Free Music Review: The One and Only Man

I have seen JT perform live many times over the last 20 years and as he says in this show; he has played the same songs every night for even longer than that, but for us fans they never sound stale or old. His secret comes down to a unique combination of timeless songs, written from real experience accompanied by guitar music that is beautifully harmonic and matched perfectly to his vocal style. So what is it that makes this live performance so special? Well, in addition to all of the above that you come to expect, there are the anectdotes and dry humour that form a greater part of this live performance than any other I have seen. The way the local choir, (which included his wife) was recorded and played as backing to My Travelling Star was a real treat and allowed the audience to feel the deep love he has for his family, his friends and his home. The chronology of his life as a performer - complete with powerpoint, woven into the set takes the audience on a trip through his life that gives new insight to the words in the songs that we thought we knew so well already. My 20+ yo son and his friend watched this with me the other night and both thoroughly enjoyed the entire package that is James Taylor. Truly a timeless performer whose songs will never cease to touch audiences wherever he plays.Free Music Review: If you love James Taylor, you'll be very happy with this retrospective live recording.

Good ol' James Taylor never misses. Here's yet another in the long long line of great albums he's released. If you are a JT fan and have enjoyed his work so far, it is safe to buy this LP sight unseen (unheard?). The only negative reaction you will have (gauranteed) is that it is impossible to put all the great songs on one CD, and so you will find some of your favorites noticeably absent. As it is, the performances on this album are as delightful as any JT fan might hope them to be without being a mirror image of the studio recordings we have all grown to love on earlier discs. He brings an even more gutsy, more raw sound to the blues, and you can almost see him smiling when he sings the old saws that still mean something, like Carol King's "You've Got a Friend," or his own timeless, "Fire and Rain." Even the crowd sounds on this live recording have been made more gentle, less obtrusive, by a crackerjack recording and engineering team. All I can say is thank God he's still recording, because he brings something new to each one of these songs. Now before you huddled masses condemn this all up to another JT "best of"
special. Think again.I have followed James since he was in the Original Flying Machine with Danny Kooch. Have every CD he recorded ,including the imports. But this one is truely different. Yes it has the best of James tunes. But lets think on a different plane for a minute. This was recorded in James's original birthplace town. When you hear the audience listening and applauding for those favorite songs,its like they are tilting their heads saying "wow,he turned out to be a fine young man". You will notice also these are not like the heckling audience that are on his regular Cds. So let us get to the music. Yes he plays mostly with only guitar,but this is quite refreshing.He has a piano player with him also.You can hear through his voice,the years he has been playing,the struggles of his life and he does it all with a One Man Band. Buy the Cd,
it will make you see this man in a different light. His DVD that is included is just as wonderful. Don't worry he will record a new CD,with new tunes. What a Music Review: A Great Night with James Taylor: A Fan's "Must Have"
Hit: 5 Stars James Taylor has been one of the greatest singer-songwriter's the industry has ever seen. For over 40 years, James Taylor has been writing and recording song after song of amazing music. With this "new" [November 2007]live CD+DVD "One Man Band", James leads us through a fantastic journey through some of his greatest, and most beloved songs. To accompany him, James has teamed up with Jazz legend Larry Goldings, who brings a whole new view to some of James' classics. With some of the old such as "You can Close Your Eye's" and "Rockabye Sweet Baby James", some of the new "My Traveling Star" and "Mean Old Man" and some of those gems that live in between, "Copperline" and "Never die Young", this CD bring the listener closer to James' music than one could imagine. Also, you get a glimpse of James Taylors funny, and kind demeanor while he entertains he audience with stories of his travels, and the stories behind some of his most popular hits. To anyone who is a ture James Taylor fan, this is a must have CD+DVD to add to your collection.

To begin with I must say that I am an old fan of James Taylor. I own all his previous albums.
When JT came up with this new release, I almost did not buy it, simply because I wanted new material and not a live unplugged concert. I finally bought it simply to keep the collection complete.
Now that I have it, I must say the following about this album:
1. James Taylor sounds the same 30 years ago if not better.
2. Although the songs are not new, the arrangement in every song is very beautiful, making every track sound as fresh as it can be.
3. If you are new to James Taylor and you begin your collection with this album; it sure is a good start.
4. The DVD concert in this release is surely a big plus; beautifully filmed and the sound is simply perfect.
Bottom line you can't go wrong buying this album; between the musical CD and DVD, surely you will find the money well worth spent.
