Free Music Notes for SHOW ME THE BUFFETFree Music Review: Wonderful commedian, great CD Hit: 5 Stars
This CD is simply wonderful. I'm not sure about previous reviews regarding the language but mine is [from] 2000 and doesn't have curses, etc, making this CD suitable for younger audiences. Quite simply put, John Pinette is an astoundingly funny commedian who's humor, even though mostly discussing food topics, does not humiliate himself. The commedy is great, and I die laughing everytime I hear it. I first heard him a few times on Z100's Z-morning Zoo, having to pull over from laughing each and every time, and finally found out his name to get his CD. I wish, I wish that he puts some of the material I heard on the morning show on a new CD (dieting, lettuce cracks, seaweed stuff, personal trainers, etc). Put out a new CD John, I'll certainly buy it! This CD is wonderful though. I'll give you a little more that you don't hear from the clips...imagine it with his accents, etc... "Oh when I hit that water, Oh God! I caused a sounami! People drowned, mothers were grabbing their children. "Where's my baby! Where's my baby!" This is what I'm hearing as I'm crashing to earth!". John, your bits are hilarious and you are a wonderful commedian. I look forward to seeing some live standup and many more CDs to come! I highly recommend this CD!
Free Music Review: The Most Underrated, Funniest Album of the Year Hit: 5 Stars
I first heard and saw Pinette about two years ago on Comedy Central, doing a version of the the Chinese Buffet routine that appears on this album and doubled over. Imagine a routine built entirely around food and weight, not the kind of self-deprication that Louie Anderson used to do, but truly a celebration of the love of food. The Oz Buffet bit is magnificent, in fact there is not a dull moment in the whole album, except for the end, when Big John breaks character and does impressions (the Chipmonks, good, but wrong choice of song, and Elvis, surprisingly good, but both are just out of place). I do have one beef (all puns intended). Pinette seems to feel that he needs to stick in some profanity. He doesn't. He is side-splittingly funny without it. I expect this from Cris Rock and George Carlin. I understand those guys (they do it for different reasons, of course). But, it limits John's audience. This could have been one comedy album that I could have shared with my kids (13, 11 and 9), but now I have to think about it. Should have been a no-brainer.
Free Music Review: Funniest man since Carlin! Hit: 5 Stars
John Pinette is the funniest new comic since George Carlin all those years ago! I do have one question about this CD though. Is it possible there are two versions of this CD available? The one I purchased seems to have been edited somewhat. I first heard a friend's copy and then purchased my own but there are several places where rather mild expletives seem to be missing on my copy. For instance when John complains to his priest about the meat shortage and the priest tells him to "eat a salad", on my friends copy the priest adds "you fat bastard!" but this is missing on my copy. Also the same type of thing happens when John meets Mickey Mouse at the buffet. It doesnt really detract from the comedy but if an edited copy is being sold it should have been clearly labeled as "edited". Still, you have to buy this CD if you love truly original stand up comedy. I can't wait to see John at the Improv in Brea Ca. soon!
Free Music Review: Hysterical! Hit: 5 Stars
I bought this CD in '98 after seeing John in a television appearance. My wife and I put it on before going to bed just to listen to 1 or 2 tracks.
BIG mistake. We ended up listening to the entire disc and then couldn't sleep right away from laughing so hard.
Met John at a comedy club in Columbus and he was very kind to my family, signing autographs and visiting with us for quite a while. No ego or attitude... just a really nice guy. If after listening to the disc you become a fan, please try to see him in concert... his facial expressions and gestures add a great deal to his already riotous routine.
He uses some language, so you'll have to decide about letting younger children listen.
Great comedy from a great guy!
Free Music Review: One of the few great comedians left Hit: 5 Stars
If you have never been to Las Vegas, Disney World, Water Parks, or a large buffet, you will not get the jokes, but if you have, this album is hillarious. I am embarassed to say I have listened to this CD about 20 times all of the way through and am not planning on stopping soon. It never looses its charm and ability to put you in a good mood. I was getting tired of John's old Chinese buffet material, but that is a small portion of this CD. Let's hope John stays healthy and does not go the way of Chris Farley and John Candy.Remember, stay at the salad end of the buffet! "I can eat $2.49 worth of toast!" "The house has lost its advantage!"
