Free Music Review: The Future
Hit: 5 Stars

In "On and On" Jack Johnson continues to defend his claim to his seat in the arena of Dave Mathews. Phenominal CD altogether. It felt as if he stepped out of the studo ideology for this CD producing songs that were just as long as each of them needed to be without trying to find the catchy chourus or beat that radio top 10 programmers drool over. Perfectly unspoiled. Every song allows you to close your eyes and propel yourself to a sunny beach in Maui. Provided he continues to produce this quality of music he is on his way to being immortalized in the very same way that DMB is for many. Surfing, Cinemotography, and music were his carrer options. There is no doubt in my mind that he made the right decision. Buy either one of his CD's (or both) and you'll agree.

This is a fantastic album. It is more polished and refined than his first album, and therein lies the rub. Whereas Brushfire Fairytales sounded as if Johnson was coming to terms with music and more serious issues, On And On is more of a easygoing, relaxing album. It is well suited to driving. On the North Shore. With surfboards in the back. And with Pipe 8ft on the sets. The highlights are plenty with songs like Times Like These, Gone, Cupid, Holes To Heaven, Dreams Be Dreams, Fall Line, Cookie Jar, Rodeo Clowns, Cocoon and Symbol In My Driveway all scoring for Johnson. The songs to put on high rotation are The Horizon Has Been Defeated, Taylor and Mediocre Bad Guys, while the songs to be handed down for generations include Traffic In The Sky and Tomorrow Morning

Free Music Review: A gem of a CD...
Hit: 5 Stars

Jack Johnson, despite having a name that everyone confuses (Joe Jackson, John Jackson, Jim Johnson -- let's just call him JJ) has put together an absolutely fresh, charming and thoroughly enjoyable little gem in this CD. 16 songs, most only 2 minutes in length, all with a feel-good groove that's hard to explain. I salute musicians who are able to produce simple but compelling music (like Norah Jones). Nothing here is over-produced. Just a clever (but not too clever) songwriter with a silky smooth voice, hip lyrics, backed with strong and creative acoustic guitar work. This is easily the best CD I've purchased this year. I play it in my car and wait for people's reaction. The music is instantly infectious and everyone asks "Who's this?".

Free Music Review: Excellent Sophomore Effort
Hit: 5 Stars

This was the third Jack Johnson purchase of mine, and it is my personal favorite. A common criticism of his work is that all of his tracks sound the same, but out of his first three albums, this one has the most variety. His guitar style is both soft and catchy at the same time. "Times Like These", "The Horizon Has Been Defeated", "Taylor", "Wasting Time", "Holes to Heaven", and "Tomorrow Morning" are classic tracks.

Overall, the album is both upbeat and mellow. If slower music puts you to sleep, this isn't for you. I could pull up the cliché that this music as great to "chill" to, but this goes without saying if you've ever heard Jack before. If you haven't, however, this is a great place to start.

Free Music Review: Truly an amazing artist
Hit: 5 Stars

I've seen Jack Johnson live in San Diego more times than I can count, and trust me, he always keeps you coming back for more. His sophomore album does nothing less than sparkle, and keeps close to his roots following his debut, Brushfire Fairytales.
"Rodeo Clowns" and the "Horizion Has Been Defeated" gives in to that playful side, but he generally keeps the mood relaxed. Although some songs are a bit serious (Traffic in the Sky) and some are downright depressing (Cocoon), he keeps the heavier subjects light with his mellow voice and soft guitar. But what I TRULY love about this album is that in almost every track you can kick back and feel an ocean breeze and a beach feel that only he creates.
