Free Music Notes for Pink Pearl

Free Music Review: another winner
Hit: 5 Stars

I found this CD in the used bin and was astounded that someone could sell this. Well, their loss is my gain. Jill Sobule has put out another fantastic record. When I hear the crisp and witty song writing that is characteristic of this artist, I wonder how someone like this could not be popular. These are among the most accessible as well as enjoyable songs out there and yet Sobule remains in relative obscurity. And even writing a song about Mary Kay Letourneau did nothing to increase her popularity. I just hope that there will always be record companies willing to keep releasing Sobule's records no matter what the bottom line.

Free Music Review: Still a great songwriter
Hit: 5 Stars

Jill sobule has always been able to write wonderful songs. Little character sketches and plot twists, like a Borges or Roald Dahl short story in song form, pepper her albums. I'm really happy that while gaining backup musicians and studio production values, she hasn't sacrificed all the qualities that I liked in her previous efforts. The last album was headed out of the "girl-with-a-guitar" territory that she had done so well with her second album, but still hadn't quite left it. I admit I was pretty worried about where it would go, but it seems my fears were unfounded. A good album, and a great relief!

Free Music Review: Jill Rocks Again
Hit: 5 Stars

Jill's music is so hard to classify into one catergory, and it seems she has fans that reach from all different generes from folk to rock to pop... it's hard to NOT find something on her CD that you love. Songs range from tongue-in-cheek fun to very emotionally touching... they'll have you reaching back into your memories and smiling. I hate to say "if you like..." because really, you can't put Jill into a box like that... but my other fave artists are Dar Williams, Ani Difranco, Matchbox 20... really, you just can't go wrong adding this CD to your collection.

Free Music Review: "Pink Pearl" is a real gem
Hit: 5 Stars

Jill Sobule has delivered a collection of songs so diverse in subject and style that they defy simple labels. But that's the beauty of her work. Topics range from "Mexican Wrestler", a ballad about a first encounter with unrequited love, to "Guy Who Doesn't Get It", a country song from a woman to a man who is oblivious to her suffering. "Claire" is reminiscent of Elvis Costello's "Veronica". My personal favorite: "Somewhere in New Mexico" and its quest for faith.

Free Music Review: Jill at her best
Hit: 5 Stars

You must buy this CD for the first and last tracks at least! But I loved nearly everything on the CD. Jill is the kind of artist I never tire of listening to. I can listen to all of these songs over and over and never get tired of them. What's up with the CD being out of stock? Ah well. If you want this CD, I suggest you hie over to www.jillsobule.com and buy it directly from her. Then buy all of her other CDs, they're amazing!
