Free Music Notes for Jaco PastoriusFree Music Review: Decent Album Hit: 5 StarsJaco is undoubtably great, but his declaration of being the worlds best bass player can no longer persist in the Victor Wooten Era
Free Music Review: Flawless Hit: 5 StarsIt is true that jaco pastorious is one, if not the greatest bass player of all time, but i was floored by how great his all around composing is. Continuum has to be the greatest single melody i have ever had stuck in my head. Not to mention the marvelous list of supporting musicians(if you can call them that). You have Toots Thielmans, Herbie Hancock, Don Alias, And a list far to great to encompass here. If you like great music look no further. Although it is a shame i can only give it 5 stars. RIP Jaco!
Free Music Review: The new sound of electric bass... Hit: 5 StarsBefore I purchased the CD, the most influential bassists to me were supposively the greatests of all time, Geddy Lee, Chris Squire. Until I heard this CD, this is Bass like never before, lightning fast fretting. Jaco is argueably the best bass virtuoso ever. This CD also presents a wide spectrum of music genres, from Jazz to Funk, to all out bass solos, and the cast included isn't bad either. It is a classic album, if you like good Jazz or just good music, I suggest you buy it.
Free Music Review: I can't say what someone else hasn't already said Hit: 5 StarsThis is the best bass player who ever lived playing the best music ever composed for bass (and most tracks on the album are composed by Jaco himself.) I cannot stop listening to it. Every time I pop it in, it's a different sound. As a bass player myself I can say that this man has influenced my style even more than the legendary Paul Chambers. There is no sound like Jaco, and there is no album like this.
Free Music Review: The Father of fretless electric bass Hit: 5 StarsAt long last, the stunning debut album by Jaco Pastorius gets the royal treatment by the folks at Sony Legacy. Recorded in 1976 prior to joining Weather Report, it's clear from the first bar that this man is serious business!!! From the opening track, a cover of the Charlie Parker classic "Donna Lee"(written by Miles Davis) featuring Jaco only accompanied by a conga player to the final cut "Forgotten Love",it's very apparent that we're hearing something we've never heard before. Pastorius took the bass from being a support instrument, to front and center, without being tedious or overdone. Other highlights of this album include "Portrait of Tracy", and "Continuum". "Jaco Pastorius" features excellent support from the likes of Herbie Hancock, Hubert Laws, David Sanborn, Michael Brecker and Lenny White. This reissue also features two unreleased tracks that were not part of the original LP. The booklet features rare photos from the recording sessions and has great liner notes written by Pat Metheny. The 24-bit remaster is a tremendous sonic improvement over the original CD issue and the disc label even has the original orange Epic logo on the disc. A first class reissue of a fusion jazz classic.
