Free Music Notes for Thicker Than WaterFree Music Review: Perfect for the summer party Hit: 5 StarsYes, I did play it at every party this summer. It's a perfect mix. Hip, dreamy, fun, funky, smooth and sweet. Sweet! It's an education to cool music. It's Jack Johnson and the guys on a roll/wave of creating totally great music. I highly recommend this!
Free Music Review: I love it!! Hit: 5 StarsI loved this album more than all of Jack Johnson albums. The combination of other kinds of musical instruments gives it an experimental touch. Very soothing and lovable.
Free Music Review: Good stuff... Hit: 5 Stars"Thicker Than Water," the soundtrack to a documentary surfing film by Jack Johnson, manages to capture the heart of the laid-back beach style, and also the exoticism of the world's beaches that Johnson explores in the documentary (in the same vein as "The Endless Summer.") A slew of artists have been collected to contribute their two cents, and for the most part, it comes across as a nice blend of styles, voices, tones, and rhythms. The music provided seems to float gently over your ears like a breeze off the ocean and keep you captivated like a Hawai'ian sunset.
Johnson's influence is very present throughout the album despite the fact that he only sings on two tracks. Indeed, the album sounds something like a Jack Johnson tribute record, with many artists guesting to capture the same spirit of sunsents and surfboards that Johnson seems to always find so effortlessly. The music is upbeat enough to keep one's interest peaked, although relaxed acoustic guitars definitely dominate the landscape.
Johnson nay-sayers will enjoy the fact that the album shows a little more diversity than his albums are usually known for, and even Johnson's hardcore fans will find the new music different but non-threatening.
The Johnson-G.Love duet "Rainbow" is especially poignant, picking right up where Johnson's "Brushfire Fairytales" album left off.
Free Music Review: Underdog Hit: 4 StarsI found my way to this album under the assumption that Jack Johnson was about to blow me away again with yet another dreamland experience packaged in a compact disc. I should have done my homework.
Here is what I discovered: If you're the John Mayer, pop-culture hungry aficionado, then you might want to pass on this album. Not to discount Mayer and his fans, but this CD isn't songs of love and breathtaking vocals. Rather, it is an instrumental and experimental collection of sounds that is wonderfully mastered by the creativity of Jack Johnson.
I'm not here to say the CD isn't worth buying. In fact, I highly suggest you do check it out even if you are the Mayer fan I referred to before. The first time you listen, you are going to wonder what the heck you just bought. But before long you are mysteriously addicted. Great stuff.
Free Music Review: Love It! Hit: 5 StarsI bought this CD about 3 months ago in a little music shop in the city, because of the surfing influence. Today in the car I put it in the CD player for the third time in a row. I really enjoy the different types of music, it dosn't get old like most "various artists" CD's I own. I have especially taken a liking to Jack Johnson, lovely guitar.
