Free Music Review: Surf's Up, Dude...
Hit: 5 Stars

Hey there ya'all...Just a quick reminder- summer's on the way... so grab your sun tan lotion and beach towel, load up the cooler with your favorite frosty beverages, heat up the grill and make sure you pick up Jack Johnson's new record because it's time to get the party started!
Jack's back, folks, and he ain't playin' around this time. "On and On", Johnson's sophomore release, is very reminiscent of "Brushfire Fairytales," simple, mellow and catchy... so freakin' catchy that you'll be humming these tunes out loud for days.
Pick this one up and pop it in at your next party or when you're on the porch just chillin' out...either way you and your buddies won't be dissapointed.
All and All "On and On" gives singer/songwriters a reason to say "Surf's up, Dude!" And as for all of you radio junkies out there...if you've been humming along to "Horizon Has Been Defeated" lately, just wait until you hear the rest of the record. Well done, Jack, it just wouldn't be summer without ya', man!

Free Music Review: Another chill cd
Hit: 5 Stars

"Chill, bluesy, mellow, California Surfer acoustic rock" I think that basically sums this album up. it's awsome.
Jack Johnson's first cd is in my opinion, one of the greatest albums ever. And i think it was refreshing to hear acoustic guitars and creativity, because nowadays, everyone plays fast, pop-punk with distorted guitars that just never shut up. Jack's acoustic guitar and mellow voice are relaxing, and it's obvious that he's from hawaii. When i first heard his new cd, i thought to myself, "he did it again". it's a good cd to listen to while cruising down PCH after a good day at the beach.
anyway, this cd isn't really that different from Brushfire Fairytales. It has the same style, but at the same time, the songs are creatively different and aren't just copies of his earlier songs. "taylor", "mediocre bad guys" and "cookie jar" are the best songs on this album.
anyway, i only hope that jack stays true to his style, and doesn't change much, because he's awsome. if you liked Brushfire Fairytales, then buy this album!!!

Free Music Review: An Album to Play "On & On"
Hit: 5 Stars

With artists that are notoriously skilled in live performance, there is a tendency for fans to feel that a production album is more like a rough draft. Not this time. Jack Johnson's new release not only preserves, but heightens the signature ambience of his shows, keeping it flowing "On and On". Johnson uses the studio to his full advantage as he creates imaginative and paradisiac jam extras that won't be experienced acoustically. The album succeeds in displaying an intimacy Jack Johnson has with his music. As the lyrics maintain the enchanting playfulness of "Brushfire Fairytales", there is philosophical, pseudo-political weight to the album. However, have no fear, Johnson does not venture anywhere near the spectrum of trite attempts-to-be-political, like many other artists today. While this album has assumed a more mellow vibe, it has created distance from boring. Through your speakers you will hear studio sound quality, but music that is purebred Jack Johnson.

Free Music Review: the king of the genre
Hit: 5 Stars

I was very skeptical when people kept telling me I needed to check out Jack Johnson's music. Usually, I don't take it as a good sign when the masses flock to something, but good grief, this is a fantastic album.

Lyrically, he touches on some serious themes like in "Holes to Heaven" and "Cookie Jar." However, it isn't preachy or anything, which is a big plus. I also like the minimal instrumentation: acoustic guitar, bass and drums. Nothing flashy or big and fancy. It's like party music with substance. Jack Johnson, while not sounding like Dave Matthews is what I kind of wish Dave Matthews was. Low key instrumentation with some heady subject matter and then a bunch of good time songs.

You can tell from the music that Johnson is someone that grew up around the ocean. It's just so laid back and summertime feeling. You can also hear traces of Hawaiian music in his otherwise original style.

I can't recommend this highly enough.

Free Music Review: On and On is melodic and wonderfully funky folk-rock
Hit: 5 Stars

Nobody does mellow better than Jack Johnson. I'm not sure what it is - maybe Jack's sweetly mellow voice, Adam's conga drumming, or Merlo's incomparable bass grooves - but this band is seriously addictive! The lyrics are simple, but not too simplistic and the tunes are alternately soulful and funky. Jack has said in interviews that Adam (I believe) is into Latin percussion; that influence is definitely felt in their amazing version of "Rodeo Clowns." "Mediocre Bad Guys" is a another great song reminiscent of Neil Young, "Taylor" is a fun track that Jack usually sings at concerts, and "Cookie Jar" is a simmering missive about societal responsibility. "Tomorrow Morning" (presumably written for Jack's wife) is an apology to a loved one for being away so often. JJ's music is great as it can be appreciated on so many levels, depending on one's mood or intellectual inclinations. Thanks to Jack, Merlo, Adam and the Moonshine Conspiracy for another fantastic album!
