Free Music Notes for OxygeneFree Music Review: memorable album Hit: 4 StarsIt was nice to hear this album again, years after its original LP release. It still holds up well.
Free Music Review: One of the best of all time Hit: 5 StarsThis 1976 recording is one of the best electronic recordings of all time. Very original and not describable by words, even Jarre has not surpassed this release in the last 30 years. He's still trying!
Free Music Review: Jarre's Breakthrough Hit: 5 StarsThis album was Jarre's breakthrough album. Who doesn't know the tune from Oxygene IV? Nowadays we forget how much effort was put into this album, without the aid of MIDI or computerized samples. Just listen to the wind and bird-sounds - all produced using the white and pink noise from synthesizers. Jarre is one of the pioneers of synth music, and this album definitely proves it.
The album is still a classic and although it is already 30 years old (2006 is the thirtiest anniversary!), it sounds like it was recorded yesterday. The music is a mix of rythmic elements and lush pads, string-like sounds, winds, and alien bleeps and blurps. But most of all, this album is all about melody - melodies you will be unable to forget once you have heard them.
If you like this album, you should definitely check out Oxygence 7-13. On that album, published a few years ago, Jarre revisits the sounds and synths used on the first Oxygene album, but with todays' technologies. You will find that even with the new technologies, the original Oxygene still stands firmly, and will remain so for decades to come.
Free Music Review: Outstanding Hit: 5 StarsI think Jean Michel Jarre was the greatest pioneer of techno/electronica there ever was. All the Kraftwerk albums look crappy because of this album.
Free Music Review: Absolutely Mind Blowing!!!! Hit: 5 StarsAbsolutely Mind Blowing!!!! Total Trance-out! Another world. I usually listen to Pink Floyd and Psychedelic 60s and stuff like that but then I found this Jean Michel Jarre artist and was shocked. Equinoxe is another great album. I think this one is more detailed in spaceyness. Well hope this review helped out.
