Free Music Notes for EquinoxeFree Music Review: A must for any electronica fans! Hit: 5 Stars
Along with 'Oxygene,' 'Equinoxe' is by far one of the more accessible & well conceived album of the genre. For anyone interested in music technology & sound design, this is a must.
Jean Michel Jarre demonstrates through this album that technology & artistry are not separate entities but rather inseparable counterparts. His mastery in composition & orchestration is clearly shown in 'Equinoxe' as so many of classic analog synths come together laying out new sonic landscape previously unknown.
Now we take the electronic sounds/instruments for granted. But anyone who has studied the history & development of these instruments & musical genre understands the talent it takes to make it become so accessible and to alter the course of music history altogether. Well, JMJ clearly has done just that with 'Equinoxe' as his musical talent comes through in his melodic writings while his knowledge of technology enabled him to sculpt otherwise rather cold electronic sound to come through in such an organic fashion.
Free Music Review: Greatest Electronic Music CD of all Time! Hit: 5 Stars
Equinoxe, by Jean Michel Jarre, in my opinion is the greatest electronic music CD of all time. Jarre's masterpiece flows from the opening track Equinoxe 1 to the finale Equinoxe 8. It was created in the days before CD's so there is the break for both sides of the original vinyl and cassette recording. Otherwise I am sure Mr. Jarre would have made this one seamless piece of extra-ordinary creative music. And yet the break enables one to get one's breath as Equinoxe 5 begins an everflowing journey of sound and sonics. Once into the music, you cannot escape the voyage to the inner recesses of your mind. I have heard thousands of electronic Cd's in my time, and some have maybe more melodic, more evocative tracks. but none, and I reiterate, none flows from start to finish like Equinoxe. In fact as host and producer of the Nightflight a 2 hour radio show devoted to this genre, Equinoxe, was named the first Nightflight Hall of Fame Award in 1997. Good Listening
Free Music Review: Extraordinary space music Hit: 5 Stars
Though he didn't define the genre of electronic or space music (that awards should probably go to Tangerine Dream), Jean-Michel Jarre clearly took it to the masses. Though "Equinoxe" was his third album (his first one was "Deserted Palace" in 1972, followed by "Oxygene" four years later), for many people it was their introduction to his work and to this type of music altogether. I was one of them: I can clearly remember the first time I listened to it, its surround feel and its ethereal quality, and all it made me feel back then.
Close to thirty years after its release in 1978, the album still holds on strong. I know this may sound cheesy, but if there's any album that makes me feel like a seagull hovering over the coastline, it is this one. More specifically, parts 2, 3 and 4 of the album transport me every single time. I wish you the same joy while listening to "Equinoxe" that I've experienced time and again.
Free Music Review: Truth about Jarres music Hit: 5 Stars
I consider this album to be the best album ever. Yes, I'm a JMJ fan, so of course I say it is the best, but no matter what, it is the best. The first rewiew of this album was written by Felix Matahias. He claims that JMJ was not the person who invented the electronic music. Felix claims that Claus Schulze already had done an electronic album 1976. Yes, and JMJ did his Oxygene 1976 and it was the FIRST album with ONLY electronic musci. Maybe Claus Schulze had drums or anything else non-electronic instrument incorparated in his album? To mention that Oxygene JMJ did as the first electronic album, he had done three other albums before that, "La Cage", "Les Granges Brulees" and "Deserted Palace" wich is only electronic music, and Deserted Palace was created by him in the beginnig of the 70's. So JMJ did not create the electronic instruments, but he created the electronic music.
Free Music Review: A Masterpiece of Symphonic Electronic Realization Hit: 5 Stars
I have followed Mssr. Jarre since 1976 when "Oxygene" was released, (btw, an excellent piece of work as well.) Jarre, in "Equinoxe" (1978), is a "Magnum Opus", and it's hard to believe it is 20 years old!! Jarre creates an aural landscape, or waterscape (if your imagination takes you there) in a 'grand-symphonique' style. I know of no other composer in electronic realization that tastefully utilizes the Theramin and the harmonium with analog synths as he. Argueably one of the best albums EVER created. If you 'suffer' from synaesthesia, or have a vivid imagination, this album will take you to places only your mind can go. If only he would have paid this much attention to detail as in "Oxygene 7-13" in editing and programming it would rank right up with Equinoxe.Equinoxe IS A "MUST HAVE" FOR ANY LIBRARY--PERIOD!
