Free Music Notes for Unpredictable AlbumFree Music Review: Very Good Album, 3.5 Stars Hit: 4 StarsThere are very few singers that are actors that have a true singing voice or the possibility of having a credible career in the music business. Jamie Foxx already proved that he might be able to buck the trend when he lended high profile vocal performances on two number one hits - first on "Slow Jamz" from Twista's 2004 album KAMIKAZE (that track also featured Kanye West) as well as the ubiquitous 2005 hit by Kanye West "Gold Digger". After a solo album in the 1990s, Jamie Foxx is serious about pursuing music with his album UNPREDICTABLE, which turns out to be a very good release. That of course, isn't to say that UNPREDICTABLE is the "second coming" where R&B music is concerned, but it is a very good release.
For the first thing, Jamie Foxx obviously has a much more mature voice than other actors turned singer. This is much to be attributed to the fact that Foxx attended college on a music scholarship. Furthermore, being a pianist, Foxx has a better since of pitch than those singers that don't play any specific instrument besides their voice. In further regard to his voice, he easily trumps the easily dispensable actress/actor turned singers such as Ashlee Simpson or Lindsay Lohan. Furthermore, Foxx for the most part stays on pitch within the album, with only the few slightest falters. Also, there are some genuinely great moments on UNPREDICTABLE where Jamie executes exceptional use of falsetto, inflections, and nuances within his voice/vocal performance. The best part of UNPREDICTABLE, then is Foxx's vocals.
UNPREDICTABLE has some great tracks that could easily be genuine hits (as second single "Unpredictable" is already proving to be on radio) and other that drabble too much on one topic- "S-E-X", as Foxx best says himself in the obviously disguised title "Three Letter Word". The best moments on UNPREDICTABLE are the title track itself, which features Foxx at his best as well as a very strong collaboration with Ludacris. "Extravaganza", the underrated first single from UNPREDICTABLE also shines brightly
With a slightly subdued vocal performance by Foxx when an excellent falsetto by Foxx at the end. The other exception track is "Can I Take U Home", which feature a silky smooth solo Foxx performing. While those are the best, the rest of the tracks on the album are rather good as well. There is an oddity within the track "With U" which is a track that features Snoop Dogg and The Game. It is a track that has to grown on you because it isn't your standard production job.
One flaw with UNPREDICTABLE is the fact that there may be one too many collaborations. For the most part, the collaborations are fine, but Foxx doesn't always need the collaborator. For example, in "DJ Play That Love Song", Twista's rap is fine, but it isn't really needed in the least. For the most part, none of the collaborations detract from the ultimate effect of the album, as some do. The biggest complaint about some of the other tracks aside from the above mentioned best listens are that those tracks may grow the slightest bit too urban. That is a problem with some urban albums that they are so well produced or so slickly produced that they come over as too urban. With that said, on a positive note, one of the best production credits goes to Ying-Yang Twin producer Mr. Collipark on "Warm Bed" where he features a very bass heavy piece of drum programming.
Overall, the verdict for UNPREDICTABLE is that it is definitely an above average album. There are more good and positive things occurring within UNPREDICTABLE as opposed to bad, which is always a plus. For me, I think that this is a 3.5 star album, period.
