Free Music Notes for Where'd You Hide the Body

Free Music Review: McMurtrys best IMO
Hit: 5 Stars

If you like alt-country, americana, or just rock n roll, you should really have this record! A great piece of music if you've ever liked the sound of an acoustic guitar, or enjoyed listening to the tale spun by a great songwriter. This is a mostly upbeat album with a few pretty good rockers too (Levelland, Rayolight, Where'd You Hide the Body) and one of the few slow tracks is also one of the stand outs (unusual for me, I usually like the rockers best), Lost In the Backyard is a great mellow stroll though a garden filled with great guitars and lyrics that sketch an outline that will grab you but leave the blanks open for you to fill in for yourself and a sing along chorus that will have you reaching for the repeat button!

Free Music Review: I Agree: JM's Best Whole Album
Hit: 5 Stars

I have more than a couple of McMurtry's records/albums, and while all have moments of truly fantastic writing and performing, this one is one I tend to listen to start to finish, not wanting to skip a thing.

I still believe that "Song for a Deckhand's Daughter" may just possibly be my favorite single track, but this record does something special from the moment the "needle drops" to the last note.

I've bought it once, listened, and listened, and finally lost it, and repurchased again.

That should say something...

FWIW, I can't see the "Southern Rock" or "upbeat" descriptors people have given this CD... to each their own opinion, but this is not either of those things.

Free Music Review: A steller album from a great songwriter - one if his best!
Hit: 5 Stars

This CD is a classic, and there are more where this came from from McMurtry. McMurtry is a poignant storyteller, his gravelly, road-worn voice leading songs that range from roadhouse stomps to contemporary folk tales. McMurtry is a talented poet, has a lot to say and he appears to be never far from his Telecaster, thank God. This CD offers a classic sound, no pretension. And you have to love a guy whose road band is called The Heartless Bastards. GENRES: Rock, Mellow Rock, Americana.

BUY IF YOU LIKE: Lucinda Williams, The Jayhawks, Neil Young.
MUST HEAR TRACKS: "Rachel's Song," "Fuller Brush Man," "Levelland," "Iolanthe."

Free Music Review: Just a Brilliant and Pleasing Piece of Work
Hit: 5 Stars

I don't know If anyone that reads these has not yet heard "McMurtry" sing can understand what we talk about by his story telling. He Is brilliant and deserving of much more fame and attention than he gets.
This Cd Is one of my favorites of his. Yes the songs are all catchy filled with layers of melodic orchestration.
This would be a good CD for anyone to start listening!

OK. I bought this album based on Amazon's recommendation. I had it in my wish list for a long time before I finally ordered. I gotta say I'm not disappointed. The songs on this album strike a chord with me. This album is highly recommended. I'll be purchasing other albums by McMurtry.
