I have always enjoyed and appreciated James Taylor's talents as a musician. When I saw the program of "One Man Band" on PBS, James Taylor stepped out as a humble, majestic, and down-to-earth spirit. His life experiences swelled like ocean waves upon his songs. I was so amazed and humbled by his stage presence that I was moved to tears for about the first half-hour of the program, and usually, I am not an overly emotional person. His musical talent and down-to-earth, humble way about him are so special :)....I love the cd and the dvd and would recommend it all to those who appreciate James Taylor but really would like to experience his true spirit for it is on stage that he truly comes to life :)Free Music Review: James Taylor performs live and describes his creative process

What a great presentation James Taylor developed for this concert on the DVD. He has a small slide show or discussion before each song explaining where he was and what influences were in his life when the song was written and then he performs the song. This concert is James with a subdued pianist. The auditorium is an grand old concert hall that seemed perfect for this concert. I was thrilled that so many of his famous songs were included. Music performed by the original artist in a unique and wonderful presentation. Even the "out-takes" included on the DVD were entertaining. The CD is an abridges version of the same concert. All the music is there but much of JT talking between songs is abridged.Free Music Review: JT does it again!

Being a fan of JT since 1967 when his first album with Apple Records came out, I could already see (or hear) that he was going to have a long and productive career. And I was right. Being a Scottsman and performing songwriter myself, I seem to have an affinity for his work that I never tire of. Although we always get the hits from him in all his live material, hearing them again in such an intimate setting brings them back to life in new ways. If you've ever tried pulling off a solo show in front of an audience of any size, you would see that it's not as easy as it looks. And JT does it with seeming ease. What a pro. James Taylor is one of the definative singer/songwriters around and has created so much memorable music that he is really a legend at this point. This set provides us insight to the legend.
He provides a steller live concert with variations on his songs that breath a different light into them and shows his creativity. For someone who wants a selection of his songs as they are well known another collection would be something that they should look for - a Greatest Hits.
But if you have an interest in the creative aspect of music, want a good live recording or are a fan of his music, the is a must to have.

I was lucky enough to catch James on his "One Man Band" tour in at the Orpheum in San Francisco last year and it was an extraordinary night for me and my girlfriend. We were probably the one people under 30, but it was marvelous none the less. It was my first time seeing JT live and he was amazing. Now that it has become available in a dvd/cd set is a dream come true. Now I can relive that magical night again and again. If you missed the tour now is your chance to see JT at his best. What an amazing performance. Thanks JT for making this available. I would have paid twice as much as what Amazon is asking, but don't tell them that.
