Free Music Review: ..And that's all we need, just one man
Hit: 5 Stars

James Taylor was around when I was a kid, singing about Sweet Baby James. It seems like his music has been part of the soundtrack of my life, and I have a recording of almost every one of these songs. James' voice has matured; it has deepened and sweetened as (we) have aged. Each one of these tracks is a pleasure to listen to, lovingly arranged and sung for an audience probably much the same age as I am. There just isn't anyone who can sing James Taylor like James Taylor and this CD is proof.

The DVD is nice, if you want to hear about the ideas for the songs. These songs were recorded at the Colonial Theatre, in the Berkshires. The people in that area consider James 'one of their own' and I don't believe there could be a more enthusiastic OR respectful audience.

There is other footage on the DVD that might be of interest. James has always been 'hands off' about his personal life, but quite honestly the DVD isn't necessary. The music alone makes this worth the price.

Free Music Review: My favorite James Taylor performance.
Hit: 5 Stars

As "One Man Band" is a CD and DVD combo, the best member of the team is clearly the concert DVD. Without new songs to see, the DVD does reveal James Taylor's humorous side. It's very close to having James come over and play a few tunes in your living room. His only accompaniment is Larry Goldings on the piano. James' relaxed and comfortable nature is a joy to experience.

As for the production, the audio is outstanding and well balanced. The video must have been done by a guitarist fan. I have played many of these songs over the years and this DVD could be the holy grail of clues into James Taylor's wonderful techniques. There are numerous close-ups of both hands during each performance.

In short, if you like James Taylor at all, this DVD clearly shows how beautifully balanced and extraordinary his core talent really is. With only minimal help from Larry Goldings, James shares a very special evening with us.

Free Music Review: LOVE this!
Hit: 5 Stars

Two disclaimers to start: I LOVE James Taylor, and I generally HATE "live" recordings.

O-my-goodness. For any JT fan, this CD/DVD is a REQUIREMENT. I've been "with him" since 1970, so I know all the songs. This CD has a great representation of his music -- and the really cool thing about JT is that he ALWAYS performs a song as if it is the FIRST time he has done so. I have had the good fortune to see him in concert three times, the last time this past October. He sang "Fire and Rain" as if it were a brand new song. Breathtaking. I agree with another reviewer that the depth of his experience only adds to his interpretations.

This CD captures his essence, and the accompanying DVD is wonderful -- really relays his low-key, warm, and self-effacing personality in concert.

HIGHLY recommended! You must have this one.

Free Music Review: FIre and Rain,Music for 20th and 21st Century
Hit: 5 Stars

His music accompanied my first love and my first heartbreak and my first venture into portrait painting.
Also my first police detainment at Tanglewood on a Fourth of July a couple of years ago when I was supervising
two kids and two friends and the cops thought that we were inebriated when we were just having such a good
time with the music...ended up a miracle cause they gave us a special place to listen and view the fireworks
and treated us like foreign royalty. (true story)...but James and I both share a love for the Berkshires and a love
for acoustic folk and Appalachian and mountain music and landscapes. I am so happy that he and I both have
endured and his music is still the miracle and loving, humble, exquisite prayer to us to endure and create.

Free Music Review: James Taylor One Man Band
Hit: 5 Stars

I was surprised that the "One man Band" consisted of two people. No big deal. The addition of a keyboard player added beautifully to the guitar.
I was also surprised at just how funny James Taylor is. Each song has an introduction along with a slide show (controlled by JT using pedals at his feet). He gives insight on what the songs are about and how they came to be. He uses prerecorded video of a local choir for the backing vocals of "Shower the People" and "Traveling Star". Perfectly in sync. The other great part is the audio CD that is paired with the video. Of course the music and voice are perfect. The "drum machine" is amazing !! I was given the CD's as a gift and I have been thru it at least 3 times in the last month. I highly recommend it fir the JT fan.
