Free Music Review: Just when you thought that it couldn't get any better......
Hit: 5 Stars

I really thought that after the 1,000th time I had listened to "Brushfire Fairytales" that Jack Johnson couldn't possibly put a better album together. With incredible songs from the last album that never got radio airplay such as "F Stop Blues" and "Fortunate Fool", one could only hope that the album to come would provide the same result. The album came out just yesterday, and I am already on my 4th rotation of it! I hate to say that it's better than the 1st album, time will only tell. "On and On" continues with the same vibe as "Brushfire Fairytales", sounding like the two may have even been recorded in the same session. The most surprising thing about the new album is that even though there are 16 songs, very few are more than 2:30 long. Here is my review of the album, song by song:

1. "Times Like These" - not as good of an opener as "Inaudible Melodies", but still a great way to get into the feel of the album.

2. "The Horizon Has Been Defeated" - standout song on the album, definitely has the most "vibe" to it.

3. "Traffic in the Sky" - Good song, not one of the better ones.

4. "Taylor" - the 2nd best song on the album. Great instrumental opening, gives the listener a small glimpse as to what seeing the band is like in concert.

5. "Gone" - barely 2 minutes long, nice little diddy.

6. "Cupid" - similar in length and rhythm to "Gone".

7. "Wasting Time" - BEST song on the album! Incredible guitar riffs, sounds like it could be a continuation of "Posters" on the first album.

8. "Holes to Heaven" - nice groove, great lyrics.

9. "Dreams Be Dreams" - great song, enough said.

10."Tomorrow Morning" - starts off sounding distant, then comes in, great bassline.

11."Fall Line" - short but sweet.

12."Cookie Jar" - one of the more minor sounding songs on the album, but still good.

13."Rodeo Clowns" - remake of the original G-Love song, not quite as good, a little more mellow and left out the whistling part at the end.

14."Cocoon" - most mellow song on the album, great to fall asleep to. Reminiscent of "The News" from the 1st album.

15."Mediocre Bad Guys" - very unique sounding, great chorus, and probably the 2nd best song on the album. Saved the best for last. These last two songs almost sound as one, run right together.

16."Symbol in my Driveway" - great ending song, uses the basic blues progression.

Overall, this album HAS to receive 5/5 stars. Again, at first listen, it might even be better than the 1st album. Can't wait to see him live with Ben Harper in July.

Free Music Review: Breezy...
Hit: 5 Stars

Jack Johnson's CDs are not available in my country, but after I heard his latest single 'Sitting,Waiting,Wishing' on the radio I immediately fall in love with his music! ^^ So I borrowed 'On and On' from my friend and since then it's been playing in my cd player every single day.. I just lOVE it! Anywayz, here's my track-by-track review:

1. Times Like These -- it's a great opening track, very mellow.. Kinda sets the tune for the whole album.. 4/5
2. The Horizon Has Been Defeated -- this one kinda sounds like reggae music but it's still fun.. 3.5/5
3. Traffic In The Sky -- one of the best songs.. it's been stuck in my head for quite a while now. =P really laid-back n mellow.. love it! ^^ 5/5
4. Taylor -- definitely the best song in this album! a really catchy song with great lyrics & it's really fun to listen to.. 5/5
5. Gone -- deep lyrics.. really slow n sounds kinda sad. 4.5/5
6. Cupid -- short & sweet! 4/5
7. Wasting Time -- actually b4 i got this cd, this is the 1st song off the album that i downloaded from the net and it's awesome! very laid-back & makes me wanna sing-along to d song.. 5/5
8. Holes To Heaven -- not bad, but it's so-so for me.. 3/5
9. Dreams Be Dreams -- inspiring lyrics,beautiful song.. 4/5
10. Tomorrow Morning -- one of the best songs.. great intro, very relaxing and there's lots of luv in it! =P 5/5
11. Fall Line -- a nice short song.. 3.5/5
12. Cookie Jar -- haunting melody, dark lyrics about d bad effects of TV.. 4/5
13. Rodeo Clowns -- awesome rhythm n kinda upbeat.. but i've heard another version of the song by Donavon in a surfing DVD and imo it's better coz it's faster & more upbeat.. 4.5/5
14. Cocoon -- one of d best.. really sad, deep lyrics, beautiful melody.. what else can u ask for? 5/5
15. Mediocre Bad Guys -- my least fave track on the album.. gets a little annoying after a while.. mediocre.. 3/5
16. Symbol In My Driveway -- it's an awesome track to end the album! i like the waves' sound in the background.. makes me feel like i'm at the beach.. 5/5

You should really pay attention to the lyrics coz it has some stories n philosophy in it.. The depth of the lyrics r really refreshing for this kind of music coz we'll get bored easily if the lyrics suck..

Overall, this is a MUST HAVE CD for anyone who likes accoustic,laid-back music and even better for the fans of surfing culture.. Highly recommended! ^__^V

Free Music Review: Jack Johnson - On and On
Hit: 5 Stars

Where do you put it? All of you who are big Jack Johnson fans have probably been asked the same thing. "So what kind of music does he play?" You respond "Uh, I guess, uh..., I guess it's kind of like surf/folk, acoustic rock, blues, reggae, ska, jazz, and cabana music all intertwined in a laid back atmosphere" (or something along those lines). The fact is, you can't put it anywhere. Jack Johnson had created his own style. His absorption of multiple genres in collaboration with two other musical geniuses Adam Topol(drums) and Merlo(bass) have fused together what I like to call "reflection". It's the type of music you can listen to and reflect on yourself through innovative musical theory and imaginative lyrical poeticism. No the music is not complex. But it's original. And because its not complex, anyone can appreciate it. Two of my favorite songs on the album are "Times Like These" and "Holes to Heaven". "Times Like These" is a song Jack wrote to mock the nature of humans today and how we take things for granted, become self-absorbed, and to become over-prided. He uses basic chord progressions but allures the listener with his talent in deep verse. "Holes to Heaven" gives a somewhat unique twist on perception with the lyrics "there were so many fewer questions, when stars were still just the holes to heaven." Playing on chordal blues scales coupled with pop/folk vocals, Jack Johnson illustrates how he can blend genres. As far his trademark goes, I guess it would have to be his voice, or maybe his guitar style. It's really hard to decide. That's what makes him intriguing. But whatever his trademark is, everyone knows when a Jack Johnson song when they hear one, even if they've heard him only once before. Compared to his first album, "Brushfire Fairytales", you can tell Jack has matured quite a bit, and we will probably be blown away by his new album "In-Between Dreams", scheduled to release March 1.

You can attempt to compare Jack to other artists, Donovan Frankenreiter, Mason Jennings, G-Love, and Sublime, but really he has a sound all of his own. This album is the album for everyone. There is no one who won't appreciate it.

Free Music Review: I could go "On And On" about Jack's 2nd album, it's awesome!
Hit: 5 Stars

"ALOHA!" Just thought I'd give my accolades to this pro-surfer from Hawaii. He's a righteous, dude! I recently bought the 2nd installment of Jack's latest album release "On And On." This is much better than the first one. It's more refined and lively, unlike his ground-breaking album "Brushfire Fairytales," in which it comes-off sounding a little melancholy. This one's a little more upbeat, with songs like "Times Like These," "The Horizon Has Been Defeated," "Traffic In The Sky," and "Symbol In My Driveway" are ambiguous, metaphorical-terms, about Jack's unique-perspectives he shares with the meaning of life. He makes some powerful statements - to scratching the surface - thereby giving credence to some of the problems we all face in the world today: with political-unrest, wars and rumors of wars, pollution in our skies, etc....

With Jack's gentle-percussion in the compositons, and the rootsy/regae-tinge for which he is noteably-recognized for, makes for a pleasant and relaxing album to listen to. It's a solid-piece of work that doesn't have any holes or "filler-tunes" in it. There are some other artists music that you'll listen to, and you'll be thinking to yourself: "the music is all broken-up, with all the extraneous- cacaphony, with no uniform-whole." Jack has lived-up to the reputation as an artist who puts his heart-and-soul into his music. The music on this album is warm and soothing. Just when you thought the music industry was going south - it all of a sudden rose from the dust like a (paradox) phoenix, finding it's place in this "crazy-world," with the [rebirth] of Jack's real music - that's unadulterated - in it's pure-form. I'm one who can attest, he's come to save (pacify) the world from all the insidious-garbage which seems to proliferate the music industry, these days. With his unassuming-demeanor and amicable-personality, he exemplifies what a good artist is all about. He's a force to be reckoned with, nonetheless. I could go "On And On" about Jack's 2nd album, it's awesome!

Free Music Review: Great CD
Hit: 5 Stars

Jack Johnson's On And On is a great CD to just chill and listen to. Has great guitar and vocals throughout the whole CD, not just a few good songs like most. My favorites are Gone, Taylor, Holes To Heaven, and Wasting Time. Also, most of the lyrics on his songs hit deep and actually mean something. I would recommend this album to anyone who likes Ben Harper, John Mayer, or OAR. They all have that mellow and laid back vibe.
1. Times Like These-great song, i love the verses in the song, not a great chourus
2.Horizon Has Been Defeated-great sound, not great lyrics but good to listen to
3.Traffic in the Sky-one of my favorite songs on the album, I believe that many people who wanna mellow out will enjoy this.
4.Taylor-great guitar, decent lyrics, one of my faves and shows a good message if you pick up the subtext
5.Gone-in my opinion the best song on the CD, great lyrics and decent music
6.Cupid-good song not my fav but still good
7.Wasting Time-decent sound but GREAT lyrics i love how he points out "Everybody else"
8.Holes to Heaven-good guitar, good lyrics, good vocals, good bass, and good percussion, all around good song
9.Dreams Be Dreams-like this song because I think Jack shows your part of himself and what he is feeling
10.Tomorrow Morning-starts kinda slow but still a good mellow out song
11.Fall Line-again not one of my faves but still easy to listen too
12.Cookie Jar-nice'n slow
13.Rodeo Clowns-a little more upbeat kinda reminds me more of ben harper with a little less bongo
14.Cocoon-very slow and a nice chorus
15.Mediocre Bad Guys-doesnt sound like typical Jack Johnson but I love the chourus
16.Symbol in my Driveway-good way to end a CD and I think its a nice song
Anyone I have ever entroduced this CD to has loved it. No matter the age, sex, race, or anything everyone from my dad to some of my friends we all love it and I would reccomend it to ANYONE
