Free Music Review: It's IZ, what more needs to be said? Hit: 4 Stars
Since I am not from Hawaii I don't profess to identify with the political and cultural aspects of IZ's music, so all I can really say is that I find IZ's music just plain nice to listen to, especially when its just him and his uke. Need to relax, need to kick back and drift away to the Islands then this will do it for you. Get rid of the pills and pick up a dose of IZ to calm the tensions of the day. Of course you'll have to resist to go out and purchase a one way ticket to Hawaii.....or will you?
Free Music Review: the voice of an angel Hit: 4 Stars
Iz is a beloved treasure to the Hawaiians and to the rest of us (some of whom would like to be Hawaiian.) His voice is pure, his music reflects the Hawaiian culture in the best possible way. We have all his music and feel so bad that there will never be anymore. He is irresplacable. I have friends who live in Hawaii who knew him and who have told me that he was the nicest and kindest man. He was totally down to earth and is truly missed. I like to think that now he is a real angel.
Free Music Review: E Ala E Hit: 4 Stars
The selection of music appears to be for his own people adding to my personal enjoyment and appreciation of the native Hawaiian people. I enjoy listening to all of the tunes in this collection.
The only comment is that the recording engineer used to much gain when recording and I have to reduce all frequencies when playing this and other IZ Discs the I have purchased thru Amazon.
Especially the highs and mids or his voice comes out sort of "tinny".
Free Music Review: Delightful Hit: 4 Stars
As stirring, melodic, and warm as always. Beautifully produced and arranged. Surprisingly, the Gilligan's Island theme, which might seem like a goof, becomes a vehicle for Iz' cultural/ecological message, and fits quite nicely with his others which are powerful but never strident. "Facing Future" is the one to start with, this is a good companion piece.
