Free Music Notes for One Man Band [CD + DVD]Free Music Review: Probably James Taylor's best CD/Album Hit: 5 Stars
I have most, if not all, of JT's CDs. This is my new favorite. The DVD is much preferred over the CD. The songs are the same, but the CD is missing his anecdotes and the history of each song that he gives on the DVD. Because of JT's exquisite abilities on the guitar, he really only needs a piano to make truly wonderful music. He is backed up by a choir on two songs, but they are videtaped and you can view them on a video screen behind James. He also uses this to show pictures during all his other songs. An absolutely flawless performance. This will be a classic.
Free Music Review: The DVD is wonderful Hit: 5 Stars
The DVD captures a wonderful concert by JT. You've heard all of the songs before, but there's something special about the atmosphere that the small theatre in Pittsfield, MA brings to the proceedings. JT is warm and affable and very funny. There's a confidence and ease about him, mixed with real joy and humility in sharing these songs with the audience. If only we all could find such grace with age. I love the CD, but all the more because it reminds me of the event captured on the DVD. This would make an excellent gift--to any JT fan, including yourself.
Free Music Review: If you can't get to a live show, this brings it to you. Hit: 5 Stars
This collection is a great archive of what it is (was) like to attend a James Taylor concert - except that it is better - since you can replay it as much as you want! I have seen James Taylor 3 times in Tanglewood and two times in other larger venues (Nashville and Dallas) over the last 6 years or so and this show is similar to the Tanglewood shows in that it is right in his backyard - although it us much more intimate and up-close. I miss the band, and the backup singers, but there are other DVDs (also great, and in my collection) for that! A+.
Free Music Review: A wonderful joy! Hit: 5 Stars
This DVD is an absolute joy. The more I watch it, the more beautiful it becomes. James might just be an angel from heaven, here to comfort a turbulent generation. I am always soothed by his heart-felt songs full of multiple layers of meaning, suggestion, hope, love, and triumph in spite of everything. He has always seemed to me, somehow, like a beloved neighbor or family member, who is simply completely, totally made of music. I'm deeply grateful that he created this beautiful masterpiece keepsake for the ages.
Free Music Review: So pleasant Hit: 5 Stars
This is my first cd of James Taylor's music. I love the simplicity of the soundscape - just plain ol' great songs sung and played in the most delicate and enjoyable way.
This man is a great singer/songwriter, and on top of that his guitar picking is refreshingly skillful.
My favourite tracks from the cd are 'The Frozen Man', 'Country Roads', 'Shower The People' (wonderful, wonderful song and version), 'Sweet Baby James' and of course 'Fire And Rain'. All in all - a real treat!
