Free Music Notes for In Between DreamsFree Music Review: Sleep Through the Static Will Need 5 and 1/2 Hit: 5 StarsIf you haven't heard this album, and you enjoy mellow tunes with meaningful lyrics, buy, borrow, preview or somehow get your ears near this album. Brushfire Fairytales, On and On, and In Between Dreams are all albums for the ages. I can listen (even to this day, after hundreds of plays) to each one without skipping a track (the only other albums I could say that about are "Fight for Your Mind" (Ben Harper), all of Mason Jennings albums, and Eminem's "The Slim Shady L.P." (yes I have a very eclectic musical taste).
BTW, to address another poster's comment about Jack "making up words" on some previous albums, the term "diagetic", while not in the Webster's dictionary, refers to something that exists in the "diegesis" or the world in which a story occurs. I was in film school (UWM) and this is a term heavily used in the filmmaking world. So, it is a sort of "niche" word, much the same way that the terms "nollie", "hard-flip" "bluntslide", are all real worlds- only they are used solely in the skateboarding world.

ie. non-diegetic element examples would be- voice over narration, the musical score, and any shots that are not actually occurring in the world of the film.
so.... the lyric, "The diegetic world is so unclear" ("The News", from his first L.P., Brushfire Fairytals), actually does make sense. Listen to the song again. Think about it, and you will see. ((hint, the diagetic "world" is the exact opposite of the diegetic elements of a film "story", which, are clearly defined, displayed, and understood by the viewer- what you see is what you get. This world, however is not seen in 90 minute cuts, and is crazy, uncertain, and constantly in flux, and I do believe that anyone reading this can attest to that)). What the heck do I know though! That's only my interpretation; only Jack would know- but knowing him, he would be glad for every person to have "diagetic" mean to them, whatever they want it to mean.
Rock on, and Peace Always.
