Free Music Notes for The Glass Passenger

Free Music Review: Great, but not as Great as Everything In Transit
Hit: 5 Stars

I've been listening to this CD for about a week and a half now and more of the songs on Glass Passenger have grown on me.

Crashin and Spinning are great songs to start off the cd. Spinning is classic Andrew McMahon...

Swim is ok, but it is definitely growing on me

American Love -- Really like it, has an 80's feel to it

What Gets You Off - Fell in love with this song as soon as I heard it. Absolutely amazing. Probably have listened to it about 100 times (no exaggeration)

Suicide Blonde - Worst song on the cd

Annie Use Your Telescope - Really enjoy this song as well, has the outer space kinda feel that a few older Something Corporate songs had

Bloodshot - ok song. Not really impressed by it

Drop Out - Very good song... quite catchy

Hammers and Strings - I guess i haven't listened to this song enough to give it a review.

The Resolution - Classic Andrew, very catchy, you can't help but sing along to it

Orphans - not my favorite song

Caves - Didn't really like the beginning at first, but after listening to it more it is very powerful and i love the second half of the song

Miss California - I heard this song a long time ago. Its a good song, sounds like vintage Something Corporate.

Overall, an extremely good CD... Again I dont know what it is about "What Gets You Off" but it already might go down as one of my favorite songs ever

Im shocked! This should be one of the 2008 albums being talked about as one of those albums that not only matters but truly has the power of change, hope and triumph. Honestly, when I see some of the garbage that makes it in year ending lists, it's sad. Anyhow I'm very passionate about this album, Jacks Mannequin out did themselves! Everything Andrew had to go thru(major illness) to get here its breathtaking. This isn't the genre of music I typically listened to growing up by any means. I'll tell you I came upon JM awhile back and then had heard they were coming back and I wanted to hear where they took the music after such a successful album they had in Transit and then with his illness and recovery. Well the message of going thru something negative to get to something positive, is huge. Most of us can relate to this album in different ways and/or times in our lives. The playing on the album is superb to say the least. I love the lyrics, top knotch. This is one of those albums with the right push from the label could appeal to so many people enjoying so many other genres of music. No matter what happens in 2009 and the future for these guys, I thank them for an album that I needed, it was the perfect fit.

Free Music Review: Incredible
Hit: 5 Stars

It's been over three years since the release of the first CD by Jack's Mannequin, the side project of Andrew McMahon of Something Corporate. During those three years, McMahon was diagnosed with leukemia, nearly died from a bout of pneumonia while on chemotherapy, went through a heartbreaking breakup with his longtime girlfriend, and still managed to create an absolutely amazing new album.

Rather than dwelling on the fear and darkness that he was experiencing, The Glass Passenger is infused with a massive amount of strength and hope. He faces the tough times head on and captures his experience of being in the hospital with lyrics like:

"And she sings
My bird dressed in white.
And she stings
My arm in the night.
I lay still
Still I'm ready to fight.
Have my lungs
But you can't take my sight."

McMahon's voice is so filled with power and emotion that he sets the tracks on fire. The Glass Passenger is also full of lyrics that elevate the catchy melodies to another level of awesome. I definitely recommend this CD to everyone!

Free Music Review: Genius
Hit: 5 Stars

Jack's Mannequin has always been one of my favorite bands of all time. I first heard of them on the One Tree Hill soundtrack. The lead singer, Andrew, is a leukemia survivor. In comparison to their first album, The Glass Passenger is definetly a different vibe. Their songs have a lot more depth and the sound is more mellow compared to their first album. I went to the Jack's Mannequin concert soon after the release of this album and the concert was absolutely amazing! One of the best performances I've ever seen. Overall, I think this cd is pure genius.

If you like Jack's Mannequin, you may also like Daphne Loves Derby or Ken Oak Band.

Free Music Review: And I'll Give You This Confession
Hit: 5 Stars

While a departure from their debut Album, Everything In Transit, The Glass Passenger grows on you after a few listens. Each song is carefully crafted to appeal on several highly visceral levels. Starting with "Crashing", Andrew McMahon drags the listener into his world dedicated to the life he lives and his fears of his struggle with death. Each song is tailored in its own way to draw us deeper into the rabbit hole. When we reach "Ms California", we are left to experience the closing of one of the best piano rock albums of 2008. 5/5
