnion)it was beaten by Brave New World without any hesitation. Read on for some commentaries on each track:Aces High: 5/5 - The greatest album opener ever and the fastest song on the album. Once again, the Twin Guitar Attack work strongly as a unit, and provide us with some of their best guitar work. Bruce really powered his voice into a 'megaphone' and the heart and soul of the band, Steve and Nicko 'pumped up' the songs background with thundering bass and drums. This song along with The Trooper are Iron Maiden's best songs of the 80's. Two Minutes To Midnight: 5/5 - The first Iron Maiden song I've heard and one of the greatest NWOBHM songs ever! Manages to stick with Aces High as two of the best songs on Powerslave. Losfer Words (Big 'Orra): 4.8/5 - Awesome instrumental that shows a sign of matching the album's theme. Thankfully it didn't and couldn't beat Transylvania or Genghis Khan as Iron Maiden's best instrumental. You may find it weird but I knocked off 0.2 points for the terrible solos and the goofy title for the song. The Duellists: 4.5 - OK song but lacks the energy used in a lot of this album's tracks. Back In The Village: 4.9 - Nice song and OK lyrics but it's ruined by the vocal rythems. Even so it was still saved by the music. I recommend this song only for true Iron Maiden loyalists. Powerslave: 5/5 - The title track is where the album picks up again after three average songs. This song is mostly about Egypt(judging from the cover art)and has my favourite bass solo in the middle. Really awesome track, must be heard by everyone, even by non-Iron Maiden fans. It truly is a classic. Rime Of The Ancient Mariner: 5/5 - The epic off the album, a 13+ minute powerhouse based on a poem(I think it's a play but I'm not sure)with the same name by Samuel Taylor Coleridge (1798-1834)and written by Steve Harris. Also includes a part of the poem/play, pretty haunting if it's combined with a bass background. This song...CANNOT and MUST NOT be missed by fans this time(non-Iron Maiden fans don't deserve to hear this powerhouse track). Rare tracks from this era: Rainbow's Gold: 4.7/5 - Good, solid track and has great sections but at most parts the music sounds like old western/country type music. Mission From 'Arry: ?/5 - I'm sorry to say that I haven't heard this song because I can't find it. King Of Twilight: 5/5 - Excellent track! That's all I can really say, download it to decide how good you think it is. Lineup: Bruce Dickinson - Vocals Steve Harris - Bass Guitar Dave Murray - Guitar Adrian Smith - Guitar Nicko "Fathead" McBrain(as Bruce called him on Live At Donnington) - Drums Overall: A masterpiece and my favourite album from this era. I just wish I knew what pressure Iron Maiden was at while writting and recording this album. Get it while you can because if ya don't, it's gonna be sold out like it was here in Kuwait. I got mine from the United States of America(just to show my respect)because their wasn't a single album left about two days after it was released here in Kuwait.
Free Music Review: Iron Maiden's finest hour Hit: 5 Stars
In 1984 Iron Maiden released their 5th studio album. This is simply the one of best metal albums ever put out.
This is easily one of the best Maiden album and it's their 2nd most popular album (next to NOTB). Along with that album this is my favorite IM album. The songwriting was slightly better in 'Number' and 'Piece', but this the instrumentalists never sounded better on any other album. Those 2 are both excellent, in fact everything by Maiden is great (go ahead and laugh, but I also like the Blaze albums). This album has some of the most amazing dual-guitar work I've ever heard, excellent drums, basslines, vocals and production. Everything here is perfect, there is no one weak track on the album. If I have any complaints, they would be that metal goes only downhill from this point, the other one is that this album doesn't get the popularity it deserves.
The Lineup:
Bruce Dickinson - Vocals
Steve Harris - Bass
Dave Murray - Guitars
Adrian Smith - Guitars
Nicko McBrain - Drums
Now to the songs...
Aces High: One of the most complex songs to play, no seriously, fast riffs, great solo, soaring vocals and excellent drum beats. This is one of the strongest album openers ever and the heaviest song on the album. MUST LISTEN.
2 Minutes to Midnight: This is the song that hooked me to Maiden, and it's the biggest hit off the album. It's not as complex as Aces High, but still one of the most amazing songs ever. MUST LISTEN.
Losfer Words: This is probably the best Maiden's instrumental. While it's not that long, still complex instrumental work and great solo too. Steve's basslines also really shine here. MUST LISTEN.
Flash of the Blade: Wow what a great intro! Excellent dual guitar attack and vocals are in top notch. MUST LISTEN.
The Duellists: Mostly an instrumental track, great riffs, also the vocal parts are great and great solo. Oh and one more thing I should point out is that people need to stop bitchin about that the riffs are recycled from Losfer Words, this sounds nothing like it and it's not even the same riffs, people... MUST LISTEN.
Back in the Village: Very underrated. This has some of the best riffs here and it's quite heavy. Adrian & Dave really deliver here. MUST LISTEN.
Powerslave: Another highlight. Has great egyptian feel and also a fan favorite. The 1:30 mins solo is bad@$$, worth alone the price of the album. MUST LISTEN.
Rime of the Ancient Mariner: You haven't lived till you heard this song. It's an 13:30 mins epic. No single moment here is boring and the interlude is great also. The best solo from the album. This is THE best Maiden song, tied with Hallowed Be Thy Name and one of the best of all time. MUST LISTEN.
As you see all tracks are MUST LISTEN. Why? They all rule, period.
There you have it. The most amazing and underrated album ever. Any metal (I'm not talking of that nu-metal garbage) collection without this isn't complete. Anyway, if you want a good introduction for THE GREATEST metal band of all time, start here.
UP THE IRONS!!!
