Free Music Notes for Solo Acoustic, Vol. 1Free Music Review: I NEED Volume !! Out NOW! Hit: 3 StarsVolume 1 is GREAT! But I'm an "I want it NOW" kind of guy, I really need to have Vol 2..3..4... released ASAP. There are so many other old songs that I would LOVE to here Jackson sing, "unwired". (and play). Perhaps, "The Only Child, or my FAVORITE, "Sleep's Dark & Silent Gate" on the next volume (if there is one) LIVE, would blow me away. I have been lstening to Jackson since I was 14 years old, (much older now) In good times, but truly more in bad times. He helped me focus on what was "real" in my life. The Live CD is so much more personable to hear a normal Jackson Browne LP. JB. DO IT! WHEN IS VOLUME 2 COMING??? Please! (and thank-you).Just remember Jackson, OLDER songs, please) : )
Free Music Review: A master songwriter unplugged Hit: 5 StarsI've always admired Jackson Browne as a songwriter and singer, but at the same time figured he was probably just a midlevel guitarist and pianist. Boy, was I wrong! On this album he demonstrates a mastery of open tunings, detunings and piano playing that is every bit as original as his compositions. I can't wait for Vol 2...and 3...and 4.
Free Music Review: almost perfect Hit: 4 Starsi saw jackson Browne do an acoustic show a few years ago, and it was one of the best concerts i've ever seen. So i was really looking forward to this cd. And it was really satisfying, until Jackson Browne got to the political parts. It almost ruined the experience for me. If he had left that part out, and just concentrated on the music, this would be a perfect cd. As it is, parts of it sound like another disgruntled LA musician, which is disappointing.
Free Music Review: Feels like coming home. Hit: 4 StarsFor many of us "Boomers" Jackson Browne is one of the voices we hear in our sleep, part of the sound track that runs behind our lives, especially while we try to figure out how we got where we are which is sometimes a long way from the idealism we espoused in those early formative days. Solo Acoustic, for me, brings all that home. Here is a mature-voiced icon singing banner songs. Here is clean, crisp guitar work and that incredibly lean and lush piano, distinctive in its theatricality. Like Mark Knopfler's signature sound, when Jackson starts playing, we know who it is.
Multiple tunings, guitars voiced for one song only, different sizes and shapes, carefully chosen to fit the words and melody, this is more than craftsman-like, this is song-writing AND performance taken to a new level, for which I am grateful.
As some reviewers have noted, the only problem here is that there are only 12 songs and we hope Vol. 2 is on the way. Also, some of the introductions are less than helpful and several aren't all that interesting. Only a couple give some insight to the song that follows. For Vol. 2, take out the commentary and leave it in the studio (unless it will help us understand the music) and give us instead two or three more songs.
Free Music Review: Essential Jackson Browne Hit: 5 StarsI only bought this because I'm a real big fan of Mr. Browne's music. However, this was fantastic. It's up close and personal, I only wish I could be at one of the venues where these songs were recorded. I have rarely heard Jackson Browne comment. He was terrificly funny and charming. His selection of songs, including Peaceful Easy Feeling, was inspiring. I would recommend this to anyone not just fans.
