Free Music Review: " Infectiously happy mellow groove"
Hit: 5 Stars

I just heard of Jack Johnson this week when I received "On And On" as a gift. What a fantastic CD, from beginning to end.The CD
reflects the amazing talent of Johnson as a singer, composer and guitarist. He can really write, sing and play. What I like most is the eclectic mix of pop, folk, jazzy fun groove that Johnson carves out with these slick, crafty little tunes. I use the word "little" only to imply they are too short. I wish each song was much longer. Nevertheless, the disc is so superb, I don't care. My favorite tracks are "Rodeo Clowns", Traffic In The Sky",
"Mediocre Bad Guys", "The Horizon Has Been Defeated" and "Taylor". Johnson reminds me of Jon Mayer, Dave Matthews, Michael Franks and the overall product comes out in such a well done package. I can't wait to get his other discs. In the space of a few days, I just keep playing "ON AND ON". BUY IT!

Free Music Review: It grows on you
Hit: 4 Stars

I bought this CD on the strength of Jack Johnson's single "Taylor". This CD was definitely not a disappointment.

Jack Johnson has a very mellow tone that is very enjoyable to listen to. I was actually kind of surprised by how calming and relaxing this music is. This music is really hard to categorise, because it touches of many different genres. It's all blended together, and I can't really fit it into a category and blatantly label it "rock" or whatever. Sometimes there's even a Hawaiin vibe to some of the songs (which is probably because Johnson is from Hawai'i). I think that's part of the charm of Jack Johnson.

The whole CD is almost completely played on acoustic guitars (so if you don't like acoustic stuff, I would not suggest this!). Jack Johnson is great at writing riffs for guitars, and he has some mad guitar skills!

The highlights of the CD included "The Horizon Has Been Defeated", "Taylor", "Gone", "Cupid", "Dreams Be Dreams", "Holes to Heaven", and "Cookie Jar". Some of the songs are shorter than the average 3 to 4 minute song, but hey, they still sound good, so it doesn't matter.

For me personally, this is a lot different from other things I listen to. (Toad the Wet Sprocket, matchbox twenty, Better Than Erza, Chevelle, etc. has a much different vibe than Jack Johnson!) I think that even if you are used to listening to a "louder" kind of rock, you would still like this album. It's just plain good, so go out and get it! Everytime I listen to this CD, I find another reason to like it. I can't describe how great it feels to listen to "On and On", so you'll just have to buy it for yourself and find out.

Free Music Review: What an amazing CD...
Hit: 5 Stars

Jack Johnson is your surfer guy music. It is laid back and just like going on a vacation to a sunny beach and sitting around. I love his music! This CD is just as great as Brushfire Fairytales; it lived up to my high standards. I am really pleased he stuck with his same sound, because that is what works for him! This CD is amazing and if you like his first CD then you should definitely buy this one. Or if you are just now hearing about Jack you should buy this if you like funky, surfer music. You will be pleased.

Free Music Review: One of the best all around albums ever!

I love this music. I have always been a music lover but none had ever moved and grooved me like Jack Johnson. I play this whenever we have a get together and a lot of people ask me who it is because they want to buy it.

Where do you put it? All of you who are big Jack Johnson fans have probably been asked the same thing. "So what kind of music does he play?" You respond "Uh, I guess, uh..., I guess it's kind of like surf/folk, acoustic rock, blues, reggae, ska, jazz, and cabana music all intertwined in a laid back atmosphere" (or something along those lines). The fact is, you can't put it anywhere. Jack Johnson had created his own style. His absorption of multiple genres in collaboration with two other musical geniuses Adam Topol(drums) and Merlo(bass) have fused together what I like to call "reflection". It's the type of music you can listen to and reflect on yourself through innovative musical theory and imaginative lyrical poeticism. No the music is not complex. But it's original. And because its not complex, anyone can appreciate it. Two of my favorite songs on the album are "Times Like These" and "Holes to Heaven". "Times Like These" is a song Jack wrote to mock the nature of humans today and how we take things for granted, become self-absorbed, and to become over-prided. He uses basic chord progressions but allures the listener with his talent in deep verse. "Holes to Heaven" gives a somewhat unique twist on perception with the lyrics "there were so many fewer questions, when stars were still just the holes to heaven." Playing on chordal blues scales coupled with pop/folk vocals, Jack Johnson illustrates how he can blend genres. As far his trademark goes, I guess it would have to be his voice, or maybe his guitar style. It's really hard to decide. That's what makes him intriguing. But whatever his trademark is, everyone knows when a Jack Johnson song when they hear one, even if they've heard him only once before. Compared to his first album, "Brushfire Fairytales", you can tell Jack has matured quite a bit, and we will probably be blown away by his new album "In-Between Dreams", scheduled to release March 1.

You can attempt to compare Jack to other artists, Donovan Frankenreiter, Mason Jennings, G-Love, and Sublime, but really he has a sound all of his own. This album is the album for everyone. There is no one who won't appreciate it.
