Free Music Notes for DisciplineFree Music Review: Janet Could Use a Little More Discipline Hit: 3 StarsJanet,
I do LUV U and there is a lot I like about this album, but listen to me. I'm your friend and your friends should always be honest. I'm here to give you a little discipline.
1. Axe the interludes. They are interesting for the first listen or two, but they are essentially filler. There is a reason why people throw away the packing foam peanuts after they get a present -- they want the actual object in the box, not the non-biodegradable stuffin's.
2. Get your head out of your va-jay-jay. It worked for "janet" and it's been downhill from there. There is more to the world than getting laid. The bondage look and title track aren't extreme enough to appeal to real S&M afficianados and I'm not sure they would be of interest to the vast swath of America. I don't think people were really buying it during "The Velvet Rope" and I sure as heck don't think they are buying it now.
3. Not unlike "Damita Jo", "The Velvet Rope", "20 Y.O." and "All for You", this album has many pop/dance/r&b pleasures. What it shares with all of those albums is an unwieldy length and a lot of chaff with the wheat. Hip-hop is not your strong suit, girl.
4. To prove that I'm generous, I'm going to tell you that I love me some "LUV", "Feedback", "Rock With U", "So Much Betta" and "The Greatest Ex". Keep that good stuff coming!
5. I was nervous about you leaving the Jam-Lewis collaboration -- the results aren't bad, just not as exciting as they could be. How about you step out of the same ol'/same 'ol R&B producer mix and get with some real pop/dance producers. Clearly you are in a rut on the last several albums and the formula essentially seems to get re-shuffled. Don't make me spank you.
In summation, Janet, I do LUV U and that's why I care. If anyone can turn this ship around, it's you. I'm not looking for you to repeat your "Control", "Rhythm Nation" and "Janet" heyday. Embrace your pop diva roots (note that your last huge hit was "All For You" which was essentially a dance club/disco jam) and ditch the sexed-up, hip-hoppy R&B that has been bogging you down. Get a little fun on us!

Free Music Review: Discipline is the best since The Velvet Rope!! Hit: 5 StarsALL I CAN SAY IS THAT JANET DID HER THANG ON DISCIPLINE, SHE SOUNDS ALOT LIKE MICHAEL JACKSON ON ALOT OF THE SONGS. DISCIPLINE HAS ALOT OF #1 HITS IF THE RADIO WOULD QUIT IGNORING THE SONGS. FEEDBACK SHOULD HAVE BEEN A #1 HIT ON THE HOT 100, BUT IT MADE IT TO #1 ON THE DANCE/CLUB PLAY BILLBOARD CHARTS. DICIPLINE IS AN AWSOME ALBUM IT IS MUCH BETTER THAN E=MC2 AND HARD CANDY PUT TOGETHER. JANET MUSIC HAS SUBSTANCE WHERE THE OTHER ARTIST DON'T. SHE DID NOT HAVE TO HAVE SOME ONE ON HER TRACKS FOR IT TO BE A HIT. JANET & MICHAEL JACKSON ARE THE "GREATEST ENTERTAINERS AND PERFORMERS OF ALL TIMES" NO ONE COMES CLOSE TO THEM.!!
Free Music Review: Old Janet renewed Hit: 4 StarsJanet goes back to the influences se had back to the 90's but has renewed her music completely making this album up to the acclaimed "The Velvet Rope". Despite this fact some parts of the album may be a little bit monotonous (even so, good songs). Let's see if all the songs she releases as singles work well.
Free Music Review: Heard It All Before :-( Hit: 2 StarsI've been a Janet Jackson fan forever and must say that I was very disappointed with this release. I will continue to support her but this album as a whole was a major let down. Before its actual street date, 'Feedback' 'Rock With U' and 'LUV' gave promise that this album would be her return from the awful "20 Y.O." and the underrated "Damita Jo" eras, but it failed for the following reasons:
1. The Writing: Janet Jackson penned NOTHING on this album. The "Control" album solidified her work ethic and career for having hands-on in everything that she did musically, including masterminding tracks along with long-time collaborators Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis, but like Jam & Lewis, that key element is missing from the album. The lyrics are laughable at times for an over 40-year-old woman.
2. Production: While she cooed how there were many producers willing to work with her and give her 'classic Janet' tracks, nothing is very classic to me on this album. Clearly these young guys she hooked up with in the studio didn't really follow her career much to know what her music signifies (with the exception of Ne-yo and Rodney Jerkins). It was a very paultry effort to keep her music 'current' especially with the slow songs ('Can't Be Good' one of the few exceptions).
3. Direction: The album is far from cohesive. The whole futuristic vibe and the Kyoko talking robot which is very TLC's "Fanmail" with Vicki-i is redundant and boring and unnecessary. Clearly she just recorded some songs and what she liked went on the album and what she didn't got tossed. What happened to the days when she put together actual projects and concept albums?
The album is titled "Discipline" but I don't know what that signifies in terms of her career at this point or the love of music. Discipline to me is about sticking to what works. While I was hesitant when she brought an outsider producer into the fold for the "All For You" album (Rockweilder), his addition actually worked in Janet's favor. With "Damita Jo" I remained skeptical only because she geared towards a more R&B/Urban direction, which is hard to believe because Janet has never been an R&B act--strictly Pop with sprinkles of R&B here and there on the album (slow songs in particular). I would really like her to take back control of her career and let go of another relationship that has seeped over into her professional life and caused much damage: Jermaine Dupri. Jermaine's influence and hand in the last two projects has not been good for her musically. He doesn't offer the Midas touch he's been so lucky to bless Mariah with, and I really wish he would stay on the side line and just be her companion rather than producer as they agreed with the "Damita Jo" project.
Below is a list of the only tracks that really matter besides the current 4 singles:
-2Nite
-The 1
-What's Ur Name
-Curtains
and if you have the Japanese Version or iTunes Deluxe Edition
-Let Me Know, which should've replaced any of the other songs not mentioned in my list of picks
Everything else, including the interludes, are nothing but fillers.
Free Music Review: Janet's back!!! Hit: 4 StarsJanet's Discipline is an awesome CD this time around. The last couple have been forgettable. There are great club songs and awesome slow jams. The only thing I wonder about is why aren't any of her songs gettin love on the radio?.
