Free Music Notes for Nothing's Shocking

Free Music Review: It's their 2nd best CD but still a must buy
Hit: 5 Stars

I really didn't like this CD when I first heard it. A friend of mine was "addicted" to it (no pun intended) but I couldn't figure out why. Eventually I caught on. This is where the world is really introduced to the eccentric Perry Farrel and and unbelievable guitar work of Dave Navarro. Of course, Steven Perkins and Eric A are great, too. Ted just Admit it is my favorite song here and is the "epic" song on this CD which runs over 7 minutes with multiple tempo changes and mood swings. Summertime Rolls is the most intense song with a catchy bass line (similar to the opening bass on Up the Beach. This CD was really a breath of fresh air. I still love it and although I think Ritual is a little better there are few CD's better than this. Interesting cover, too!

Free Music Review: best hard rock album of the 80s ?
Hit: 5 Stars

There's no 'Three Days' here, but overall, this is not only Jane's best album, but one of the best hard rock albums of the 80s. Nevermind the funk/metal/punk labels, Nothing's Shocking twists, turns, and cooks from start to finish as one song segues into the next. The album is loaded with guitar cuts, rolling basslines (esp. 'Mountain Song), frequent shrieks from Perry, and Of Course Steve Perkins' fantastic thrasy/jazzy/tribal drumming technique. Flea, and Chris Dowd & Angelo Moore of Fishbone help the band on 'Idiot's Rule.' Every song wails except maybe the one minute interlude "Okay Boys" toward the end of the album- which only serves as a chance for listeners to take a breath before the final bomb drops. Into Led Zeppelin? Guns/Roses? Pumpkins? You'd better own this record.

Free Music Review: Where would I be without this CD
Hit: 5 Stars

I was 23 years old going no where fast in my musical food chain when a friend FORCED me to listen to some unknown group (to me) called Jan's Addiction. (I think I'd just bought the new Eric Clapton CD at that time, so you have an idea of where I stood musically).

Perry's voice was immediately grating but not intolerable to me (I learned to absolutely cherish it). The music took me to another planet. I can't even imagine how many times we played TED JUST ADMIT IT or SUMMER TIME ROLLS. Always loud.....

The whole "alternative" rock scene ignited from these guys, Nirvana just added the gasoline. I feel sorry for those who don't understand the power and importance of this recording. You are really missing out on something special.

Free Music Review: better than RDLH
Hit: 5 Stars

In my opinion I found this album to be better than ritual de lo habitual. I own both and are both very amazing. Nothing's Shocking has a very solid list of tracks and never let out where as RDLH is more experimental and tends to be drawn out at times by Perry's voice. Not to discriminate or offend anyone, but this is just how I feel. Janes definitely is still rockin even to this day. I suggest everyone buy Strays becuase it shows how good a band can be. It focuses more on environmental issues and solid alternative rock rather than being drawn out by vocals that can only be understood by ppl with artistic knowledge. Back to this review...very good, worth every penny and u will find urself repeatedly popping this cd into ur stereo or walkman.

Free Music Review: Never To Be Outdone
Hit: 5 Stars

This is one of the few albums I can say 'saved my life'. Any fellow audiophiles out there probably have a handful they can agree with me on, and this is one that sits in that bunch for me. It's an outrageously ballsy album that came completely out of left field in the 80's. To this day, it still pumps me up and gives me an adrenaline rush. Although I'd love to see the disc get a nice remastering to pick up the volume in the mix (a la 'Downward Spiral' for example), Perry and the boys never topped this disc as far as I am concerned. It's ambitious, obnoxious, controversial (on the cover alone, not to mention some of the lyrics), and amazing. This is one of of the all-time greatest heroin-fueled albums in rock history. Two thumbs way up.
