Free Music Review: For Janis Fans Only....
Hit: 5 Stars

As a #1 Janis fan, I feel the need to own everything she recorded. Although I have all of the recordings on this CD on other Janis CD's, it is a nice compilation and worth having these cuts all in one place.

Free Music Review: Her Best
Hit: 5 Stars

Free Music Review: Thank you, Janis
Hit: 5 Stars

Just goes to show that great artists are always remembered and loved.

You left this world far too soon.

Thanks, Janis.

Amazing- great sound - I own the LP of Pearl and this CD's sound is as good - this is Janis the way she should be heard!

Free Music Review: Pearl
Hit: 4 Stars

First of all I have to come clean and say that Janis Joplin is definetely not one of my favorite artists. I find her singing to be a bit forced and in my opinion she does screech a bit to much and her vocals are uneven. Sometimes they sound great and at other times they sound just downright awfull. However, she writes some amazing lyrics and songs like "Me and Bobby McGee", "Mercerdes Benz" are deemed timeless. It is all with a heavy sense of what could have been if she had not overdosed on heroin prior to the release of this album. To hear her talk with the other studio guys on the demo version of "Me and Bobby McGee" it feels like one is right in the studio with Janis. I love the alternate takes and the instrumental version of "Pearl" is welldone indeed. The second disc is a live album and showcases Janis live from the festival express tour in Canada and listening to Janis live is even better then her studio versions. Indeed it is such a shame that she passed away so early otherwise she might have still (as of today) toured the country and showcased her incredible tallent. It feels like such a shame that she only recorded three albums and her untimely death only allowed her to showcase of what could have been a very long and creative career. Even so this is a great album that should not be missed.
