Free Music Notes for PowerslaveFree Music Review: Near perfect Hit: 5 Stars
This was my very first album, which I decided to buy after hearing 2 Minutes to Midnight on GTA:VC. But anyways, this is a truly great album, packed with very good songs, and not song is completely bad. Bruce Dickinson's voice may a take a bit of getting used to (as with Dave Mustaine), but eventually it sounds great (such as in Rime of the Ancient Mariner). The bass is also visible, which is something I rarely see in metal albums.1. Aces High: Such a great opening riff to such a great song, and then the pre-verse riff is the best riff on the album. The verse seems a bit lacking, as the music coordinates a bit too much with the vocals. The pre-chorus is very good and thunderous, and the chorus is just plain great. It also contains a good solo. Rating: A 2. 2 Minutes to Midnight: The song that got me into Iron Maiden, the main riff in the song is sweet, and in my opinion, Dickinson's voice sounds incredible in this song. The chorus is great as well, and the soft part in the middle is great. Rating: A- 3. Losfer Words (Big 'Orra): An odd name, but a "bright" feeling to this song with some odd sounding riffs. Good song, though. Rating: B 4. Flash of the Blade: While many Maiden fans love this song, I dislike it the most on the album. The beginning is good, as it reminds me of In Flames' "Bullet Ride", but yet the rest of the song seems kinda bad to me. Rating: C 5. The Duellists: Better than the previous track, but still nothing too amazing. It does contain a cool instrumental middle section. Rating: B+ 6. Back In the Village: Talk about heavy duty! The two opening riffs in the song are very fast and very good. I also love the whole entire song altogether, a fast paced song, but the chorus needed a bit more. Rating: B+ 7. Powerslave: A very good title track for a very good album. The lyrics are very well thought out, and the music compliments them perfectly. The pre-chorus riff is absolutely menacing! An overall great song. Rating: A 8. Rime of the Ancient Mariner: A very long song, and a super-epic, yet very good. The only bad part about this song is the middle with just a bassline. However, this song is not to be missed. Rating: A+ And to end that note, this whole album is not to be missed!
Free Music Review: the biggest peak of their career Hit: 5 Stars
The first time I listened to Powerslave I was hooked to Iron Maiden. There arn't any stand out tracks (i think). The whole album is just solid. Here are my reviews for the album
1. Aces High 5/5 Definetly one of their best songs on the album. Nice and short. thats how i like 'em
2. 2 minutes to midnight 5/5 A little long but still a good rocker with an addictive chorus
3 Losfer words 5/5 A very nice instrumental. It has a killer solo and an even killerer riff. lol
4. Flash of the blade 5/5 THe beginning trick with the guitar is if i say so myself excellent. The lyrics are great too
5. The duellists 6/5 This is one of my favorite songs on the album. it has great lyrics which is awesome. it also has a good steady melody
6. back in the village 5/5 The first time I listened to this song it was eerie and annoying. but the more i listen the more i get used to with the ol' "back in the village i'm back in the village i'm back in the village... again." It also has this drum solo thing at the end which basically combines this song with the next song which is..
7. Powerslave 5/5 this song is so rad! i don't know but if you play this scale without a sharp you get this weird egyption thing which i think is what Iron Maiden did with this song. The chorus is a little cheasy but hey all great rock bands need cheasy choruses. i mean "i'm a slave to the power of death" thats weak. but still a great song
8. Rime of the ancient mariner 10/5 this is the best Iron Maiden song on this album. Yeah forget what i said in the beginning about no really stand out songs. Any way the best part of this song is where Iron maiden the speed chord thing in the beginning. i luv the lyrics "and the curse goes on and on and on at sea, and the thirst goes on and on for them and me." it is just so radically yea sorry about that whole radical thing.
Anyway just buy this album and you won't be sorry. don't buy it at borders either they have the music video thing on it so it costs like 20 dollars. And you also need like 3 mg to see it which is hard to find these days... lol
Free Music Review: Can Maiden achieve perfection? Hit: 5 Stars
The answer to my title is yes. After the highly succesful album "Piece Of Mind", they hit the studios again and recorded their 5th album "Powerslave". But first a little history of me and maiden.
I went to Sacramento this one day, exactly a year ago, coming home from this one kids party. I was into rock back then and I just couldn't keep my hands off Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin albums. That's when I passed the 'I' section. I shivered when I first saw the album cover. I looked at the ones behind it, and it got worse. "Number Of The Beast", "Killers", "The X Factor". I thought to myself, "What kind of sadistic band is this?!" So I gave myself one of those samples on the touch screen computers, and I was blown away. Each song had a special taste/characteristic that I was always unknowingly craving for. This was the album I was looking for. Hey, I'm not dissing Sabbath or Zep, but they just can't compare to the sheer glory of this album. The fast pace to "Aces High", the tasty solos and vox to "Two minutes to midnight"(a well known classic), the awesome guitar work of Adrian Smith and Dave Murray on "Powerslave", and the thumping bass lines and excellent drum fills found in "Rime Of The Ancient Mariner", etc. I mean it's ALL here. The heavy metal, crunching the bones type of feel, but it is also very melodic, found all over the place. Just check out the solo around the 1 minute mark on "Losfer Words, Big Orra". That's fantasic!
Over the year, I have not decreased my liking for Maiden, in fact, I respect them more than the first time I popped this CD (awesome CD and Album cover art by the way) into my CD player. I have since then gathered as many Iron Maiden albums I have been able to grasp since that day. I only need several more to complete my collection. And trust me, this is no band, you can just put in the back of your CD case to rot. This is a true classic that will have you always rotating it into your CD player. Vintage Maiden people!!! Get this album, and maybe it'll influence you as much as it has to me. It's opened up a whole new world of metal. Forget Korn, Limp Bizkit, Linkin park, and everything like that. This is real 80's metal! Keep it alive Iron Maiden!! Keep it alive!
Free Music Review: SLAVING THE WORLD Hit: 5 Stars
With two highly succesful albums ("The number of the Beast" and "Piece of Mind") and a live show of growing intensity and ferocity, Iron Maiden was the best band of this golden period of Heavy Metal. And while Japan and Europe had already hailed them as the new kings of metal, this album was the one that rocketed the band to superstardom in America. But that didn't happen because the music was softer or the lyrics were catchier, it happened because this is AGAIN one of the finest albums of MAIDEN. The opening track is just the beginning of all. "Aces High" is a perfect opener, with its twisting guitar riffs and drum rythms. Then comes what could easily be the most famous Maiden song: "Two minutes to midnight". Written by the Smith-Dickinson tandem, everything is first class in here: the killer guitar riff, the driving pace, the smart lyrics, the vocal performance. In a recent poll was voted one of the ten best songs in the history of the band. It's followed by an instrumental called "Losfer Words" who has an egyptian kind of feel. The next three songs although were overlooked in it's time are great and any other band would had die to have them in their repertoire. But the other two gems on this record are the last ones. "Powerslave" another classic Dickinson's song, the one that gives the title to the album and also the Tour, is not only about Egyptian pharaons but is suitable for any human being who has ever have some power in his hand. The other gem is an epic 14 minute rendition of the Samuel Taylor Coleridge poem "Rime of the Ancient Mariner". This is in my opinion the best song that Mr. Harris ever wrote. The challenging rythms, the dueling guitar riffs, the changing moods are all top notch. And the vocal performance of Dickinson is incredible, just listen carefully after the mid slow passage when he sings about the curse of the mariner and the rising attack that crowns the coming of the rain. Brilliant. Timeless. Iron Maiden conquered America and the world fell on its knees praising the metal kings. A monstruous world tour followed it. Hundreds of Thousands of kids all around the world who were growing up found it more interesting than Madonna or Culture Club. Now's your turn. Find why.
Free Music Review: UP THE IRONS!!! - Maiden's best! Hit: 5 Stars
I have about half of maiden's albums and out of the ones I've got/heard this is easily my favoiurite. Dance of Death is almost as good, but this has so many maiden classics on it. This was also my 1st maiden album and i bought it after hearing 2 minutes to midnight on GTA Vice City lol. The opening track, Aces High is a great fast rocker and I'd give it a 5/5. As i said, this song was my introduction to iron maiden its one of their best 6/5 Losfer Words (Big Orra) I've never been a big fan of instrumental songs (exept The call of ktulu by metallica) so I'm not sure how to rate this song, it sounds pretty good but i don't listen to it much so you can decide if you like it or not. Flash of the Blade - Another classic, I don't like this one as much as the first 2 songs but it's still reaL good. 4/5 The Duellists- I personally don't ;like how high bruce's voice goes in the chorus of this song but the verses are really good and it has a great instrumental bit in the middle. 4/5 Back in the Village - I was reading other reviews and i saw that this song didnt get any particularly good comments. Well i think it is another stand-out track on this masterpeice of an album. The chorus can get a bit repeditive at times but its still a great song 4.5/5 Powerslave- this is my personal favourite track on the album. I can still remember the 1st time i heard it. i love the way that its got the coffin opening n evil laughing etc at the end of back in the vcillage then some drums that go crashing into the start of this song. buy the cd and you'll see what i mean. 7/5 Rime of the Ancient Mariner - Here we come to the last track on the cd. a 13 minute super- epic. This is another great monster of a song that'll stay stuck in your head for days on end. I would give this a 6 but the only thing that ruins it is the long narrative bit in the middle with just the bassline. I know it's supposed to like give you the fell of the story etc. but its too long and i always fast forward through it. 5.5/5 Well to wrap things up, this is Iron Maiden at their finest and if you don't have it you don't know what you're missing out on.
