Free Music Notes for Jane's AddictionFree Music Review: Please allow me to introduce myself... Hit: 5 Stars
It's kinda hard whethor to call this their first album or their first live album. Kinda like how the Rolling Stones didn't put their name on their first album Jane's Addiction releases a live album before they realease any studio album. The way the album feels and the way it looks have all the influence of an underground club band. Since this ironically being one of the last albums I bought that was Jane's I'm not sure if I could reccomend this to everyone just starting to collect all the albums. (Honestly the first Jane's album I got was Kettle Whistle) Also their version of "Symphony for the Devil" is ten times better than what the Rolling Stones did.
Free Music Review: Live, Raw, Unstoppable Music from A Band Who Will Never Die Hit: 5 Stars
For those unfamiliar with this release, it won't let you down. The two covers (V Underground and R Stones) make the songs all their own and the rest of the material provides a tasty treat of what was to follow. "I Would For You" is the quinnesential love song for me...recorded in '87, this album showcases a band who at the time, gave Gn'R a run for their money as the most rocking band to come out of LA. JA is my favorite band to this day, and this album gives something the other two couldn't, which is the flavor of their live energy. Listening to it, you'll be a pig in zen.
Free Music Review: Jane's in the raw, incl. some tracks of unparalleled beauty Hit: 5 Stars
This album is worth the price alone for "I Would For You," the haunting and moving ballad with just Perry Farrell and bassist Eric Avery. "My Time" is a deeply satisfying rocker complete with Perry on harmonica. "Rock 'n' Roll" and "Sympathy for the Devil" have the rare distinction of besting the original cuts by Lou Reed and the Stones, respectively. I could do without "Pigs in Zen," "1%" "Jane Says" and "Whores," some of which reappear on Nothing Shocking in superior versions.
Free Music Review: Strays, Huh? Hit: 5 Stars
I understand that the new Jane's Album is fantastic for what it is...but ahh why the caveat? Live, Shocking and Ritual, that's why! Listen to this album to hear Jane's for what they truly were. The glory of down and dirty rock neo-punk, an orgy for the ears. It oozes a dirty sexuality that you fear but cannot ignore. This disk has it all. Ladies and Gentlemen this is it. The real thing. When you realize that this is recorded in 1986-1987 you will understand how ahead these guys really were. Bring Back Eric Avery!!!!!
Free Music Review: Oh, baby, I'm so tired... Hit: 5 Stars
That line right there sums up my emotional state. I'm tired of rap-rock, I'm tired of watered down "alternative rock," music in general wears me down. But not Jane's addiction. This was the last of their cds that I bought, but one of the best. They must have been incedible live. "I would for you" is probably one of the most moving songs I've heard. Sympathy, though performed as a joke, still rocks. Jane Says is better than the sudio (though not Kettle whistles). Just a great cd.
