Free Music Review: Jamie Foxx Intuition
Hit: 5 Stars

I love the cd. I purchased Jamie's first cd and really liked it, too! Can't wait to see where he goes in the future!

Free Music Review: "I Don't Know" why. She keeps on passin' me by. Maybe her eye is just on some other guy and I'll forever be her fella on the..
Hit: 4 Stars

I knew that Jamie Foxx had released a CD in the past entitled Peep This but it was hard for me to take a singing career from a comedian seriously. The last time around, Eddie Murphy wanted to sing about his girl wanting to "Party All The Time" with Rick James. The song ended up being a comedy instead of something that anyone in their right mind would take seriously. However, when I heard the title track to Jamie's 1st CD on J Records entitled Unpredictable, I finally had to take notice. The track was a midtempo jam featuring Ludacris that was being played on the radio and in the clubs constantly. Once the CD was released, I was surprised that I liked the majority of the CD. It was obvious that the "Three Letter Word" was the theme of the CD, but I took the CD for what it was and it was in heavy rotation along with Mary J. Blige's "The Breakthrough" and Anthony Hamilton's "Ain't Nobody Worryin'" for awhile. My favorite songs included "With You" w/Snoop Dogg & The Game, "Can I Take You Home", "Wish You Were Here", and "Extravaganza" w/Kanye West.

Eventhough, I liked "Unpredictable", I was still reluctant to purchase "Inuition". Jamie definitely impressed me on Ne-Yo's remix to "Miss Independent", "She Got Her Own", which also featured Fabolous. However, I wasn't impressed too much with the 1st single, "Just Like Me". The track sounded entirely too much like "Touch My Body" from Mariah Carey, which was another track that I wasn't a big fan of. What eventually changed my mind was when I heard the party banger "Blame It" featuring T-Pain. Don't get me wrong, I have never been a T-Pain fan. However, he definitely represents on the hooks. This time around, he isn't even featured on the hook but his verse as he pays homage to The Dream takes this track to another level. Once I heard "Blame It", I knew that I would add this CD to my collection. "I Don't Need It" is a catchy tune that is produced by Timbaland and sounds as if it could have been a song that was left off of Justin Timbalake's "Future Sex/Love Sounds" CD. This track will definitely have you dancing and Jamie's lyrics will have you laughing at the same time. "Number One" is basically Just Blaze's r&b version of TI & Rihanna's "Live Your Life", which Just Blaze also produced. I have heard better songs and the usage of The Beastie Boys' song "The New Style" should be against the law, but if you are in a club, this track will definitely get the party started or keep it going. I have heard better Lil Wayne verses but you're so busy dancing or doing a 2 step while the track is on, you forget that this is an elementary Lil Wayne verse. Jamie, Kanye & The Dream will keep you dancing and partying on "Digital Girl". The song is very catchy and Kanye gives you 2 verses in the song, which is another uptempo club jam. Salaam Remmi, who has several production credits to his name, including work with Wyclef Jean, Nas & Amy Winehouse, stops by to produce my favorite song on this CD as of this moment "I Don't Know". If you are a man of any age you will be able to relate to the scenario in this track as a young lady has caught his eye and he isn't able to attract any attention from her at all. He has to think of What If? type scenarios if there ever was a chance for him and this beautiful woman to be together. Jamie goes back to the "Three Letter Word" on tracks such as "Weekend Lover", "Freakin' Me" w/Marsha Ambrosius of Floetry, "Slow", "Rainman" and "Overdose". The best of those being, in my opinion, "Weekend Lover" and "Slow". Jamie tones things down on the midtempo "Why" as he reminisces about a lost love and on "Love Brings Change" as he talks about how the average man/woman can be affected by a new love.

Overall, if you take "Intuition" for what it is for face value, I think that the majority of Jamie Foxx fans and current r&b listeners will like this CD. If you are an old school r&b purist, like I can be at times, then this may not be the CD for you. You may want to preview some tracks first before you decide to add this to your music collection.

James' Top 5

Free Music Review: Another Strong Foxx Effort, Though Falls Short of 'Unpredictable' - 3.5 Stars
Hit: 4 Stars

INTUITION is the follow-up to Jamie Foxx's multi-platinum 2005 effort, UNPREDICTABLE. While INTUITION isn't quite as sound as its predecessor, it is a very enjoyable album. On INTUITION, Foxx makes more concessions to contemporary R&B and hip-hop, hence showing that he wants to stay relevant. True, Foxx is no "young boy" in the R&B world, but his voice and his persona sells itself in my eyes. As always, Foxx always surprises vocally, and INTUITION is no different, flat spots or raging hot spots.

The albums opens with the brilliant "Just Like Me" featuring T.I., which is equally as strong as 2005's mega #8 hit "Unpredictable". The production work and songwriting by The-Dream and Tricky Stewart (I think) are sick as always, and Foxx is vocally on fire. T.I.'s performance is top-notch as well, making for a solid opening statement. "I Don't Need It" is produced by none other than Timbaland. Solid and enjoyable, though not as effective as "Just Like Me". However, none can deny the catchiness of the hook "B**ch, I don't need it", even if it is incredibly corny. But, that's our Timbaland, isn't it?

"Number One" featuring Lil' Wayne is more enjoyable than "I Don't Need It" with its sick production work by Just Blaze. Lil Wayne may be the best part of the track, though Foxx is great too. "Digital Girl" featuring Kanye West & The Dream is solid, though forgettable in comparison to "Just Like Me", "I Don't Need It", or the blazing "Number One" that precedes it. It is enjoyable enough, but the T-Pain featured "Blame It" easily steals the show and reshapes the lost momentum. "She Got Her Own" featuring Ne-Yo and Fabolous is a bit lengthy, but I think that the overall performance and songwriting is impeccable. Again, Shaffer "Ne-Yo" Smith writes another potent song.

After a pointless interlude ("Intuition Interlude") Foxx gives another convincing vocal performance on "I Don't Know". The production is soulful laden (given the soul sample) making for another solid performance. A couple of tracks follow that are solid or merely average ("Weekend Lover", "Why", and "Freakin' Me" featuring Marsha Ambrosius of Floetry). "Freakin' Me" is a bit better than the former two, but it still falls short of the best. "Slow" is lengthy, but resurrects the energy of INTUITION, while "Rainman" is 'take it or leave it'. The album ends strong with numbers "Overdose" and the fine "Love Brings Change".

Despite the concessions to contemporary R&B, Foxx isn't always 100% effective is making INTUITION near as coherent as his Grammy nominated UNPREDICTABLE. What Foxx does do well is that he still manages to make INTUITION one of the more enjoyable R&B albums of 2008, particularly where some albums have fallen flat. Not perfect, but above average in my eyes. 3.5 stars.

Free Music Review: Jamie Foxx - Intuition
Hit: 4 Stars

Jamie Foxx made his fans wait a long three years for this album. And coming off the huge success of his break through album Unpredictable, there was quite a bit of anticipation for this album. But Jamie switched it up a bit with this album compared to his last. Intuition has alot more up tempo/radio friendly tracks than Unpredictable did, but Unpredictable has alot more romantic/bedroom friendly songs. But both albums have a pretty reasonable balance of slow tempo and party tracks. The one thing that hasnt changed is that Mr. Foxx still has an amazing voice. And The Dream, who handles the production on most of the tracks on Intuition with five of the albums 15 tracks being produced by him, which works sometimes, like with the happy go lucky first single "Just Like Me" which pushed this albums sales up, despite it not being a huge single, it still made a dent on the charts. And then on the baby making slow jam "Slow", again produced by the Dream with its echoing softness, we get to hear Jamie at his best vocally. "Slow" will definetly make any late night affair alot more passionate, as Jamies hazed vocals drip like honey over the banging beat. And then on "Overdose", the ballad about lost love produced by the Underdogs, we get to hear the Unpredictable Jamie Foxx again, as most of his last album was produced by the Underdogs to. "Overdose" is my favorite track on the album so far, because its where he sounds the most comfortable and he really captures the heartache in this song with his smooth vocals. And then there's the weekend affair anthem, "Weekend Lover" which sounds like a typical mid tempo Jamie Foxx R&B track, which stands out as well. And one funny thing about this album is that one of the best songs is the 1:49 seconds long "Intuition Interlude". Even though the song is really short, he still really sets a grown and sexy mood for the second half of the album with this track. But other than that, alot of the rest of the album is up tempo/party/radio music, similar to the huge club hit about alchohal influenced cheating "Blame It". Overall, Intuition isnt going to win any awards for R&B album of the year, but it serves Jamie Foxx fans with another healthy helping of his grown and sexy R&B, even though there are some obvious attempts to capture some radio airwaves, it never really detracts from the overall appearance of the album. As long as Jamie Foxx still has his amazing voice, im sure he will be able to give us good R&B music...He made us wait long enough though...lol

Free Music Review: More dance tracks, less romance
Hit: 4 Stars

Cons: I loved "Unpredictable," so I was expecting that same wine and dine romance to lap dance feel, but this album was more about dancing. Foxx has a beautiful voice, but it seems like he was impersonating someone else on "I Don't Need It," which wasn't really necessary. I hate the concept for "Just Like Me" because I'm so opposed to even the idea of singing about justifying cheating, but the video is funny as hell. Taraji Henson was the best choice to do that one, so that video makes me (kinda) like the song. "Number One"s beat was kinda annoying, but I liked the clap-friendly perspective of the song. Somehow I didn't expect Jamie Foxx to work with Lil' Wayne though, so that threw me. But then I hear lines from Foxx like "Got them hundred dollar bills/Girl, I don't rain/I hurricane" and it almost sounds like a singsongy rap. Noooo! Not another one. I like R&B singers that like to do R&B. What's up with Kanye West singing most of the verse to a T-Pain track on "Digital Girl"? "Blame It" sounded like it had a vocoder, but why? Foxx is robbing us of his natural and beautiful voice. I found him using a lot of simplistic lyrics, downgrading his voice a lot on this one, and how unfortunate is that because I'd buy an album from him easy in acapella.

Pros: I would've bought this album regardless because I love "She Got Her Own" and considering that wasn't a bonus track on Ne-Yo's album (you had to buy it on iTunes to get it), I had to have it. You couldn't even buy it as a single, and that song makes my spirit happy. That is absolutely my favorite song of 2008. I gave this CD four stars though because once you got to "Intuition Interlude," then he reminded me of the songs on his last CD and this album picked up immensely. I like those Foxx tracks that make you want to just reach over and hug your man for no reason other than being happy he's there.

One month later: Now that I've gotten over the surprise of Foxx's CD having a hip hop swagger with R&B soul, I really dig "Number One," "I Don't Need It" has an easy dance feel, and "Blame It" kinda grew on me. But I still say the songs after the interlude are far better, specifically "Overdose" and "Slow."
