Big fans might want the individual CDs or a larger boxed set, but for the rest of the world this is the CD to have. EVERYBODY, should have a James Brown CD. Everybody. This is some of the most groundbreaking, earth shattering, trailblazing music of modern times. Not only is it great fun, but it is also musically significant in the big scheme of things. Historical importance aside, you will undoubtedly look back fondly at some of the good times that just-so-happened-to-have-occurred while a James Brown CD is playing. This review isn't done until we request that everybody listen to Superbad (Parts 1 and 2)(Track 17) a few times consecutively. Wow!

After Chuck Berry, James Brown is possibly one of Rock and Funk's most undeniable forces. This twenty track collection is only a small sample of the sound that is James Brown. Some criticize the repetition found in alot of his music, but this is due to the point that though many of his songs contained conscious elements, he was first and foremost an entertainer that specialized in dance. It can be claimed that not only is James Brown the creator of Funk, he is the catalyst for the obsession with Dance music that continues in several genres of music in America. James Brown's greatness transends genres. He is not only the Godfather of Soul, but the Godfather of modern popular music. His influence can be traced directly or indirectly to almost any popular form of music that has risen in the wake of his career. From hip-hop to jazz to African music to disco, funk, electronica, rock and country there are traces of his DNA coursing through it all. Any song on this collection could have made the career of another artist. This is an exceptional way to investigate this giants work economically. If you want to own just one James Brown disk, here you go. To ignore his work is folly!

Every person can actually hand pick their favorites from any artist and all come out different. This album, 20 All-Time Greatest Hits! is the 20 I would have chosen for my own collection. James Brown's music is probably the most sampled and reused material in all of Black music. As most of these song make you want to dance the night away, hence some of the titles. It does seem as most of the songs are impromptu with a few exceptions. James' band should get credit as well as their unmatched style and talent backed James Brown and these songs we love.Free Music Review: Get on the Good Foot

Whether he's being his bad self, getting on his good foot, searching for some getback, or getting down with his girlfriend, James Brown is hilarious. There's not a lot here musically except for a strong beat and funny lyrics to go with James's noises, but hey, it's James Brown, what else does anyone need? And this has all his hits - and all his noises. My favorite track is The Big Payback. He goes into how he needs some getback and how he doesn't know karate but he does know crazy. It's worth the price of the whole CD.
