Free Music Notes for Live at the Apollo 1962Free Music Review: Bold Statement Hit: 5 Stars
It's is against my nature and better judgement to say something like this but, given the caliber of record that is "James Brown Live at the Apollo", I have to say that I feel it is the greatest live album...ever.
Of course we are discussing a pivotal musical figure and a very distinct style of music- but I think anybody that cares about music would be impacted by this amazing album.
More than just an album, it is an incredible document of something very beautiful in the culture of soul music at this time. Listening to this album time and time again over the years has made me fall in love with the audience as much as I have the music.
I can't reccommend this album enough.
Free Music Review: Great, but don't forget about other soul stars Hit: 5 Stars
This is a landmark album and I greatly enjoy it.Many consider it one of the best live 1960's soul recordings but I think that Sam Cooke's "live at the Harlem Square" is much better. James Brown was more musical but Sam Cooke worked his audience over better.
If you are new to James Brown and want to sample him, start out with James Brown's "20 all time hits"...that is a KILLER cd. You have a great selection of early, funky and more produced James Brown. Early James Brown is very raw and the studio versions are actually more organic/rawer sounding then some of these songs since the instrumentation was much more sparce.
Free Music Review: You've GOT to envy me!! Hit: 5 Stars
Can you imagine hearing this music again for the first time? That's what I did about 6 months ago when I listened to this CD for the very first time, even though I've been a music junkie for years! This has been one of those CDs that has simply grown on me since that first time that I listened to it. There is such a raw, emotional sense of urgency to this CD, which alone makes it an essential purchase, and the songs themselves are great, too. I've known of this CD for years, and I'm kicking myself for taking so long to buy it -- better late than never, I suppose.

Free Music Review: GOOD GAWD! Hit: 5 Stars
BUY THIS ALBUM!!! "Live At The Apollo" is James Brown's 1962 tour de force album that won him popular and critical acclaim. If you're an R&B fan you've probably already heard this amazing album in it's original form. If you want to hear this digitally remastered show in it's entirety (the original was edited for l.p. time constraints)then pick this one up. But even if you are not a big R&B fan this album will knock your socks off! For ten bucks you can't afford to NOT have this album in your collection.
